If your Samsung Galaxy photos look blurry, first clean and uncover every camera lens, then test with a still subject in good light. The pattern matters: blur only at close range, on one zoom level, or only with a moving subject points to different causes than blur across every camera. Work through the checks below before assuming the camera needs repair.
Start by identifying when the blur happens
Take a few test photos and note whether the problem appears in every shot or only in a particular situation. Check whether it affects one lens or all of them, close subjects or distant ones, and moving subjects or stationary ones. Also compare the camera preview with the saved photo, and consider whether the problem began after fitting a case or lens protector, installing an app, or updating the phone.
- Blur around a close subject: the camera may be too near to focus reliably.
- Blur on moving subjects or across the whole frame: movement during exposure may be the cause.
- Blur on one zoom level or camera: check lens choice, distance, and anything covering that lens.
- Haze, glare, flicker, or dark bands: these can have causes other than autofocus.
Clean and uncover every camera lens
Power off the phone if convenient. Gently wipe each rear camera lens with a soft, dry microfiber cloth; fingerprints, dust, and smudges can soften an image. Samsung warns that a dirty or smudged lens can spoil a photo. Avoid water, cleaning solutions, rough fabrics, and abrasive cleaners.
Check whether the case, a camera ring, or a lens protector overlaps a lens or its edge. Temporarily remove a lens protector and take a comparable photo. Covers and protectors can interfere with focusing or distort light, so testing without them helps isolate the cause.

Reduce blur from movement and difficult lighting
Photograph a stationary subject in good, even light. Hold the phone steady, brace your arms if needed, and ask a moving subject to pause for the test. Camera shake and subject movement can both blur a photo. A camera can also struggle to focus or expose correctly in some lighting; change the angle or lighting before concluding that the camera is faulty.
Check subject distance and the selected camera
Move back from very close subjects
If a close-up is soft, move the phone farther away and try again. Samsung’s U.S. support guidance gives these general distances: the standard lens works best at least 12 inches from the subject, the telephoto lens needs at least 20 inches, and the ultra-wide lens at least 4 inches. These are guidance from Samsung, not universal specifications for every Galaxy model or camera mode.

If your camera shows a flower icon, tap it to turn on Focus enhancer for a close subject. On supported devices, this feature can switch to the ultra-wide camera to reduce close-range blur.

Use high zoom for subjects that are far away
A telephoto camera has its own focus-distance limit, so high zoom may not work well on a nearby object. Samsung gives model-specific minimum focusing distances for the 5x telephoto camera: 30 cm on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and 80 cm on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. These figures apply to those named models, not to every Galaxy phone.

Reset Camera settings and check for updates
- Reset camera settings: open the Camera app, open Camera settings, select Reset settings, and confirm. On the Galaxy S25 and devices using One UI 7.0 or later, Samsung says the route may differ: open Quick settings within Camera before opening Settings.
- Check for a Camera app update: in Camera settings, open About Camera and check for an update.
- Check for a phone software update: open the phone’s Settings and look under Software update.
- Clear the Camera app cache: Samsung includes this among its camera troubleshooting steps. Menu labels and routes can vary by device and software version.
Use Safe Mode to check for app interference
Restart the phone in Safe Mode and test the camera. Safe Mode disables downloaded apps. If photos are sharp there but blurry during a normal restart, a downloaded app is a likely cause. Remove recently installed apps one at a time, retesting the camera after each removal. The Safe Mode entry method and menu wording vary by Galaxy model and software release.

Soft areas in 200 MP photos
Samsung notes that focus range in 200 MP photos can vary with aperture, distance, and subject position. Some parts of a photo may therefore look soft even when autofocus is working normally.

Dark horizontal lines or flicker indoors
Indoor lighting frequency can produce flicker or dark bands. For this particular symptom, Samsung’s U.S. guidance suggests Pro mode with a shutter speed of 1/120 second or lower. Pro mode availability and controls vary by model.

Lens flare may be more visible at night, around bright light sources, with a dirty lens, or at high zoom. Clean the lens and, where practical, change the shooting angle or avoid pointing toward strong lights.
Foggy or hazy camera
A temperature difference can cause temporary internal condensation. Samsung recommends waiting for it to clear naturally. Do not open or heat the phone.
When to contact Samsung support
If the camera remains blurry across different subjects, distances, and camera modes after a restart and settings reset, contact Samsung support or arrange service. A blurry photo alone cannot establish that a camera module has failed; a service diagnosis is needed. A factory data reset is a later software troubleshooting option, not an early fix: it erases data, so back up the phone first.
