To fix audio popping between videos in a 4K 60fps YouTube Live playlist, first find where the pop enters the chain: play the original files, record or monitor the playlist locally, then check the delivered live stream. If the files are clean but the playlist or stream pops at transitions, test the boundary and playlist source before changing encoder settings. YouTube’s 4K/60 recommendations are useful for checking stream health, but they do not establish that 4K causes audio pops.

Find where the pop starts

Compare the same material at three points: the individual source files, the playlist’s local output, and a recording or playback of the YouTube stream. This isolates whether the artifact is in a file, introduced when the playlist switches items, or present only in the delivered stream.

  1. Play each source file directly. Listen closely to its ending and to the beginning of the next file. Note whether the pop is already audible in either source.
  2. Capture the playlist locally, if your setup allows it. Listen to the same transitions before sending them to YouTube.
  3. Test the delivered stream. Use a private or unlisted test where appropriate, and listen to its playback or archive. A clean local preview does not prove that the outgoing stream is clean.

Record whether the problem happens at every boundary, only between particular files, or only in the live result. Also note whether it coincides with stream-health warnings, dropped frames, or a change in the next item’s properties.

Inspect the transition itself

Test the boundary before changing unrelated settings. In an audio editor, zoom in on the final samples of one item and the first samples of the next. Look for an abrupt waveform cut, a discontinuity, or a silence gap that matches what you hear.

  1. Make a duplicate of the playlist or the affected files so the originals remain unchanged.
  2. Add a short fade-out and fade-in, or a brief crossfade, around the problem boundary.
  3. Play or stream the test version and compare it with the original transition.

If the fade masks the pop, the transition or timing deserves closer inspection. It is a diagnostic experiment, not proof of the underlying cause or a universal fix. If the source files themselves pop, repair or replace the affected audio rather than expecting encoder settings to remove an existing artifact.

Check playlist and source changes

Repeat the same transition several times and note whether it is consistently the same pair of files. Compare the items’ resolution, frame rate, audio channel layout, and codec. A pop at only one boundary points toward that pair or the way the playlist handles the change; a pop at every boundary suggests checking shared transition and audio-pipeline behavior. These are diagnostic clues, not established causes.

If you use OBS with a VLC playlist source, record your OBS version and playlist-source configuration, then observe what changes at each item boundary. OBS Studio 29 release notes mention a crash fix involving a video source that frequently changed resolution, with a VLC playlist as an example. That note concerns crashes, not audio popping, so it supports checking the version and source behavior but does not establish an audio fix: OBS Studio 29 release notes.

Verify audio format and encoder settings

Check that the stream uses a supported audio codec and a stable audio configuration. YouTube’s current Live encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs and recommends these audio settings: YouTube Live encoder settings.

Audio configuration YouTube guidance
Stereo 44.1 kHz sample rate; 128 kbps audio bitrate
5.1 audio 48 kHz sample rate; 384 kbps audio bitrate

If sources use different sample rates, channel layouts, or codecs, test whether your player or encoder handles the changes consistently. The guidance does not identify any one mismatch as the cause of this particular symptom; change one variable at a time and compare results.

Check 4K/60 video settings separately

Use the video recommendations as a separate stream-health check, not as a diagnosis for an audio pop. YouTube’s current Live encoder settings page specifies the following for 2160p at 60 fps: YouTube Live encoder settings.

Setting YouTube guidance for 2160p at 60 fps
Video bitrate 10–40 Mbps; 35 Mbps recommended
Bitrate control CBR recommended
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds

These recommendations help you verify the video stream configuration. They are not evidence that 4K resolution, frame rate, or bitrate causes audio popping at playlist boundaries.

Run a controlled live test

  1. Choose a representative section with the same kind of audio and motion as the intended stream. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health.
  2. Use a private or unlisted test stream if that suits your channel and workflow.
  3. Listen to the local playlist output and the delivered YouTube playback or archive, and note exactly where the pop occurs.
  4. Change one factor at a time: transition behavior first, then audio-format consistency, then playlist-source or software configuration.
  5. Write down the setting changed and the result. Avoid changing bitrate, codec, player, and media together, since that obscures which change mattered.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • The pop is audible in an original file: inspect or repair that file’s audio, especially its start or end. Re-test the repaired file directly before placing it back in the playlist.
  • The files sound clean, but the local playlist pops: inspect the boundary, test a fade or crossfade in a duplicate, and observe how the playlist source changes between those items.
  • The local playlist is clean, but the live result pops: test the outgoing stream and archive, then check supported codec, sample rate, channel layout, and stream health. Change one setting per test.
  • Only one pair of videos causes the pop: compare that pair’s boundaries and media properties with transitions that play cleanly.
  • The pop appears with stream-health problems or dropped frames: investigate the stream’s health and encoder configuration as well as the audio path; do not assume that the video setting alone explains the sound.
  • The pop remains after a fade test: restore the original transition and continue isolating the source, playlist, and delivery path. A fade is not a guaranteed cure.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. It will not identify or repair a pop already present in your files, so check the audio and transitions before uploading. To start, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
