Start by checking the screenshot options passed by the scheduled job: set fullPage: true, remove or review any clip, and make sure the page has rendered the content you need before capturing it. Then compare viewport and headless screen settings, and record the Puppeteer and browser versions used by the worker. These checks distinguish the common configuration and timing causes from version or deployment differences.
1. Check the screenshot options
Puppeteer’s fullPage option is intended to capture the whole page. The API describes it as: “When true, takes a screenshot of the full page.” But review the entire options object rather than assuming that setting overrides other capture settings: clip requests a specific region, and the documented default for captureBeyondViewport depends on whether a clip is supplied. See the ScreenshotOptions API.
const screenshotOptions = {
path: 'page.png',
fullPage: true,
};
await page.screenshot(screenshotOptions);
Search the scheduled code, shared helpers, and configuration for clip. A wrapper may add it even if the call site does not. If you need a full-page capture, remove the crop unless you have a specific reason to restrict the image, then verify the behavior of any explicit captureBeyondViewport value against your installed Puppeteer version.

2. Wait for the page’s content to be ready
Navigation finishing does not guarantee that the page has finished rendering every section. Puppeteer’s screenshot guide shows navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2', but pages can still have lazy-loaded images, client-side rendering, or delayed content. Add a page-specific readiness check for the content that must appear; there is no single wait condition that is correct for every site. See the Puppeteer screenshots guide.

await page.goto(targetUrl, { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' });
// Replace this selector with a reliable signal from the target page.
await page.waitForSelector('[data-page-ready="true"]');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
If the target site has no readiness marker, choose a condition tied to the missing content—for example, waiting for a known final section or an application signal—and verify it in the scheduled environment. A fixed delay may help diagnose a timing issue, but can be either too short or unnecessarily long as page behavior varies.
3. Log viewport and document dimensions
Log the viewport settings and document dimensions immediately before the screenshot. Compare those values with the resulting image dimensions and with a local run using the same configuration. Puppeteer’s page.viewport() reports viewport settings; page.setViewport(null) restores the default viewport. The setViewport API documents the method.

For pages whose layout changes during resizing, Puppeteer’s guide demonstrates resizing content and waiting for the asynchronous resize event. Do not change viewport settings casually in a production job: a different viewport can change responsive layout and therefore the content and dimensions being captured. See Puppeteer’s screenshot examples.

Puppeteer documents an 800×600 screen as the headless default unless a window size is specified. Viewport configuration and headless screen sizing are separate settings to inspect when local and scheduled captures differ. Set the intended dimensions explicitly and compare equivalent runs rather than assuming the worker has the same screen configuration as a developer’s machine. See the Puppeteer headless modes guide.

5. Check the installed Puppeteer and browser versions
Record the Puppeteer package version and browser version from the scheduled worker, then reproduce the job on those versions. The official changelog records screenshot clipping behavior changes in Puppeteer 7.0.0 and a fix in 22.12.1 for viewport reset during full-page screenshots when defaultViewport: null is used. Those historical notes make version comparison worthwhile; they do not establish that upgrading will fix every clipped capture. Consult the Puppeteer changelog and test against the deployed setup.
6. Compare scheduled and local execution
If the same URL and code work locally but clip in the scheduled job, compare the actual runtime and launch configuration, the writable user-data directory, and the time and CPU available to the scheduled process. Puppeteer’s troubleshooting guide discusses writable user-data directories and a Cloud Run background-execution case where CPU allocation affects execution speed. These are deployment checks, not proof that scheduling itself causes clipping.

Troubleshooting by symptom
| What you observe | What to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The image ends at a fixed region or is consistently cropped. | clip in the screenshot options or a wrapper; fullPage and captureBeyondViewport together. |
Remove unintended clipping, explicitly set fullPage: true, and test the full options combination on the deployed version. |
| The top of the page appears, but later sections or images are missing. | Whether those sections or lazy images had rendered before capture. | Wait for a page-specific readiness signal and compare the document dimensions before capture. |
| The scheduled image differs from a local image. | Viewport, headless screen size, browser/Puppeteer versions, launch settings, and scheduled runtime. | Log these values in both environments and reproduce with matched settings. |
| A version change appears to alter clipping. | The exact installed versions and relevant changelog entries. | Test a minimal reproduction on the current deployed version before changing versions in production. |
| The scheduled capture is slow or behaves inconsistently. | Runtime limits, available CPU, and whether the browser profile directory is writable. | Check the deployment’s browser troubleshooting guidance and compare execution conditions with local runs. |
A minimal diagnostic capture
Use a small reproduction that logs the capture settings and page dimensions. Keep the target URL, viewport, readiness condition, and runtime the same when comparing local and scheduled output.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does fullPage: true guarantee every page element will appear?
No. It requests full-page capture, but content that has not rendered before the screenshot cannot be captured, and other screenshot options such as clip still need review.
Should I upgrade Puppeteer to fix a clipped screenshot?
Not without reproducing the issue on the installed version and checking the relevant changelog entry. Version history identifies changes worth testing, not a universal upgrade fix.
