If Cypress CI reports “No spec files found,” first confirm that the job is running the intended Cypress project and configuration, then check whether the intended test files match the active testing type’s specPattern and are not removed by exclusions or filters. Keep the failure when tests should run; use --pass-with-no-tests only when zero specs is an acceptable outcome for that job.
Decide whether zero specs is an error or an expected result
A no-spec result can mean CI is looking in the wrong place or that its configuration excludes the files you meant to run. It can also be intentional—for example, when a workflow’s filters select no tests for a particular run. Decide which case applies before changing the exit behavior. Cypress’s Jennifer Shehane recommends first asking whether a zero-spec result is ever valid in the workflow. Cypress’s CI guidance
- Tests are expected: fix project selection, patterns, exclusions, or filtering. Keep the no-spec failure visible so CI cannot silently skip the intended tests.
- No tests are acceptable for this run: consider
--pass-with-no-tests, understanding that it turns the no-spec case into a successful exit.
Check the CI project directory and configuration
- Inspect the CI step’s working directory and command. Cypress looks for its configuration in the current working directory by default. A local command may work because it runs from the Cypress project directory while CI runs from the repository root, or the reverse.
- Run from the Cypress project directory or target it explicitly. Set the CI step’s working directory to the directory containing the Cypress project, or pass
--projectwith that project directory. For example:npx cypress run --project apps/store. Use the path that is correct for your repository. - Confirm the configuration file and overrides. Check which Cypress config the job actually loads, and review CLI arguments that may override values in it. Cypress CLI configuration values can override config-file values. Cypress CLI reference
Make sure intended files are eligible specs
Cypress does not run every file in the repository. Eligibility depends on the project’s effective configuration, active testing type, file paths, exclusions, and any CLI or runtime filters.
Compare paths and filenames with specPattern
Inspect the effective specPattern for the testing type used by the CI command—E2E or component testing, as applicable. Compare it with the actual spec paths and filenames in the CI checkout. specPattern accepts a glob or an array of globs; a mismatch means a file will not be discovered. Do not assume historical defaults apply to your current project: inspect its config and Cypress version. Cypress changelog

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check excludeSpecPattern
Look for exclusions that remove the candidate files. A broad glob or a path that has changed can exclude more than intended. Adjust the exclusion if it conflicts with specs the job is meant to execute.
Check --spec and test filters
A --spec argument narrows selection, but it does not bypass specPattern: the selected path must also match the configured pattern. Check that its path is relative to the project Cypress is using and that any glob matches files in the CI checkout. Also inspect dynamic test-filtering logic; Cypress notes that filtering can intentionally result in zero selected files. Cypress CLI reference Cypress’s CI guidance

Choose the right no-spec behavior for CI
When the job must run tests
Correct the project directory, active testing type, patterns, exclusions, or filters. Do not add a success flag just to make a broken discovery step green: a successful empty run can conceal skipped tests.
When an empty selection is acceptable
Add --pass-with-no-tests to cypress run only for a workflow where executing no specs is an accepted result, such as a deliberately filtered or quarantined run. Cypress documents that the option exits successfully when no spec files are found. Its February 25, 2026 article says the option starts with Cypress 15.11.0; check the installed version and current CLI documentation before using it. CLI option reference Version context

If Cypress Cloud recording is relevant, note that Cypress says no recording begins when no specs are found before recording starts. A successful process exit does not mean a test run was recorded. Cypress’s CI guidance
Troubleshoot a configuration that looks correct
- Local succeeds, CI finds nothing: compare the CI working directory, exact Cypress command, project path, config selection, and checked-out file paths against the local run.
- A specific
--specpath finds nothing: verify that the path exists in CI and also matches the effectivespecPattern. - Some test jobs are intentionally empty: inspect runtime filters and decide explicitly whether that job’s empty selection should pass; do not apply the flag to jobs that require tests.
- Patterns appear correct but behavior differs by version: check the installed Cypress version and its corresponding documentation and changelog. Cypress has recorded fixes involving filtering and path/glob handling, so version-specific behavior can matter. Cypress changelog

Its cleanup can accept cookie or consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
