If your Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max photos look blurry or the camera keeps hunting for focus, start by checking for an obstruction or smudge, then test in brighter light while holding the phone steady. For close-ups, tap the subject and move back slightly if focus will not lock. If those checks fail, restore Camera defaults; visible lens damage or persistent focus trouble warrants Huawei authorized service.
Why are my Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max photos blurry?
Blur can come from a dirty or blocked camera area, dim lighting, movement, or trying to focus too close to a subject. Huawei’s official Mate 90 Pro Max specifications list rear-camera autofocus and a super macro function, but do not state a minimum focusing distance. Those features do not establish that a particular blurry shot means the camera is defective.
The available Huawei troubleshooting guidance describes general Huawei smartphone behavior, not a Mate 90 Pro Max-specific repair procedure. Use the checks below to narrow down common causes safely.
How do I fix the camera not focusing on my Mate 90 Pro Max?
-
Check for a smudge or obstruction
Inspect the camera glass and nearby sensor and flash area for fingerprints, dust, a lens film, or anything else covering the camera area. Huawei advises keeping the lens, laser sensor, and flash unobstructed and clean. Gently wipe the external camera glass with a clean, soft cloth, then take another photo. Cleaning can remove an external smudge; it cannot repair an internal autofocus fault.

Test in better light and let autofocus settle
Take a test photo in a well-lit scene. Huawei recommends sufficient ambient light, or flash where suitable, and advises waiting until the focus frame disappears before taking the picture. Hold the phone steady while it focuses. Huawei does not specify a Mate 90 Pro Max focus time, so there is no model-specific number of seconds to wait.
-
Stabilize the phone and adjust close-up distance
Small movements are more noticeable at close range, where focus accuracy can also decrease. Huawei Support Global notes: “When taking photos at close range, the focus accuracy of your phone camera may decrease.” Tap the subject on screen to focus. If the frame continues to hunt or the subject stays soft, move the phone slightly farther away and try again.

Huawei’s close-range support article includes distance guidance for certain older named phone models. Those figures are not Mate 90 Pro Max specifications and should not be used as a required distance for this phone.
-
Restore Camera defaults
If cleaning, better light, steadier handling, and a modestly greater close-up distance do not help, look for the Camera app’s restore-defaults option, if available in your current software. Huawei says restoring Camera settings resets them to default without deleting user data. The exact menu path can vary with software and region, so use the option shown on your device rather than relying on an assumed path.

Does blur affect one camera view or every view?
As you test, note whether the problem appears only in close-ups, only in dim scenes, or only with a particular camera view. Also note whether you can reproduce it after cleaning the external glass and trying a well-lit, steady shot. This information can help explain the fault if you contact service. Huawei’s general support guidance does not provide a Mate 90 Pro Max-specific procedure for isolating individual cameras.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When should I contact Huawei service?
Stop troubleshooting settings and arrange an inspection if the camera glass is visibly scratched or cracked, or if focus remains faulty after the checks above. Huawei advises contacting a Huawei Customer Service Center for damaged camera glass. For persistent problems, back up your data and take the phone and proof of purchase to an authorized service center.
