First find where the audio and video stop matching: compare the encoder preview, a local recording made with your normal setup, and the YouTube stream. If the local recording is also out of sync, investigate sources and the encoder’s audio offset. If it is synchronized but YouTube playback is not, check stream health, encoder performance, and the outbound connection before changing the offset. The same troubleshooting applies to Indian music streams as to other YouTube streams; the sources do not identify a special India- or music-specific cause.
Diagnose where the desync begins
Test with your usual video and audio sources, routing, and encoder settings active. Compare what you hear and see in the encoder preview, a local recording, and YouTube playback. A local recording that is already out of sync points toward source selection or encoder setup; a synchronized recording with a desynchronized live stream shifts attention toward live encoding, network, or delivery. This split is useful but not conclusive: more than one fault can occur at once.
- Check that the encoder preview shows the intended video and audio sources and that their timing matches.
- Make a short local recording with the same sources, routing, and settings used for the live stream.
- Watch the recording and the YouTube playback, noting whether audio leads or lags, whether the offset stays constant or drifts, and when the problem appears.
- Ask whether the issue affects one viewer or several on different connections. YouTube says a report from one viewer is more likely to point to that viewer’s device or connection; reports from several viewers may point to the encoder.
YouTube recommends checking the encoder output, routed audio and video sources, CPU load, and local archive as part of troubleshooting. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide.
If the local recording is out of sync
Verify sources, then adjust the offset in small tests
Confirm that the encoder is using the intended audio input and video source. Then find the audio sync offset in your encoder’s mixer or advanced audio properties. Make a short local recording after each change so you can tell whether the result improved.

Test the direction rather than assuming audio should always be delayed. Restream’s sync guide gives +200 ms and -200 ms as example test values, not universal settings; the right value depends on which signal leads and how your software interprets the offset. Record the measured change and retest if you alter routing or devices. Exact menu labels vary by encoder and software version; the sources reviewed do not establish a dedicated official OBS menu path for this setting. Restream’s guide to encoder audio/video sync is dated July 15, 2024.
If the recording is synchronized but YouTube is not
Check encoder performance and the connection
Look at CPU load, encoder warnings, dropped frames, and outbound connection stability. YouTube recommends testing the outbound connection and contacting your ISP if it is problematic. OBS explains that dropped frames can occur when a connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate, and recommends a wired connection for streaming. These checks address delivery conditions; they do not, by themselves, correct a fixed audio offset.

Do not lower quality or change network settings blindly. OBS’s connection guide suggests setting video bitrate based on stable upload speed and platform limits, and gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point. That is general OBS guidance, not a YouTube-specific rule or a guaranteed desync fix. OBS stream connection troubleshooting was dated September 30, 2024.
Read the YouTube stream-health messages
In YouTube Live Control Room, check the Health Indicator for timestamped errors; red messages are critical and yellow messages are moderate. Correct errors actually reported for the live session, then test again. YouTube’s error guidance flags audio configuration such as codec, bitrate, sample rate, and number of audio streams. Its page gives 128 Kbps as a recommended audio bitrate and calls out 44.1 kHz in its sample-rate error guidance; publication dates are not stated on the pages checked.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Google’s API health documentation separately lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended audio sample rates, and includes sample-rate mismatch and video-ingestion starvation among health issue types. Because the YouTube Help and API pages phrase sample-rate guidance differently, follow the error shown for your stream and the encoder’s actual settings rather than treating 48 kHz alone as proof of a fault. An ingest or audio-configuration error is a clue to investigate, not proof that it caused the observed timing mismatch. See YouTube live-stream error messages and Google’s LiveStream configuration issue reference.
Prepare a 24/7 stream for sustained playback
A test should use representative audio and video movement, not just a static screen or silent segment. YouTube’s encoder-settings guidance says to test before going live with audio and movement similar to the real stream, select quality appropriate to the connection, and monitor stream health while live. YouTube transcodes live input for different viewer devices and network conditions, so compare the actual viewer playback as well as the encoder output. The guidance does not define a separate procedure for 24/7 streams. See YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Note whether the mismatch is constant or gradually drifts; these patterns can help distinguish an offset from a performance or delivery problem.
- Check whether one viewer or multiple viewers on different connections report it.
- Keep the timestamp and exact text of Live Control Room health errors.
Common mistakes that obscure the cause
- Applying a guessed offset: first establish which signal leads and test a local recording after each change.
- Changing bitrate to fix every sync problem: bitrate and network changes may address connection trouble, but do not prove or correct a fixed source offset.
- Assuming a health warning identifies the cause: investigate the reported configuration issue, then verify whether synchronization changes.
- Buying generic hardware without a diagnosis: the troubleshooting sources do not establish a capture card, audio interface, cable, or other physical product as a general fix.
When to escalate
If repeated local tests and live-health checks do not isolate the problem, save a short local sample and note when the mismatch occurs, whether audio leads or lags, which viewers and networks see it, and any timestamped Live Control Room messages. Contact the relevant encoder or platform support with those details. YouTube’s troubleshooting guide advises reporting continuing live-stream issues.
