If OBS skips videos in a playlist, first check which source you used: OBS’s VLC Video source is designed for playlists, while Media Source handles an individual media file. Check the playlist, VLC installation and shuffle/loop settings, then compare OBS’s local output with the YouTube stream. That comparison helps tell whether the problem is in OBS playback or stream delivery; there is no established India-specific fix.
1. Identify how the videos are set up in OBS
In OBS, a playlist and a collection of individual files are not the same configuration. The OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation, dated January 11, 2022, describes both source types.
- VLC Video: Use this source to load and play a playlist.
- Media Source: Use this for an individual local file. It has its own playback and activation behavior; it is not the VLC playlist source.
- Several Media Sources: If you placed separate files in a scene, check each source’s visibility and activation rather than looking for VLC playlist controls.
Select the source in OBS and inspect its properties to establish which setup you have before changing settings. The exact cause cannot be identified without your OBS log, source properties, playlist, a skipped-file example and YouTube stream-health information.

Confirm VLC is installed and matches OBS
VLC Video depends on VLC being installed. OBS specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is missing or cannot load the playlist, check the installation and architecture before troubleshooting playback.

Check entries and playback order
- Open the VLC Video source’s properties.
- Review the playlist entries and confirm that the files you expect are present, in the intended order, and available at their listed paths.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist if the videos should play in list order. Shuffle randomizes the media list; it can make a sequence look as though items were skipped.
- Set Loop Playlist according to what should happen at the end: enable it to restart the list after the final item, or disable it if the list should not restart.
Shuffle controls ordering; loop controls what happens when the list runs out. One does not substitute for the other.
If you use individual Media Sources
Check whether a source is being hidden or activated as scenes change. OBS documents options for restarting a Media Source when it becomes active and closing its file while inactive. It also notes that a closed file may take a short time to reload after a scene change. This could appear as a brief blank or interruption, but the documentation does not establish it as the cause of playlist skips in a particular setup.

3. Reproduce the problem locally before changing YouTube settings
- Watch the OBS preview while the playlist plays. Note the exact file that fails to play or the point at which playback advances unexpectedly.
- If possible, make a local recording and check whether it contains the same skip.
- Record whether the source became hidden, the scene changed, or the problem occurred at the same point in the media file.
If the preview or recording already shows the skip, focus on the OBS source, playlist entry, local file playback and source visibility. If local playback is correct but the YouTube stream appears wrong, examine YouTube Live stream health and the ingest protocol. This is a practical way to separate two troubleshooting layers, not a diagnosis of your particular stream.

Identify whether the stream is sent using RTMP or HLS before changing encoder settings. YouTube’s HLS setup guide says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments rather than continuously. HLS-specific requirements concern how the encoder delivers media to YouTube; they do not control the VLC Video playlist running inside OBS.

HLS requirements are separate from OBS playlist settings
If you use HLS, compare your encoder’s output with YouTube’s published requirements. The YouTube guide specifies 1–4-second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. Google’s developer guide, Delivering Live YouTube Content via HLS, also describes media-playlist ordering, segment naming and accepted uploads. These are ingest requirements, not settings for the local list of videos in VLC Video.
5. Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| VLC Video is unavailable or will not load the playlist | Confirm VLC is installed and its architecture matches OBS; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. |
| Videos play, but not in the listed order | Inspect the entries and turn off Shuffle Playlist if you want sequential playback. |
| The list stops or restarts unexpectedly at its end | Set Loop Playlist to match whether playback should restart after the final item. |
| A file appears blank or delayed after a scene change | Check whether a Media Source became inactive or was hidden; OBS notes that a closed file may need a short time to reload. |
| The OBS preview or recording also contains the skip | Investigate the local source, playlist entry, file playback and visibility behavior before changing YouTube ingest settings. |
| Local output is correct, but YouTube viewers see a problem | Check YouTube Live stream health and determine whether the ingest protocol is RTMP or HLS. For HLS, verify the protocol-specific requirements separately. |
6. Is there a fix specific to India?
The OBS and YouTube documentation cited here describes source configuration and ingest behavior; it does not establish a country-specific cause or India-specific playlist fix. Diagnose the source and compare local output with the stream before attributing the problem to geography, a network condition or a particular codec. Without your OBS version, operating system, VLC version and architecture, source properties, media details, local test and stream-health evidence, a single root cause cannot be confirmed.
