First identify whether the audio-video mismatch is steady, grows over time, jumps intermittently, or affects only some viewers. Each pattern points to a different part of the streaming chain; an arbitrary delay is not a universal fix. Compare a local recording with YouTube playback, make measured changes at the affected source, then verify the result in the delivered stream.

Diagnose the type of sync problem

Use a repeatable cue in the stream—such as a visible action paired with a sharp sound—and check it at several points. Note whether the mismatch is present from the start, stays about the same, gets progressively worse, changes suddenly, or is reported only by particular viewers. This is a practical way to characterize the issue, not a formal calibration protocol specified by YouTube or OBS.

  • Steady offset: One source may need a measured timing adjustment.
  • Increasing drift: Investigate capture timing and source behavior before applying a fixed delay.
  • Intermittent jumps: Note whether they coincide with a media reload, loop boundary, restart, or a stream-health warning. These are diagnostic clues, not proof of a cause.
  • Some viewers only: Check playback on another device or network before changing the stream for everyone.

If possible, compare the same period in a local OBS recording and on YouTube. If both are out of sync, focus first on sources, capture, or encoder configuration. If the local file appears correct but YouTube playback does not, inspect Live Control Room health information and the delivery path. This comparison helps localize the problem but cannot prove a single cause.

Fix a steady mismatch in OBS

Identify which source leads

Determine whether the image arrives before its sound or the sound arrives before its image. Delay the source that needs to catch up rather than applying an unexplained adjustment to every source. For example, if a webcam image appears before the paired microphone audio, delaying the webcam image may bring them into alignment.

Use Render Delay for a video source

  1. In OBS, select the relevant video source in the Sources list.
  2. Open the source filters and add the Render Delay filter.
  3. Increase the delay in small, measured steps while checking the same audio-video cue.
  4. Record a local sample or check YouTube playback to confirm that the encoded result is aligned.

OBS describes the filter as one that “Delays the rendering of the Source image.” It is useful when the image needs to wait for its sound; it will not repair a mismatch that keeps growing. If the audio source needs adjustment instead, measure its required change empirically. There is no universal audio offset for every device and media path.

Investigate sync that drifts over time

A fixed delay can correct a constant difference, but not one that increases as the stream runs. Find out whether the problem follows a particular source or appears when using a separate audio device.

  • Check for duplicate audio capture. OBS warns that selecting the same device both in global audio settings and as an Audio Input/Output Capture source can cause echo. Review the OBS Audio Sources documentation and remove unintended duplicate capture paths.
  • On Windows, test device timestamps. In the audio capture source properties, OBS provides a Windows-only “Use Device Timestamps” option. OBS says it attempts to use device timing information to prevent desynchronization. Compare controlled recordings with the option enabled and disabled; neither setting is a guaranteed fix.
  • Check media boundaries. If the stream loops or reloads uploaded music, note whether sync changes at those points. OBS supports local media and looping, but its documentation does not establish that looping necessarily causes drift.

Check OBS and YouTube stream health

Review OBS statistics and YouTube Live Control Room health messages around the time the issue occurs. Correct a specific warning rather than changing settings without evidence.

OBS dropped frames and connection

OBS Project says: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” See its Stream Connection Troubleshooting guidance. If OBS reports dropped frames, possible troubleshooting steps include trying another server, lowering video bitrate to match a reliably available upload rate, checking network software and hardware, and using a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for video bitrate; this is a troubleshooting starting point, not a guaranteed threshold or universal YouTube requirement. A connection problem does not by itself establish the cause of a source-level sync offset.

YouTube encoder-health messages

YouTube’s live streaming error messages can identify problems with format, codec, audio configuration, sample rate, bitrate, or keyframes. YouTube recommends H.264 video and AAC audio for proper ingestion. Its error guidance includes a 44.1 kHz correction for certain sample-rate warnings; separate YouTube Live Streaming API health documentation, last updated 2026-09-14 UTC, lists both 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended audio sample rates. These messages do not mean one rate universally fixes sync.

YouTube’s error guidance also says to send only one audio stream and supports mono or stereo channels. If you use primary and backup ingestion, match relevant settings such as codecs, sample rate, and keyframe frequency. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists a keyframe frequency of four seconds or less as a recommendation intended to avoid buffering when keyframes are too infrequent—not as an audio-sync offset. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into viewer formats, so inspect health information and playback rather than assuming the encoder preview is the final viewer experience. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its broader setup guidance.

Verify the result for viewers

  1. Check the local recording and YouTube playback for the same section, including more than one point in a long-running stream.
  2. If the issue is viewer-specific, ask another viewer to check from a different device or network. Viewer buffering can vary with location, connection, and device even when OBS shows no dropped frames; see OBS’s Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guidance.
  3. For a 24/7 stream, record the tested source settings, when the symptom appeared, and any OBS or YouTube health warnings. Compare those notes after restarts and media-loop boundaries.

YouTube recommends testing before going live with audio and movement representative of the intended stream and monitoring stream health during the event. There is no established universal monitoring duration, Indian network threshold, or delay value for this problem. The right correction must be measured on the actual sources and checked against YouTube playback.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you are moving a prerecorded Indian music stream to an always-on setup, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos without leaving a computer, OBS, or a home connection running. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays the uploaded video; it does not stream from a camera.
