First find out whether the audio is consistently early or late, gradually drifts out of sync, or only sounds wrong in YouTube playback. For a stable offset, measure the difference and adjust the affected source in OBS. If the gap grows over time, investigate clocks, timestamps, source stability, and encoding before applying a fixed offset. A stream can also have high latency—reaching viewers late—while its audio and video remain synchronized.
Measure the problem in the finished stream
Do not rely on the OBS preview alone. Compare a local recording with playback from the platform: this helps show whether the mismatch is already present in the output or appears somewhere in the delivery path. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Make a local recording and, if available, a private or unlisted platform test. Use a repeatable cue, such as a visible hand clap paired with its sound, or a planned visual marker paired with a distinct audio cue.
- Check the cue near the beginning and again later in a representative run. Note whether the gap stays the same or grows.
- Record the platform, encoder/software version, audio sample rate and channel format, audio route, video source, and when the problem occurs.
- Compare local and platform playback, and check the platform’s stream-health information.
A forum report describes OBS preview that appeared synchronized while YouTube playback differed. That is a useful reason to compare outputs, not evidence that YouTube is the cause in every setup. OBS forum discussion.
Classify the symptom before changing settings
- The offset is about the same at both checks: This points toward a stable timing difference. Measure it, then correct the relevant source.
- The stream starts aligned but separates over time: Suspect a timing-stability problem, such as differing source and encoder clocks, inconsistent sample-rate configuration, reconnects, or encoder behavior. A static offset may not correct a changing gap.
- The local recording is aligned but platform playback is not: Check the encoded and delivered path, stream health, and a repeat test with the same cue.
- Picture and sound arrive late together: That is stream latency, not an audio/video sync mismatch. Latency is how long the live package takes to reach a viewer; sync is whether picture and sound match each other.
Correct a stable offset in OBS
Adjust the source that is actually misaligned, not whichever audio control is easiest to find. OBS documents audio source Sync Offset and a Render Delay video filter for delaying video sources. OBS: Audio/Video Timing and Synchronization.

- Open Edit > Advanced Audio Properties in OBS and locate the audio source feeding the stream.
- Set that source’s Sync Offset based on the measured mismatch. A positive value delays audio; a negative value moves it forward.
- If the correction would require moving audio forward and the relevant source or workflow cannot do that as needed, consider delaying the matching video source with a Render Delay filter. Confirm the result in the output, not just the preview.
- Change one setting at a time, keep the previous value, and repeat the same cue test. If an obvious test adjustment has no effect, confirm that the source you changed is the one reaching the stream.
Do not copy a generic millisecond value. Kick Help Center gives 100–400 ms as a typical range in its own OBS guidance, but that is platform-specific context, not a universal target for YouTube or a kirtan stream. Kick Help Center: How to fix audio delay.
If the audio drifts, investigate the timing chain
A growing gap calls for diagnosis rather than repeated static tweaks. Check whether audio and video use different clocks or timing paths, whether sample-rate settings are consistent, and whether the mismatch changes after a source reconnect or encoder issue. Compare local output with delivered playback and review platform stream-health information.

- Look for changes tied to reconnects, source interruptions, or encoder instability.
- Test with the same cue after making one configuration change, so you can tell whether it affected the drift.
A third-party guide suggests FFmpeg audio-sync correction for a radio source whose clock differs from the encoder. That may be relevant to an FFmpeg-based setup, but it is not an OBS fix to paste in blindly; validate any option against the installed FFmpeg version and the actual source behavior. Check the platform’s audio format requirements
For YouTube Live, the encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo audio and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Use the format appropriate to the stream; do not change sample rate or channel configuration based on advice for another platform. - PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Kick’s help article, by contrast, specifies stereo and a maximum sample rate of 48 kHz for Kick. Those requirements and its offset guidance are not YouTube specifications. Kick Help Center: How to fix audio delay.
Check hardware and routing only after isolating the fault
If the mismatch follows a separate audio interface, mixer, capture card, or duplicated audio route, test that path independently. For example, an OBS forum discussion describes a Tascam Mixcast 4 and ATEM Mini Pro setup; a separate guide describes delays through audio-interface and video-capture paths. These are examples of possible diagnosis paths, not evidence that either device is generally defective or that new hardware is required. OBS forum discussion and Castr: How to live stream 24/7.

Common problems and fixes
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Audio is early or late by a consistent amount | Compare the same cue at the start and later in the stream. | Measure the offset and adjust the affected OBS audio source; retest. |
| The gap grows during a long run | Check source clocks, sample-rate configuration, reconnects, and encoder stability. | Address the unstable timing path; do not assume a fixed offset will solve drift. |
| OBS preview looks right but platform playback does not | Compare a local recording with platform playback and review stream health. | Repeat a platform test with the same visible and audible cue. |
| A sync change makes no difference | Confirm that the adjusted source is actually sent to the stream. | Trace the active audio route before changing more settings. |
| Both picture and sound seem late | Check whether they are delayed together rather than mismatched. | Treat this as latency, not an A/V sync correction. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the issue is part of running an always-on YouTube stream from a computer at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for uploaded videos and playlists. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo, then start your free day.
Keep the stream’s content rights in view
Audio synchronization is separate from whether you have the right to stream the kirtan recording. Before using a recording, check the relevant rights and platform rules; YouTube’s guidance also recommends testing the actual audio and movement planned for the stream. Use this copyright safety checklist as a practical pre-stream check.
