To fix desynced audio in a 24/7 YouTube music stream, first find where the timing error begins: compare the encoder preview, the local recording, and YouTube playback. If the encoder preview and recording are already out of sync, check the routed audio and video sources and encoder errors. If they look correct but YouTube playback does not, investigate stream health and outbound connection. Correct any specific error shown in YouTube Live Control Room, then test the change with representative content before relying on it.
Find where the audio and video first go out of sync
Do not start by changing latency or applying an arbitrary audio offset. First compare the same moment in three places: the encoder preview, a local recording or archive, and playback on YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream in the encoder and inspecting the local archive; if those look healthy, check the outbound connection. YouTube live-stream troubleshooting
- Out of sync in the encoder preview: investigate the source material, source routing, and encoder path.
- Preview looks right, but the local recording is wrong: inspect the encoder’s recording and audio/video configuration.
- Preview and recording look right, but YouTube playback is wrong: check Live Control Room stream health and outbound connectivity. This helps choose a diagnostic branch; it does not prove the root cause.
Compare a recognizable sound or beat with a visible event, such as a musical hit aligned to a change in the video. Check more than one point in the stream: a consistent offset differs from drift that grows over time, and the distinction can help narrow the investigation. Do not assume either pattern has one universal fix.
Check the sources and encoder
Verify the audio and video routes
Confirm that the intended music source and visual source are both reaching the encoder. Check for an unintended audio input, a muted or duplicated source, or a visual source that does not match the music segment. If the problem is in the encoder preview, these checks are more relevant than changing YouTube playback settings.

Review encoder errors and load
Read the encoder’s error messages and check CPU load while the stream is running. YouTube includes encoder errors, CPU load, and the quality of the sources routed into the encoder among its live-stream troubleshooting checks. Update the encoder software if appropriate. If the source and encoder configuration seem sound but the issue persists, comparing with a different encoder can help isolate the cause; it is a diagnostic step, not a reason by itself to buy new equipment. Use YouTube’s stream health errors to guide format changes
Check the Live Dashboard or Live Control Room health indicator and note any error messages and timestamps. YouTube’s error guidance identifies unsupported formats and incorrect audio settings as problems to correct. If YouTube reports an incorrect audio sample-rate configuration, follow the setting specified in the current creator live-stream configuration guidance rather than guessing at another value. Change the setting tied to the reported error, then check the result in the encoder, local recording, and YouTube playback. Avoid changing unrelated settings at the same time: doing so makes it harder to tell which change helped or caused a new problem.
Check outbound bandwidth and stream stability
If the encoder output and local recording appear correct, test the stability of the upload connection and review stream health. YouTube recommends keeping the total stream bitrate below the available upload bandwidth, with 20% headroom above the total bitrate. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee that a particular connection will be stable. Account for the combined bitrate of the stream rather than considering video bitrate alone. - PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Monitor audio and video quality while the stream runs. If symptoms appear only in YouTube playback while the encoder and archive remain sound, connection and stream-health checks are more useful than applying a sync offset without evidence.
Test the stream before relying on it
- Preview before going live. Check that the intended audio and visuals reach the encoder and are aligned.
- Test representative material. Include music and movement similar to the actual stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing with audio and movement similar to what the stream will contain. YouTube encoder settings
- Inspect the local recording. Confirm that it is being created and that its audio and video are usable and aligned.
- Check YouTube stream health and playback. Review any error messages and compare playback against the encoder output.
- Continue monitoring. YouTube recommends monitoring stream audio and video quality. Its guidance does not specify a required test duration for a 24/7 stream.
Should you change YouTube latency?
Usually, latency is not the right control for correcting audio/video drift. YouTube defines latency as the delay between an encoder or camera capturing an event and that event appearing to viewers. Its guidance distinguishes interactive streams from non-interactive ones: normal latency is generally suitable for a 24/7 music stream without live audience interaction. Lower latency reduces read-ahead buffering but can increase viewer buffering; YouTube does not present it as a repair for A/V desynchronization. YouTube live-stream settings

Common symptoms and the next check
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Audio and video are already misaligned in the encoder preview. | Confirm the intended sources and routing, then review encoder errors and CPU load. |
| The preview appears correct but the local recording is not. | Inspect the encoder’s recording and audio/video settings. |
| The preview and recording look correct, but viewers report a problem on YouTube. | Review Live Control Room health and error timestamps, then test outbound connection stability. |
| YouTube reports an unsupported format or incorrect audio configuration. | Correct the specific format or audio setting indicated by YouTube’s guidance. |
| The stream becomes unstable or quality drops. | Check stream health and ensure total stream bitrate stays below available upload bandwidth, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. |
| You are considering a latency change to fix drift. | Choose latency for the interaction and buffering tradeoff; YouTube does not identify it as a sync fix. |
Or let it run in the cloud
