If sound disappears when a new song starts, first find out whether the silence is only in your headphones, already present in the encoder, or only in the YouTube player. Then check the song source’s mixer meter and YouTube Studio for stream-health or copyright notices. These checks locate the break without assuming that the song change, a particular device, or Indian music itself caused it.
First locate where the sound disappears
Compare what you hear with what viewers hear. Check the public YouTube player, and, if your encoder makes a local recording or archive, listen to the same transition there. YouTube recommends checking audio directly in the encoder and using a local archive to help identify sound problems (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream).
- You cannot hear the new song, but viewers can: investigate your monitoring path, headphones, or the audio being sent to your own listening output.
- The encoder and local recording are also silent: investigate the song source, mixer, and encoder routing before focusing on YouTube delivery.
- The encoder sounds right, but the YouTube player is silent or interrupted: check Studio’s stream status and notices, then the outbound connection and stream health.
Use the same transition for each comparison. This helps distinguish a monitoring issue from a fault before or after the encoder.
Check the song source in OBS
If you use OBS, watch the mixer meter for the source that should carry the incoming song as the transition happens. OBS explains that when there is no audio input indicator, audio is not reaching that source in OBS. That does not, by itself, establish the cause: audio may not be available yet, or an audio interface may be disconnected (OBS Project: Audio Mixer Technical Details).

- No meter activity: confirm that the new song is actually playing and that the intended source is selected and active. Check any device or application supplying audio, and whether the transition changes scenes or sources. Do not conclude from a quiet meter alone that hardware is disconnected.
- The meter moves: audio is reaching that OBS source. Check whether it is muted, whether its fader is down, and whether filters, output-track selection, or routing prevent it from reaching the stream. OBS’s mixer guide describes its meters and channels (OBS Project: Audio Mixer Guide).
Make one change at a time and replay the transition. A meter that moves at the source is useful evidence, but it does not prove the audio is included in the encoder output.
Inspect encoder output and YouTube delivery
If the encoder or local recording is silent
Keep troubleshooting before the platform handoff. Check that the intended song source is enabled, unmuted, and routed to the stream’s audio output. Listen to the encoder’s output and compare it with the local recording, if available. YouTube recommends checking the stream’s appearance and sound in the encoder and using a local archive to help spot audio problems (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream).

If the encoder sounds right but the public stream does not
Open YouTube Studio and inspect the live control room for stream-health indicators, warnings, interruptions, or rights notices. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking stream health and the internet connection sending the stream. A healthy encoder output alongside poor or missing public playback points toward the delivery stage, but check Studio’s information rather than assuming a network fault.
Check YouTube Studio for music-rights interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies content, it may show a warning and replace the live stream with a placeholder; unresolved content can lead to temporary interruption or termination. Check the live control room and any associated Studio notices for the specific event (YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams).

A rights notice is a different problem from an OBS meter or routing fault. Conversely, silence after a song change does not prove that a copyright match caused it. Verify the track, the relevant permissions and territories, and the notice YouTube actually displayed.
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on providers to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other participants (YouTube: Livestream terms and conditions). If you have permission to use third-party music, YouTube says the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel; a license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Contact the rights owner about the specific channel and track.

Test a song transition before the next stream
- Prepare a representative transition using the same song source and scene or playlist change planned for the event.
- Start a test stream and watch the relevant source meter while the new song begins.
- Listen to the encoder output and confirm the transition in a local recording if available.
- Check the YouTube player and Studio’s stream-health indicators and notices.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream and monitoring stream health during the event (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream; YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
