If a YouTube internet-radio stream is too quiet, first check the YouTube player and your device’s sound controls, then compare the stream with other YouTube videos and another audio app. Those quick comparisons help show whether the low volume is limited to one stream, to YouTube, or to your device’s audio output. Try YouTube’s Stable volume setting if it is available, but it balances loud and quiet parts rather than guaranteeing a louder overall mix.

Diagnose where the low volume is coming from

  1. Check the player and device controls. Make sure the YouTube player is not muted and raise its volume. Then check the browser or app volume, your device’s output volume, and its sound settings. YouTube recommends checking browser and device sound before trying more involved fixes. YouTube’s no-sound troubleshooting covers these basic checks.
  2. Play another YouTube video at the same device volume. If it sounds normal while the radio stream stays quiet, the difference may be in that stream’s level or mix. That comparison narrows the possibilities; it does not confirm the cause. If several YouTube videos are quiet, continue checking YouTube’s playback controls and your device settings.
  3. Play audio in another app or service. If audio is quiet there too, the issue may be in the device’s sound configuration or output path. YouTube advises contacting the device manufacturer when sound problems occur across multiple services. YouTube’s streaming and video troubleshooting also suggests isolating playback across supported devices.
  4. Compare another browser or supported device, if available. If the same stream is quiet only in one browser or on one device, that difference helps isolate playback from the stream itself. Comparisons are clues, not proof of a hardware fault.

Try YouTube’s audio controls

Stable volume

Open the video’s Settings menu and look for Stable volume. If the option appears, toggle it and compare the result. YouTube describes Stable volume as balancing the range between quiet and loud by continuously adjusting levels. It is enabled by default for supported videos, but is not available on every video; YouTube says it is off for YouTube Music and official music videos. Since it balances variation, it may not make a uniformly quiet radio stream louder. YouTube’s volume-control help explains its availability and behavior.

Voice boost

If you are listening on a computer or TV and the video offers Voice boost, you can test it for spoken segments. YouTube says the feature reduces background sounds and highlights vocals to make dialogue easier to hear. It is available only on some videos, and enabling it turns Stable volume off automatically. It is intended for dialogue clarity, not as a general music-volume boost.

If the stream is quiet only on mobile

If an uploaded recording sounds fine on a computer but poor or nearly silent on a mobile device, stereo-to-mono compatibility may be relevant. YouTube explains that mobile playback may convert stereo audio to mono, and a mix with poor mono compatibility can degrade or mute audio. YouTube’s creator guidance says to ensure the mix is in phase. This is a possible content-side issue, not a listener setting that can reliably repair a particular stream. YouTube’s upload-audio troubleshooting describes mono compatibility and phase.

Restart, retest, and report a stream-specific issue

  • Restart the browser or YouTube app, or restart the device, then test again; YouTube includes restarting among its basic sound troubleshooting steps.
  • Replay the same stream and another YouTube video at comparable player and device volume. If possible, repeat in another supported browser or device.
  • If only one stream remains quiet across devices while other content sounds normal, contact the channel or stream owner. The comparisons point toward a stream-specific issue, but do not establish its exact cause.

Network speed can matter for buffering or video playback, but the YouTube guidance cited here does not identify it as a fix for low loudness. If playback is smooth and only the sound level is low, start with the audio controls and comparisons above.
