First determine whether the lyrics are wrong or garbled in the generated performance, or whether the words are correct but masked by the music. Regenerate the song when the words or vocal delivery are defective; rebalance a separated vocal stem when the backing track is what makes an otherwise usable vocal hard to hear. Stem separation can help with masking, but it cannot restore syllables that were never clearly sung.
Identify what is making the vocals hard to understand
Listen to the vocal in context and, if possible, on its own. Compare the sung words with the intended lyrics.
- The words or performance are wrong: The vocal itself contains incorrect, fused, or unintelligible words. Mixing changes will not fix the underlying performance; make a new generation with clearer lyric and vocal instructions.
- The words are right but buried: The vocal is understandable on its own, but dense instruments, loud accompaniment, or the overall balance obscure it. Try separating the vocal and adjusting its level against the backing.
Regenerate when the lyrics or vocal performance are defective
Give the generator more structure
Put custom lyrics in a clearly marked lyrics section, name the language, and label sections such as verse, chorus, and bridge. Specify the vocal delivery and singer qualities you want rather than relying on a broad style prompt. Google’s Lyria 3.5 guidance recommends specific prompts and section labels. Outputs can vary between calls, so a more detailed prompt does not guarantee an exact performance.
Use the revision controls available on that platform
Controls differ by service. Suno’s Reuse Prompt workflow lets you revise lyrics and style before creating a new version. Google says current Lyria 3.5 generation is single-turn: its documentation states that iterative editing or refining a generated clip through multiple prompts is not supported. Do not assume a revision feature in one generator exists in another.

Separate and rebalance vocals when the backing masks them
If the vocal contains the right words but the accompaniment overwhelms it, separate the vocal from the music, then compare and adjust the parts in an editor or DAW. You might use a vocal-only stem or a vocal-plus-complement split, depending on the tool and how much control you need.
Suno stem separation
Suno’s stem-separation guide describes several options in an update dated June 11, 2026. Auto Split can create up to 12 stems and is described by Suno as less precise than its updated options. Split from Mix separates a selected part and a complementary track; Advanced Split offers finer choices and is identified as Premier-only in that update. Suno describes stem separation as a paid feature, so check the current plan and interface before relying on access.

Suno says its newer approach regenerates stems and acknowledges that separation may leave bleed or watery artifacts. Those are the vendor’s descriptions, not an independent comparison of repair quality. Listen to the extracted vocal and the full mix: if consonants sound damaged or artifacts are distracting, try another separation mode or return to a new generation.
Ableton Live 12
For users already working in Ableton Live, the Live 12 manual documents local separation of mono or stereo audio into vocals, drums, bass, and other, with speed and quality modes. This offers access to several parts for in-project editing; the manual does not establish that it will recover unclear lyrics.

Moises
Apple Developer’s 2025 profile of Moises describes vocal and instrument separation, pitch changes, chord display, and practice functions. It is a mobile- and web-oriented option to consider, but the cited information does not establish its relative repair performance on AI-generated songs. Apple’s profile reported more than 60 million users at publication; that dated usage figure is not a measure of current active users or separation accuracy.

Choose based on whether you need only a vocal split or several instrument stems, where you want to edit, how much control the tool offers, and whether any separation artifacts are acceptable. Check current feature and plan availability because access can change.
Check the result in the full mix
After separation, adjust the vocal’s relative level and listen to both the isolated part and the complete song. Headphones can help you compare the stem with the full mix while editing, but they cannot repair garbled generated words or guarantee that the balance will sound the same on other playback systems.
