If Call of Duty DMZ crashes, freezes, or disconnects, first check the Call of Duty and platform service status; then troubleshoot the symptom as either a game crash or a network disconnect. Activision’s current troubleshooting guidance is for Warzone broadly, not a guarantee of a DMZ-specific fix. Historical DMZ patch notes document fixes from 2022, but do not establish that those faults are active now or that a lost extraction can be recovered.
Check service status before changing settings
Start with the Call of Duty online services status and the service-status page for your platform. Activision says connection problems can occur while a service is impaired; if there is an alert or the status is not green, wait for service to be restored before changing your router. If no relevant alert appears, move on to local troubleshooting. The status check is a diagnostic, not proof that every DMZ-specific issue will be listed.
If DMZ freezes or crashes
Restart the game and check the console
- Quit and fully close the game, then launch it again. Activision notes that some freezes may also require restarting the console.
- Install available console system updates and make sure the console has room for ventilation.
- On Xbox, Activision also lists clearing the cache and resetting the alternate MAC address among its troubleshooting steps. Use the Xbox-specific instructions in its Warzone crash and freeze guide.
Check PC software and hardware
- Compare your PC with the published Warzone minimum requirements in Activision’s PC system requirements.
- Close background applications while testing. Activision warns that input-remapping programs, overlays, and recording software can interfere with gameplay or startup.
- Update the graphics driver and ensure the PC is well ventilated.
- If crashes persist, submit the official Call of Duty PC Crash Report to provide diagnostic information.
If you keep disconnecting rather than crashing
Test the platform connection and reduce network load
- Run the console’s built-in network test. Activision’s Warzone connection guide provides PlayStation and Xbox paths; on Xbox, the multiplayer connection test can help identify issues associated with lag, disconnects, or other game-network problems.
- Restart your router, then test with other bandwidth-heavy activity—such as streaming or downloads—paused.
- If you are playing over Wi-Fi, try wired Ethernet. Activision says, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A basic Ethernet cable is an optional way to test a wired connection; it is not a guaranteed fix for a crash, game bug, or service outage.
Change router settings one at a time
If basic network checks do not help, Activision’s guide describes UPnP and port forwarding as alternative tests. Try UPnP with port forwarding off; if needed, test port forwarding with UPnP off and a static console IP. Do not enable both approaches at once: test the game after each change so you can tell whether a setting made a difference. Router menus vary by manufacturer, so consult your router documentation for the exact controls.

Activision also describes a router DMZ setting as a temporary, console-only test. If you try it, follow the guide’s instruction to remove the console’s static IP from DMZ when testing is complete. If the connection remains unreliable after these steps, Activision recommends contacting your internet service provider.

What a failed extraction or lost connection means
Infinity Ward’s Season 01 launch notes, dated November 22, 2022, recorded fixes for a DMZ “Failed to Connect to Datacenters” error while extracting and for a crash triggered by parachute deployment. Those are historical fixes, not evidence that either problem is currently active. The notes do not establish that a failed extraction can be recovered, or that a particular network or router setting prevents lost gear.
The Warzone Known Issues page reviewed here is dated September 25, 2026. It describes identified or reported issues that are under investigation or scheduled to be fixed, and directs players to bug reporting and PC crash reporting. Its listed entries do not establish DMZ’s present service status or reconnect and extraction-recovery rules. Check Activision’s Warzone Known Issues page and official DMZ communications for current notices rather than assuming a 2022 issue has returned.

Can you reconnect after a DMZ crash?
The available official material does not establish whether a disconnected DMZ player can reconnect and recover an extraction. Treat that outcome as uncertain; do not rely on a reconnect or recovered gear. If the problem repeats, note the platform, the symptom, and when it occurred, then use Activision’s bug-reporting or PC crash-reporting route as appropriate.
