Dropped frames in a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream do not automatically mean BSNL is at fault. First read the stream-health message in YouTube Live Control Room, check the encoder settings, and test whether your connection can sustain the selected bitrate. If it cannot, reduce the stream’s bitrate or output resolution or frame rate, then test again under conditions similar to your live session.
Start with the YouTube stream-health warning
Open YouTube Live Control Room and check the stream-health status and messages while testing. Note the exact symptom: dropped frames, an unstable bitrate, or a configuration warning. YouTube groups warnings around settings such as bitrate, frame rate, codec, and keyframe frequency, so the message can help distinguish an encoder issue from a connection problem. BSNL broadband is the connection in question, but a provider name alone cannot establish the cause. Performance depends on the connection at your location and at the time you stream; measure it before changing plans or buying equipment.
Check the encoder settings for 4K60
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For 4K/2160p at 60 fps, its recommended video bitrates differ by codec:

These figures are YouTube’s encoder video-bitrate recommendations, not a promise that a particular broadband plan or line can sustain the stream. The lower recommended bitrate for AV1 or H.265 is a real trade-off to consider if your encoder supports those codecs; it does not guarantee that your connection will be stable. - Set bitrate encoding to CBR.
- Use a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS protocols and recommends RTMPS.
Check the output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate mode, and keyframe interval in your encoder. If YouTube reports a configuration warning, use that specific warning to identify what to inspect rather than assuming the broadband connection is responsible.

Test upload capacity under realistic conditions
YouTube recommends testing before going live and says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” A short speed test is useful, but it does not prove the connection will remain stable throughout a stream. Test on the same connection you intend to use, ideally at a time and with household upload activity representative of the actual broadcast. Include typical audio and motion when testing the stream: a static image may not reflect the demands of your real content.
- Keep the encoder and stream target unchanged for the first test. Record the selected codec, resolution, frame rate, and video bitrate.
- Run an upload speed test on the streaming connection. Compare the result with the configured video bitrate, while remembering that a brief result does not establish sustained performance.
- Run a private or otherwise non-public test stream, if appropriate for your setup. Use representative audio and motion, and watch YouTube’s stream-health status while it runs.
- If practical, compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet. This can help isolate Wi-Fi as a factor. A cable cannot establish or fix a problem with the broadband line, congestion, or ISP capacity.
- Repeat during representative conditions. If household uploads or the time of day affect your connection, include those conditions in the test.
Lower the target if the connection cannot hold it
If the connection cannot reliably sustain the configured bitrate, reduce the bitrate and retest. You can also try a lower output resolution or frame rate and check stream health again with representative content. Keep the change small enough that you can tell which adjustment helped. There is no verified fallback setting that can be guaranteed for every BSNL connection.

The practical choice is between retaining 4K60 when measured performance supports the selected bitrate and lowering the output target for a more reliable stream. If your encoder supports AV1 or H.265, YouTube’s recommendation is 35 Mbps for 4K60 rather than 50 Mbps for H.264; whichever codec and target you choose still needs to be tested on your own connection.
