First find where the mismatch begins: compare the OBS preview, a short local recording, YouTube’s Live Control Room preview, and the stream playback. Then adjust the source that is late. For example, if the camera picture trails an early microphone, OBS’s Render Delay filter can delay the video image in milliseconds. Don’t change YouTube’s latency mode expecting it to correct lip sync; stream latency is capture-to-playback delay, not the relative timing of sound and picture.
Find the first point where audio and video stop matching
Use a visible event paired with sound: say a word while facing the camera, or clap with your hands in view. Check the OBS preview, record and review a short local sample, then compare it with the YouTube Live Control Room preview and public playback if available. YouTube recommends checking the encoder, local archive, CPU load, and outbound connection when diagnosing stream problems (YouTube Help: troubleshoot live stream issues).
- The mismatch is already in the OBS preview or local recording: investigate capture timing, source properties, and per-source delay.
- Sources look right, but the encoder output or local archive does not: inspect encoder errors, processing load, and CPU use.
- The encoder output and local archive look and sound healthy, but viewers report a problem: inspect YouTube stream health and test the outbound connection.
Determine whether the offset stays roughly constant or grows over time. A steady offset points toward a fixed timing adjustment. Growing drift calls for investigating capture clocks, device timestamps, sample rates, and system load; increasing a fixed delay may only make the start of the stream look right. OBS documents a Windows-only device-timestamp option intended to help prevent desynchronization and recommends matching capture settings to the device’s supported setup (OBS Project: Video Capture Devices).

Adjust the source that is late in OBS
Camera picture is late; microphone audio is early
Try delaying the video source. In OBS, select the video source and add a Render Delay filter, then adjust its delay in milliseconds while recording short samples. The filter delays the rendered image and OBS identifies webcam-to-microphone synchronization as a use case (OBS Project: Render Delay Filter). Make small changes, replay the sample, and stop when the visible event matches the sound.

Capture-device video appears delayed or stutters
Inspect the Video Capture Device source’s Buffering setting. OBS says disabling buffering can help when the capture device itself has delay; buffering can also help with stuttering. Test both states with the device and workload you actually use, and keep the one that gives stable, synchronized output (OBS Project: Video Capture Devices).
Audio is late; video is early
Correct the late side: reduce any video delay already applied, or reduce the audio source’s delay if your setup has one. Change one setting at a time in small increments and judge a local recording or actual stream output, not headphone monitoring alone. The current OBS documentation cited here explains Render Delay and capture-device behavior, but does not establish a current menu path for an audio Sync Offset control, so interface labels may vary by OBS version.

Check RTMP settings without mistaking them for sync controls
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding as recommended setup choices. These are compatibility and stream-quality baselines, not guaranteed fixes for sound being early or late relative to the picture. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion; get the stream URL and key from Live Control Room (YouTube Help: live encoder settings).
YouTube defines stream latency as the delay between capture by the encoder or camera and presentation on the stream. Changing latency mode affects how long viewers wait; the guidance does not identify it as a fix for relative audio/video alignment (YouTube Help: live stream latency).

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Verify the correction before going live
- Make a private or unlisted test using the same camera, microphone, movement, and type of sound you expect in the program.
- Preview the test in Live Control Room and inspect a local archive for both timing and file integrity.
- Watch and listen for several minutes. Confirm that the timing stays consistent rather than only matching at the start.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the test; YouTube recommends representative tests, previewing before the event, checking local archives, and ongoing monitoring (YouTube Help: live streaming tips).
Common sync problems and what to try
| Symptom | Likely layer to investigate | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Audio is early in OBS and in the local recording | Video capture timing or source delay | Test a Render Delay on the video source and review another recording. |
| Capture-device video is late or unstable | Capture-device buffering or timing | Compare buffering on and off; check device-supported capture settings. |
| Sync is correct at first, then drifts | Capture clocks, timestamps, sample rates, or system load | Check device timestamp behavior and system load rather than relying on a fixed offset. |
| Local output is synchronized but YouTube playback is not | Encoder output, stream health, or outbound connection | Check encoder errors, CPU load, Live Control Room status, and outbound connectivity. |
| Changing latency mode does not fix lip sync | Relative source timing, not capture-to-playback latency | Return to source and output comparisons; adjust the late source. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than an OBS sync fix: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start your free day.
