If OBS does not resume sending after your Indian broadband connection returns, first confirm the internet route is stable, then check whether OBS is streaming, and finally verify that YouTube Live Control Room is receiving the feed and has the event live. These are separate checks: OBS reconnecting does not guarantee that the YouTube event is still live, and a new stream key is not a general fix for an outage.
Recover the stream in three checks
1. Confirm usable internet, not just Wi-Fi
Wait until broadband service is back, then confirm that websites or other online services load reliably. A device showing that it is connected to Wi-Fi only confirms the local wireless link; it does not prove that the route from your home to YouTube’s ingest server is working. If available, briefly compare with another connection, such as mobile data, keeping any data charges in mind.
OBS sends the feed directly to the streaming service rather than through an OBS-operated intermediary server. OBS’s connection guide says intermittent disconnections are often a network-path issue between the computer and the ingest server. Look at OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frame count. If OBS is not streaming, start the encoder again using the existing server and stream key. If it shows that it is connected but dropped frames continue to rise, the connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate.

OBS says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” Treat a network path or bitrate mismatch as the first line of investigation rather than reinstalling OBS. See OBS’s troubleshooting steps and its dropped-frames explanation.
3. Verify the event in YouTube Live Control Room
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the intended stream. Check whether a preview appears, review stream health and any displayed error, and confirm the event status. YouTube’s dashboard reports stream status and specific error messages, while its encoder setup instructions note that scheduled events may require you to wait for the preview and click Go live. The exact state depends on how you created the stream.

Check the existing scheduled event before creating another one. An OBS connection and a live, viewable YouTube event are related but distinct: the encoder can be sending while the event is not yet live. YouTube documents monitoring in Live Control Room stream metrics and encoder setup in its live encoder instructions.

Check the stream key and server only for a configuration problem
A YouTube stream key identifies the feed, and the stream URL and key in OBS must match the intended stream. A broadband outage alone is not a reason to reset credentials. If Live Control Room or OBS reports a key or connection-settings error, open the event’s stream settings in YouTube Studio, compare its server and key with OBS, and reset the key there only if needed. Update OBS after a reset. YouTube explains stream-key settings in its stream settings help and common failures in its live streaming troubleshooting guide.

Stop repeated disconnects by tuning the network and bitrate
Use stable upload capacity, not a best-case speed result
OBS Project’s 2024 guide suggests starting video bitrate at 75% of total upload speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate; its guidance also discusses primary plus backup stream bitrate and that headroom. These are rules of thumb, not guarantees: upload performance must remain stable, and other devices or traffic can reduce the capacity available to OBS. If the stream keeps dropping frames, reduce the bitrate and reassess rather than assuming a brief speed-test peak is sustainable.
For settings context, YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. That encoder setting is not a remedy for a broadband outage. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations also state, “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates and its network guidance for live streaming.

Test the local network before replacing equipment
- Try Ethernet: A wired connection avoids Wi-Fi interference as a variable. If you test with an existing cable and it appears damaged, replacing that cable may be reasonable; it cannot fix an ISP outage.
- Restart the modem and router: Do this if local connectivity remains faulty after service returns. If you are unsure whether hardware is the cause, consult your ISP before replacing it.
- Check software and drivers: VPNs, security software, network-optimization tools, outdated network drivers, and faulty cables can interfere with the route. Temporarily test relevant software settings carefully and restore protections afterward.
- Use OBS network options cautiously: OBS documents Windows-specific network optimizations and TCP pacing settings. Keep Bind to IP at Default unless you have a reason to change it. OBS says you can test IPv4 Only, but return to IPv4/IPv6 default if it makes no difference.
- Use Dynamic Bitrate only as a fallback: It can lower quality to reduce pressure when network conditions worsen; it does not repair the underlying connection fault.
When to contact your ISP
Escalate when connectivity remains unstable across services, the same broadband line repeatedly drops the stream, or OBS continues to lose its route despite a sustainable bitrate and local-network checks. Give the provider the outage time, symptoms, whether other services were affected, and your OBS log. OBS notes that route congestion and ISP-side changes can be beyond the creator’s control. No particular Indian ISP escalation process or nationwide outage frequency is established here.
