First, record a short local test in OBS with the same game, scenes, audio devices, and capture path as the affected stream. Compare it with the YouTube livestream or VOD at the same moment, using a clear cue such as a clap or an on-screen action with a sharp sound. If the local recording is also out of sync, investigate your OBS sources and signal chain; if only YouTube playback or the archive is affected, document that difference before changing your production settings.

Find where the sync problem starts

OBS preview, a local recording, live playback, and the archived VOD are different points in the path from your devices to the viewer. A preview that looks right does not by itself prove the local output is synchronized, and a mismatch in a YouTube player does not by itself prove YouTube caused it.

  1. In OBS, start a short local recording with the same scene, game capture, microphone, capture hardware, and audio routing used for the stream.
  2. Include a recognizable synchronization cue—for example, clap once in view of the camera, or trigger a visible game action with a sharp sound.
  3. Compare that local file with the affected live playback or VOD at the same cue. If possible, use an editor or player that lets you inspect the video and audio tracks separately.
  4. Note whether the issue occurs in the local recording, live playback, the archived VOD, or more than one of them. Save the affected segment and an OBS log for troubleshooting.

Also record your OBS version, operating system, audio sample rate, capture hardware, source routing, and any monitoring setup. Those details help narrow down which part of the chain to test.

Identify the kind of mismatch

Audio is consistently early or late

If the gap stays roughly the same from the beginning to the end, treat it as a fixed offset. Measure the displacement in a test recording or editor, then adjust only the implicated source. OBS provides a Sync Offset control for audio sources in Advanced Audio Properties; video sources can also have delay controls in their filters. OBS forum guidance recommends measuring the problem in a recording and testing the corresponding delay adjustment rather than guessing.

Audio starts close to sync but drifts over time

A fixed delay will align one point but will not correct a gap that grows. Check timing and configuration along the chain: the capture device, USB audio interface, mixer, virtual audio device, sample-rate settings, and OBS monitoring route. A monitoring-device clock or buffer issue is one possible explanation raised in a specific OBS forum case, not a universal diagnosis. Test the monitoring path rather than assuming it is the cause.

Sync jumps, or OBS reports connection trouble

Check OBS logs and network indicators if the problem is intermittent or accompanied by dropped frames or disconnections. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Its connection remedies, including lowering bitrate when appropriate, address connection symptoms; they are not established as direct audio-sync fixes. Do not change bitrate solely because audio and video are out of sync.

Only one source is displaced

Check the routing and delay for that specific source—such as the microphone, game audio, or capture-card feed. Shifting every audio source can make correctly synchronized sources wrong.

Adjust OBS one change at a time

  1. Use the local recording comparison to identify the affected source and whether it is early or late.
  2. Open OBS’s Advanced Audio Properties and adjust the Sync Offset for the implicated audio source if the mismatch is a stable audio offset. For a delayed video source, inspect that source’s filters for a video delay control.
  3. Make a short new recording and compare the same cue. Change one setting at a time and note the adjustment and direction—for example, “microphone is 120 ms early relative to camera.”
  4. For a longer test, compare both the beginning and end. If the gap grows, return to investigating clocks, devices, sample rates, monitoring, and source routing instead of adding a larger fixed offset.

OBS community advice also recommends monitoring directly from OBS rather than using the YouTube player as the only reference, and checking each link between the original audio/video sources and OBS. These are troubleshooting suggestions from the OBS forum, not formal YouTube guidance.

If the local recording is synced but the YouTube VOD is not

Keep the local file and the affected VOD segment, note the timestamp and the device or player where you observed the mismatch, and compare playback on another device or player when possible. If local output remains synchronized while only YouTube playback or the archive differs, avoid applying a global OBS delay that would damage the local output or future streams.

YouTube’s official upload troubleshooting guidance says audio and video tracks should have the same duration; unequal track lengths may prevent them from syncing correctly, and YouTube recommends editing the tracks before uploading. This advice concerns uploaded videos. It does not explain every livestream VOD discrepancy, and the available guidance does not establish a single YouTube-side cause or a guaranteed post-stream repair for a VOD-only mismatch.

When network settings are—and are not—the lead

OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide focuses on dropped frames and unstable connections. Follow its bitrate and network guidance when those symptoms are present. A forum anecdote that changing bitrate coincided with sync returning was questioned by an OBS responder; it is not a sound basis for treating bitrate changes as a general sync repair.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Local recording and VOD are both out of sync: isolate the affected source, classify the mismatch as fixed or progressive, and test the relevant delay or signal-chain component.
  • Only OBS preview looks right: verify a local recording before drawing conclusions about the stream output.
  • Gap increases through the clip: investigate device timing, sample rates, virtual routing, capture hardware, and monitoring; a fixed offset cannot remove progressive drift.
  • Only microphone, game audio, or capture-card audio is wrong: check that source’s routing and delay rather than shifting all audio.
  • VOD alone appears wrong: preserve the segment, compare another player or device, and avoid assuming a YouTube processing fault without more evidence.
  • Dropped frames or disconnections accompany the issue: inspect OBS logs and network stability; treat network remedies as relevant to those symptoms, not as proven sync fixes.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is for keeping uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, not for diagnosing a gaming capture chain or going live from a camera.
