First check whether the webpage is already blurry in Chrome DevTools before you capture it. If it is, investigate the image assets and responsive-image selection; if it looks sharp but the saved screenshot is soft or undersized, check the viewport, device pixel ratio (DPR), capture scope, and exported pixel dimensions. The right fix depends on where the blur begins—raising DPR cannot restore detail missing from a website’s source image.
Find out where the blur starts
- Open the page in Chrome DevTools and inspect it in the viewport before saving a screenshot.
- If the page itself looks blurry, investigate its image source, rendered size, and responsive-image choice.
- If the page looks sharp but the saved file does not, inspect the capture settings and the image’s pixel dimensions.
- If the original file is sharp but a shared or pasted copy is not, compare the two files. Resizing or compression by another application is a possibility, but the cause depends on that application.
Set the viewport and device pixel ratio
In DevTools Device mode, choose the viewport size you need, then set DPR deliberately. Chrome defines device pixel ratio as “the ratio between physical pixels on the hardware screen and logical (CSS) pixels.” DPR affects how Chrome draws a CSS pixel on a high-density display; a viewport’s CSS dimensions alone do not guarantee the bitmap dimensions you want. Chrome for Developers explains Device mode, viewport simulation, and DPR.
- Open Chrome DevTools and enable Device mode with the device toolbar.
- Choose a device preset or select the Responsive viewport and enter the intended width and height.
- Open More options in the device toolbar and select Add device pixel ratio.
- Choose the DPR that matches your target device if you are reproducing it. If your goal is a denser capture, choose a larger DPR and verify the resulting file dimensions.
There is no universally correct DPR: match the target when fidelity to a particular device matters, and use a higher value only when you need more output pixels. A larger DPR can increase the image’s pixel dimensions, but it cannot sharpen a low-resolution source image.
Choose the screenshot scope you actually need
- Current viewport: In the device toolbar, choose More options > Capture screenshot. This captures the visible viewport.
- Entire page: Choose More options > Capture a full size screenshot. This includes page content outside the current viewport.
Full-size capture changes the framing, not the underlying sharpness of page assets. Use it when you need the whole page, not as a remedy for blur. Chrome documents the DevTools screenshot capture options.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the exported image dimensions
Inspect the PNG’s pixel width and height in an image viewer or the operating system’s file properties. Compare those dimensions with the output you expected from the CSS viewport and DPR. If the file has enough pixels at its original size but looks soft only after you paste, upload, or share it, compare the original with that copy; a downstream resize or compression step may be involved.
Fix blurry imagery on the page itself
If the image looks fuzzy before capture, the screenshot is recording the page as rendered; it cannot recreate detail absent from the source asset. Check whether the browser selected an image variant with enough resolution for the rendered size and DPR. For sites you maintain, provide responsive image versions appropriate to viewport conditions. Vector formats such as SVG can scale to different sizes when suitable for the asset. web.dev’s responsive image guidance discusses serving images for different display needs, and Chrome Lighthouse guidance covers rendered image size and DPR.

When screenshots are captured through automation
If a script or automation tool is involved, check whether it overrides device metrics or rescales the screenshot. The Chrome DevTools Protocol Page domain includes device metrics such as deviceScaleFactor and a screenshot scale control. Compare those settings with the intended CSS viewport, then inspect the saved file’s pixel dimensions. The DevTools Protocol Page domain documentation describes these controls.
Verify real-device fidelity when it matters
Chrome’s Device mode simulates mobile conditions from desktop Chrome; it is not execution on the actual phone hardware. If the screenshot must match a particular device, check it on that device as well. Chrome’s Device mode documentation explains the limits of emulation.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The page looks sharp, but the saved file is small or soft | Viewport, DPR, or automation scaling | Set the intended viewport and DPR, then inspect the exported pixel dimensions. |
| Images are fuzzy in the DevTools viewport before capture | Source asset or responsive-image selection | Inspect the selected image and whether it has sufficient resolution for its rendered size and DPR; consider a suitable responsive variant or SVG. |
| The original screenshot is sharp but a shared copy is soft | Possible resizing or compression after capture | Compare the original file with the copy. The cause depends on the sharing or document application. |
| You need content beyond the visible screen | Capture scope | Use More options > Capture a full size screenshot. |
| The result must match a real phone | Limits of desktop emulation | Validate on the actual device. |
