It is an input option, so placing it after -i can keep it from applying to that file. If the option is already in the right place, identify whether the pause is audible, visible, or both, and compare a local loop with YouTube playback. A recurring seam can involve copied packet/keyframe boundaries or audio and video ending at slightly different times; the loop option alone cannot fix those.
Start with the loop option in the right place
FFmpeg options generally apply to the next input or output, so put -stream_loop before the matching -i. For indefinite repetition, use -1:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4 ...For a finite local test, this command plays the input three times total: once initially and twice more. The number after -stream_loop counts additional repeats.
ffmpeg -stream_loop 2 -i input.mp4 -c copy output.mp4Use -stream_loop -1 for an indefinitely repeated input. For a finite render from an indefinitely looping input, add an output stop condition such as -t and choose an appropriate duration.

Find out whether the seam is local or YouTube-specific
- Run a short local loop or create a finite output and inspect the join. Note whether the video freezes or jumps, the audio pauses or clicks, or both happen.
- If the local output has the same seam, investigate the media streams and loop boundary before changing YouTube settings.
- If the local output is clean but the received YouTube stream pauses, compare the FFmpeg logs and stream preview, and check the current YouTube ingest instructions and your network stability. A pause in playback alone does not establish that YouTube caused it.
If the video freezes or jumps at the join
Test whether packet-copy boundaries are involved
With -c copy, FFmpeg passes through the encoded packets rather than decoding and re-encoding them. A problematic join can relate to the source’s keyframe boundary. As a diagnostic, remux a phone MOV into MP4, then loop the remuxed file:
ffmpeg -i input.mov -c copy fixed.mp4
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i fixed.mp4 -c copy output.mp4Remuxing changes the container without re-encoding the media. If the seam remains, compare with a re-encoded local test. If that removes it, packet boundaries or timestamps may be involved; the test is evidence to investigate, not a guaranteed fix for every file.

If the pause is audible
Check audio duration and test audio re-encoding
Check whether the audio track lasts slightly longer than the video. A stream-copy join can expose a small silence at a segment boundary in some files, but that is a possible cause to test, not a universal explanation. For a livestream test, re-encode audio to AAC while keeping compatible video copied, then listen to the boundary again.
-c:v copy -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100Re-encoding uses more processing than copying; compare the resulting local loop with the original before changing live settings.

Example pattern for a YouTube Live RTMP stream
This is a pattern, not a tested command for every file, system, account, or current YouTube ingest configuration. Adapt it to the input’s streams and confirm YouTube’s current requirements before publishing.

The example uses -re to read at real time, loops the input before -i, encodes audio as AAC, and outputs FLV to an RTMP endpoint; it may need changes for your source and ingest setup.

Compare copy and re-encode tests

Common troubleshooting checks
- The file plays once instead of repeating: verify
-stream_loop -1appears before the relevant-i. - The video freezes or jumps at every join: compare copy and re-encoded local tests; for a MOV source, try remuxing to MP4 before looping.
- The sound pauses but the picture looks continuous: inspect whether audio outlasts video and test AAC audio re-encoding.
- Only YouTube playback pauses: compare the local output, FFmpeg logs, and received stream preview; check current official ingest guidance and network stability instead of changing codecs or bitrate blindly.
- The command still fails or the cause is unclear: inspect the exact FFmpeg command and input streams. A useful diagnosis also needs a short sample and a clear note on whether the fault is audible, visible, or both.
