Start by identifying which edition of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos you’re playing—the remaster or the classic version—and whether the problem occurs on Windows PC, GOG, Steam, console, or another platform. The available official guidance documents one remaster crash tied to closing the game during an FMV, but it does not establish a universal fix for startup crashes, black screens, or controller failures.

- Edition: remaster or classic.
- Platform and storefront: for example, Windows PC through Steam or GOG, or a console.

Update the remaster before trying more involved fixes
Install the latest game update available for your edition and storefront, then check the current official patch notes. GOG’s patch announcement documents fixes for reported remaster issues, so a problem described in older reports may not match the current version. If the game crashes during an FMV
GOG specifically listed a crash that could occur if the remaster was closed while an FMV was loading or playing, and said a patch fixed it. If your crash matches that timing, update the game and try again without closing it during the FMV. That documented fix does not establish a remedy for every startup crash or black screen. If you see a black screen
A black screen alone does not confirm that the game has crashed. It could reflect a crash, a display or output-mode problem, or a launcher issue; the official sources available do not document a Croc-specific black-screen fix.

- Note whether the screen goes black immediately on launch or only after loading, an FMV, or a display-setting change.
- Check whether the game is still running or responding, if you can tell without repeatedly forcing it to close.
- Install any available update and record the edition, storefront, platform, and point at which the screen goes black.
Avoid deleting saves or editing configuration files based on generic advice: there is no Croc-specific evidence here supporting either action as a black-screen fix. If the problem persists, include its timing and visible behavior when contacting the storefront or game support.

If the controller does not work
The official material available does not give Croc-specific controller troubleshooting steps or identify a required controller model. Try these reversible checks as general diagnostics, not as a confirmed game-specific fix:

- Reconnect the controller and check whether the operating system recognizes it.
- Check the game’s current input settings and see whether it recognizes the controller.
- If available, test another supported input device to determine whether the issue is limited to one controller.
If only controller input fails, report that separately from a crash or display issue. Include your edition, platform, storefront, controller, and whether the controller is recognized outside the game.
For a GOG PC installation that still crashes

When contacting support, state the edition, storefront, Windows version, exact symptom, and when it occurs. Read GOG’s system-report instructions.
ROG Ally frame-rate reports: check current status
GOG’s patch announcement once described severe frame-rate issues on the ASUS ROG Ally as under investigation and not fixed at that time, for PC. That statement records the status when the announcement was published; it does not verify whether the issue remains unresolved today.
