When a LinkedIn link preview is missing, stale, or incorrect, fix it in this order: verify the URL contains no spaces, make sure the page publishes usable oEmbed or Open Graph metadata, then refresh the URL in LinkedIn Post Inspector. LinkedIn says refreshed data is used for new posts, not posts already published, and its troubleshooting guidance allows up to 48 hours for updated preview information to appear.
Start with the symptom
The correct fix depends on what you see in the composer:

1. Confirm that the URL can be shared
Remove whitespace
LinkedIn says a URL containing spaces cannot be shared. Check the address you pasted for spaces in the domain, path, query string, or a copied line break. The site owner should encode spaces (for example, as a URL-encoded value) or remove them from the address altogether. Do not diagnose metadata until the URL itself is valid.
Check redirects and the final destination
If the address redirects, open it in a private browser window and confirm that it lands on the intended public page. A redirect that ends at the wrong article, a login screen, or an unavailable page can produce a card that appears unrelated to the URL you intended to share. Correct the destination first, then retry the preview.

2. Check the page’s share metadata
What LinkedIn reads
LinkedIn says its share box uses oEmbed and/or Open Graph data to find the most accurate title, description, and image for a URL. If those signals are absent or inaccurate, LinkedIn may display incomplete information or details from another part of the page. This is a source-page problem, not a setting in your personal LinkedIn account.
What the site owner should inspect
- View the public page source or the HTML delivered to an unauthenticated visitor.
- Confirm that the page exposes the intended title, description, and image through its oEmbed and/or Open Graph implementation.
- Check the exact URL variant you share, including its protocol, hostname, path, and query string; metadata can differ between URL variants.
- Publish the changes and make sure the page is reachable without a sign-in wall or an interstitial that replaces the article.
LinkedIn’s help guidance does not prescribe one universal image file format, a specific crawler allow-list, or a single mandatory set of tag values. Avoid treating those details as official LinkedIn requirements unless your own site platform documents them.
When you do not control the website
Send the page owner the exact URL and the fields that are wrong. They must correct the source metadata; changing text in your LinkedIn composer cannot repair metadata for a personal-profile share.

3. Refresh an old or wrong preview with Post Inspector
- Open LinkedIn Post Inspector.
- Enter the complete URL you plan to share.
- Run the inspection and read the title, description, and image that LinkedIn currently finds.
- If the result is still wrong, correct the page’s oEmbed/Open Graph data, publish it, and run the URL through Post Inspector again.
- Create a new LinkedIn post using the URL after the inspector shows the desired information.
Post Inspector is a refresh-and-check workflow, not an editor for the source page. LinkedIn says a refresh changes the preview for new posts using that URL. A post that was already published keeps the preview it received when it was created.

LinkedIn’s URL troubleshooting guidance advises allowing 48 hours after sharing a URL or updating site tags for preview information to refresh. Treat that as a platform timing guideline, not a guarantee that every page changes immediately. During that period, use the inspector result as your diagnostic reference rather than repeatedly editing the same already-published post.
4. Customize a preview when publishing from a LinkedIn Page
The documented editing controls apply to LinkedIn Page posts and require an eligible super admin or content admin. They are not a general control for every personal-profile post.

- Open the LinkedIn Page post composer and paste the URL.
- Wait for the link card to load, then select the edit control on the preview.
- Choose the image you want and edit the article title.
- Review the card and publish the post.
LinkedIn’s Page guidance recommends a 1.91:1 ratio (1200 × 627 pixels). It also says images narrower than 200 pixels display as a small thumbnail instead of the larger preview image. These are recommendations for the Page-preview customization workflow; they do not replace fixing incorrect source metadata.
Why each fix works
URL error versus card-content error
A URL with whitespace is rejected before LinkedIn can build a card, so encoding or removing the whitespace is the remedy. If the URL is accepted but the fields are blank or wrong, investigate the page’s share metadata instead.

Post Inspector helps distinguish an old cached result from metadata that is still wrong at the source. If the inspector shows the old values, wait through LinkedIn’s refresh guidance after correcting the page. If it consistently shows missing or incorrect values, the website’s implementation still needs attention.

New post versus an existing post
A refreshed result is applied when you create a new post. It does not rewrite a card already embedded in a published post, so delete-and-repost decisions should be made with that limitation in mind.

- After a metadata deployment, record the publish time and do not judge the result before the stated 48-hour window has elapsed.
- Use a new test post for verification; editing an old post cannot prove that the refreshed card is working.
- When a Page admin customizes a card, preserve the source-page metadata as well so other platforms and future posts have a reliable default.
