There is no single documented India-specific fix for ApiFlash screenshots. Diagnose the failure by layer: check the API response, verify how the site selects its language, wait for the relevant content and fonts, then investigate glyph rendering, caching, or access restrictions. The right fix depends on what the screenshot actually shows.
Start with the API response
Before interpreting a response as a bad screenshot, check its HTTP status and body. ApiFlash documents these common errors:
| Status | Documented meaning | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 400 | Invalid parameters or a target that cannot be captured; the response includes an explanatory error message. | Correct the parameter names and values, confirm the target URL, and read the response body. JSON response mode can provide further error details. |
| 401 | Invalid or revoked API key. | Check that the key is current and being sent as intended. |
| 402 | Monthly quota exhausted. | Check usage and quota for the account. |
| 403 | A feature is unsupported by the plan. | Check whether the requested option is available on the account’s plan. |
| 429 | Too many requests. | Reduce the request rate and retry in line with the service’s limits. |
| 500 | Capture failure. | Check the target and capture settings; if the failure persists, retain the response details for support. |
These distinctions matter: changing a language or wait parameter will not resolve an invalid key, exhausted quota, or plan restriction. See the ApiFlash Screenshot API documentation for its error and parameter details.
Check why the site chose the wrong language
ApiFlash’s accept_language parameter sets the Accept-Language request header. Set it to the locale the target site recognizes when the site uses that header to choose a language. The header is a request signal, not a guarantee that the site will switch languages.
#1 Best Overall
Some sites may choose language from a locale-specific URL path, a cookie, or application state instead of—or in addition to—the header. Inspect the site’s normal language-selection behavior and reproduce the relevant path or session condition. ApiFlash’s FAQ also points to accept_language for requesting a specific language. See the API documentation and ApiFlash FAQ.
Wait for the content and fonts the screenshot needs
A page can return a valid screenshot before a language-specific section, client-rendered text, or web font is ready. ApiFlash documents three wait_until states: network_idle (the default), dom_loaded, and page_loaded. Choose the state that matches the page’s behavior rather than assuming every site is ready at the same point.
Rank #2
wait_until_timeoutcan be set up to 30 seconds.wait_forwaits for a CSS selector; capture aborts if the selector is not found after 15 seconds.delaycan add up to 10 seconds, but a fixed delay is less targeted than waiting for a meaningful selector or page state.
For example, if the regional-language article body appears only after client rendering, wait for a selector that identifies that body. If the body is present but the text looks wrong, investigate fonts and glyph rendering rather than adding more delay. Parameter behavior and limits are described in the ApiFlash documentation.
Diagnose missing or incorrect regional-language glyphs
ApiFlash says screenshots run in Chrome on Linux. Its available system fonts can differ from those on a Windows or macOS computer, so a page that looks correct locally can render differently in a screenshot. ApiFlash’s FAQ recommends that a website serve its own fonts rather than rely on machine-installed system fonts.
Rank #3
Check whether the page’s intended font files load successfully and whether the rendered text is actually the expected text. ApiFlash also warns that custom headers apply to all requests, including font requests; a header intended for the page can therefore interfere with external font delivery. If you use custom headers, test whether removing or adjusting them restores the font requests.
Indian languages use multiple scripts and have text-processing and shaping considerations; a missing glyph, a substitution, and incorrectly shaped text are not necessarily the same problem. Inspect the text and font resources before treating every visual defect as a generic encoding issue. The Unicode Consortium’s Indian-language feedback material discusses script-specific text-processing considerations, while the Unicode Standard, version 17.0 provides standards context.
Rule out a cached screenshot
ApiFlash may return a cached screenshot when the request parameters are identical. Set fresh=true to request a new capture while diagnosing a page that appears unchanged after its content has updated. This does not invalidate the previously cached screenshot. See the cache-control documentation.

A challenge page, access denial, or login screen points to an access or session issue rather than a language-rendering defect. ApiFlash says bot-protection services can block captures and suggests a proxy; the required proxy level depends on the protection, and supplying one does not guarantee access. For authenticated pages, its documentation and FAQ describe cookies or headers. Use only credentials and access methods you are authorized to use.

Match the symptom to the next check
| What you see | Likely area to investigate | Documented check or control |
|---|---|---|
| Readable page, but in the wrong language | Site locale selection | Check the site’s locale behavior; try accept_language, and inspect locale paths or cookies if the site uses them. |
| Content or fonts are absent although they appear in a normal browser | Page readiness or resource loading | Use an appropriate wait_until state or wait_for selector; inspect font requests and custom headers. |
| Boxes, substitutions, or different shaping | Font availability or text rendering | Verify the font files load and whether the site serves its own fonts; account for ApiFlash’s Linux Chrome environment. |
| Screenshot stays unchanged after the page changes | Cache | Request fresh=true. |
| Non-image response or explicit API error | Request, credentials, quota, plan, rate, or capture failure | Use the status and response body to identify the relevant correction. |
| Challenge page, denial, or login screen | Bot protection or authentication | Check authorized cookies or headers, or an appropriate proxy; success is not assured. |
Or skip the browser setup
If you would rather try another screenshot API, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. Its response identifies the page verdict and billing status. One GET request can return an image or PDF; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server for AI agents, and its free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does setting `accept_language` guarantee the site will use that language?
No. It sets the request’s `Accept-Language` header, but the site may select language using a URL path, cookie, or application state.
Will `fresh=true` delete the old cached screenshot?
No. It requests a new capture but does not invalidate the previously cached screenshot.
Can a proxy guarantee that ApiFlash will get through bot protection?
No. ApiFlash says the proxy level needed depends on the protection, and access is not guaranteed.
