First, compare the same passage in the original video and a private YouTube test stream. If the file is already out of sync, fix or replace it before adjusting the streaming setup. If local playback is aligned but the test stream is not, investigate the playback and encoder path, OBS performance, connection stability, and audio settings—one change at a time.
Find out where the sync problem starts
Use the exact video you plan to stream. Choose an easy-to-recognize cue, such as a spoken word, music beat, or visible action that should coincide with a sound. Compare the cue in local playback with its appearance in a private test stream.
- Play the video locally and check a passage near the beginning.
- Check another passage later in the file. Note whether the same mismatch remains or whether the gap appears to grow.
- Run a private YouTube test with the same video, playback method, encoder, and scene you intend to use.
- Compare the same early and later cues in the test stream with local playback.
A mismatch already present in the file points to the source, not the live encoder. Correct or replace the file first. If local playback is aligned but the streamed version is not, continue by checking the stream setup. A steady offset and a gap that grows over time are useful observations, but neither pattern alone proves a particular cause.

Check the encoder and audio configuration
Compare the settings in your streaming workflow with YouTube’s published encoder recommendations. These are configuration checks, not a guaranteed fix for every sync issue.
- Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS for live encoder ingest.
- Audio format and sample rate: For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its recommended sample rate is 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Available upload capacity: Test stream quality against the available upload connection and check YouTube’s stream-health information.
Make a copy of the working OBS profile before experimenting. Change one relevant setting at a time, repeat the same private test, and keep a change only if the result improves. A large sync-offset adjustment based on a single impression can make matters worse; judge it against the same audible and visible cue.

Distinguish sync from performance or connection trouble
Check OBS rendering and encoding indicators
If the source plays correctly but the stream does not, check OBS’s performance indicators and official encoding-performance troubleshooting guidance. OBS notes that rendering and encoding can be affected by system resource pressure, including GPU load, and suggests reducing workload where needed. A demanding scene or source may help reproduce the problem, but do not assume overload is the cause without evidence in the actual indicators or logs.

Check dropped frames and stream health separately
OBS describes dropped frames as a symptom of an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Dropped frames are not, by themselves, proof that audio and picture are out of sync. If they occur, investigate connection stability and YouTube’s stream-health messages while checking sync as a separate issue. YouTube’s Live Streaming API health-status documentation describes delivery and configuration issues, including insufficient video being received for smooth streaming.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Do not confuse latency with lip sync
YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because HLS sends video in segments. That describes how long delivery takes; it does not establish that HLS creates a relative audio/video offset within the program. See YouTube’s encoder guidance for protocol details.
Verify the fix before going public
- Play the exact source locally and confirm whether the chosen cues line up.
- Run a private test using that same file and streaming setup; compare one passage near the start with one later on.
- If the file is misaligned, correct or replace it. If only the streamed result differs, inspect playback, encoder, and relevant audio configuration.
- Compare OBS performance and connection indicators with YouTube stream health. Treat overload or dropped frames as evidence for those troubleshooting branches, not automatic proof of a sync cause.
- Change only one relevant setting, then repeat the same comparison. Keep a change only if it improves alignment.
- Run a new private test and confirm both the beginning and a later passage remain aligned before broadcasting publicly.
The official guidance does not establish a universal OBS sync-offset value or one correction for every pre-recorded-video workflow. The appropriate fix depends on where the mismatch is introduced—such as in the file, playback path, audio setup, encoder, or delivery path.
