Start by comparing the YouTube replay with the encoder’s local recording of the same stream. If both are out of sync, investigate the capture and encoding chain; if only the replay is affected, compare playback qualities and devices before escalating to YouTube. There is no single setting that reliably repairs every replay sync problem.
First, find out where the sync problem begins
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the local archive for audio or video problems. Compare the local recording with the replay at the same recognizable moments near the beginning, middle, and end. Listen for a clear sound—such as a spoken word or clap—and compare it with the matching mouth movement or action.
- Both the archive and replay are out of sync: focus first on the source, audio routing, device timing, encoder performance, and stream-health messages.
- The archive is clean but the replay is not: the fault is observed in YouTube playback, but that does not by itself establish its cause. Compare the replay across qualities and devices, then collect evidence for support.
Note whether the offset is roughly constant or grows as the video plays. A constant offset and one that drifts over time are useful clues, but neither alone identifies the cause.

Check whether the problem follows the replay or the viewer
Try the replay on another device or browser and, if available, at more than one playback quality. Ask another viewer on a different connection to check the same timestamp. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says a report from one viewer is likely related to that viewer’s computer or connection; reports from multiple viewers on different connections may point toward the encoder.

- If only one device or viewer has the issue, check that device and connection before changing encoder settings.
- If multiple viewers see it across devices or connections, inspect the encoder and stream-health information, while still comparing the local archive.
- If it appears only at one playback quality, record that quality and compare it with other renditions. YouTube creates multiple output formats for live streams, but transcoding alone is not proof of what caused a particular sync fault.
Inspect YouTube stream health and encoder logs
Open the stream’s Live Control Room stream-health report and look for warnings around the affected time. The YouTube Live Streaming API documents health issues related to audio settings, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe or GOP configuration, and insufficient video ingestion. These warnings can narrow the investigation; the documentation does not say that any one of them necessarily causes sync drift.
- Note the replay timestamp where the problem is clear.
- Match that time to Live Control Room health messages and your encoder log.
- Save the messages and logs before changing settings, so you can distinguish the original symptom from the result of a test.
If you use OBS, preserve its logs and note warnings about rendering or encoding load. Do not treat a warning as a confirmed cause without checking whether it coincides with the affected segment and whether the local archive shows the same fault.

Check audio capture and device timing in OBS
Remove duplicate capture paths
Review the OBS audio mixer and sources. Capturing the same device globally and again as a scene audio source can cause echo, according to OBS. Make sure each intended input is captured through the path you expect, and remove accidental duplicate capture while testing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTest device timestamps only when relevant
On Windows, OBS audio capture includes Use Device Timestamps. OBS describes it as an attempt to use device timing information to prevent desynchronization; it is not a guaranteed fix. If you test it, change only this setting, record the result, and compare a new local recording before relying on it for a live stream.

Check whether 4K60 encoding load is affecting timing
Rendering and encoding demand can affect performance. OBS recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate when performance is inadequate; if 60 fps is not working reliably, it suggests trying 30 fps. A controlled 30 fps test can show whether load may be involved, but it changes the output target and does not prove the original cause.
- Check encoder and system performance messages during the affected portion of the stream.
- For a test stream, reduce frame rate or output resolution and compare the local recording and replay.
- Change one variable at a time. If the result improves, repeat the test before concluding that the change addressed the underlying problem.
Verify YouTube’s 4K60 ingest settings
YouTube Help’s encoder-settings guidance, reviewed October 3, 2026, lists the following recommended bitrate ranges for 2160p at 60 fps. These are ingest settings—not a sync tolerance or a guarantee that changing bitrate will repair desynchronization.

| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
Use the settings appropriate to your selected codec and encoder. YouTube’s guidance also specifies:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Frame rate can be up to 60 fps.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Set keyframe frequency to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Use AAC or MP3 audio.
- For 4K/2160p, low-latency mode is unavailable; YouTube sets streams to normal latency.
The YouTube Live Streaming API health documentation identifies 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended audio sample rates, and can flag audio sample-rate, GOP/keyframe, or video-ingestion issues. Treat these as items to inspect, not proof that a particular warning caused sync drift. YouTube also recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health.

What to send YouTube if only the replay remains out of sync
If the local archive is clean but the replay problem persists across viewers or playback conditions, report it to YouTube with evidence. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance advises reporting persistent problems. Include:
- The replay URL, shared privately with support where appropriate.
- The local archive and exact timestamps showing the mismatch.
- Whether the offset is constant or grows, and which playback qualities, devices, and browsers show it.
- Encoder settings, relevant OBS or encoder logs, and Live Control Room stream-health messages.
Do not assume that waiting, deleting the replay, or uploading it again will correct the problem; the available guidance does not establish any of those as a general repair.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the broader problem is keeping uploaded video live on YouTube continuously, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded video rather than broadcasting from a camera. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, it supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
