If your Vivo phone won’t charge or charges slowly, start with its original charger and USB cable, then test a different outlet and reduce activity on the phone. If the phone is powered off, leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before checking for a charging animation. These steps help distinguish a charging setup issue from a problem that needs service.
1. Check the charger, cable, and outlet
Connect the phone to its original Vivo charger and USB cable if you have them. Check that both ends are seated normally, then try a wall outlet you know works. Vivo recommends testing another regular charger or USB cable and changing the outlet if charging remains slow. Vivo South Africa’s slow-charging guidance describes these checks.
Change one thing at a time: keep the cable and adapter the same while testing another outlet; then test a different cable or adapter while using the known-working outlet. If the problem changes when one item changes, that points to the setup rather than proving the phone itself is faulty.
Use an accessory compatible with your exact Vivo model. Vivo’s user guide says to use a charger and USB cable compatible with the device for charging safety; it does not establish one charger specification that applies to every Vivo phone. 2. Reduce power use during the charging test
Leave the phone unused while it charges. Stop gaming, clear running background apps, and turn off mobile or wireless connections, GPS, Bluetooth, and other features you do not need during the test. Vivo notes that playing on the phone while charging may extend charge time. Vivo South Africa’s FAQ recommends reducing phone activity and unnecessary connections.
If charging improves when the phone is idle, that shows active use was affecting the time needed to charge; it does not confirm that the battery or charging port is healthy.

3. If the phone is off, wait for a charging indication
Connect the powered-off phone with its original adapter and cable and leave it charging for at least 30 minutes. Then check for a charging animation. Vivo UK recommends this wait before treating a phone that will not turn on as if it has not charged. Vivo UK’s no-power guidance

- Connect the phone to the original adapter and cable.
- Leave it connected for at least 30 minutes.
- Check the screen for a charging animation.
- If no charging indication appears, try another regular adapter and cable.
If there is still no charging indication, Vivo advises taking the phone, charging accessories, and purchase credentials to a local service center.

4. Update the phone and restore settings if it still charges slowly
If the phone does charge but remains slow after you have checked the accessories, outlet, and phone activity, install the latest software version available for the device. Vivo also suggests restoring all settings. Its South Africa FAQ gives this path: Settings > More settings > Backup & Reset > Restore all settings. Menu names can vary by model, software version, and region, so look for the equivalent option if your menus differ.

5. Contact Vivo service if the problem continues
If charging remains abnormal after these checks, contact a Vivo service center instead of concluding from symptoms alone that the port, battery, or internal board is damaged. Vivo’s Global support page provides service-center resources and a spare-parts price lookup. No single cause can be identified from slow or absent charging alone.
