If your Samsung Galaxy Tab won’t connect to Wi‑Fi, restart the tablet and router, confirm Wi‑Fi is on, and reconnect using the network’s current password. If that does not work, check whether other devices can use the same network, then try the tablet-specific steps below. Menu names and layouts vary by model and software version.
Start with the quickest checks
Restart the tablet and router
- Restart the Galaxy Tab from its power menu.
- Restart the router by unplugging and reconnecting its power, or use its settings page if you cannot remove the power cable. Router controls differ by manufacturer.
- Try connecting the tablet again.
A restart can clear a temporary tablet or router problem. Samsung’s Wi‑Fi connection troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting both.
Confirm Wi‑Fi and the password
- On the tablet, open Settings > Connections > Wi‑Fi. Turn Wi‑Fi on if it is off; labels may differ on your model.
- Select your network and enter its current password carefully. Check capitalization and any characters that are easy to confuse.
Forget the network and reconnect
If the tablet has a saved but outdated network profile, open the Wi‑Fi network list, press and hold the network name, and choose Forget network. Select the network again and enter its password. This gives the tablet a fresh connection setup without resetting all network settings.

- No other device can find or connect to it: The router or access point is the likelier source of the problem. Check its status and whether its firmware is current. If the network remains unavailable or you cannot update the firmware, contact the router manufacturer.
- Other devices connect normally: Continue with the Galaxy Tab steps below.
This check helps narrow down the cause; it does not prove which component has failed. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking other devices and the router.
Check for a Galaxy Tab software update
Open Settings > Software update and select the available option to check for or install an update. The exact wording and update routes depend on the device. Samsung describes updating over the air and using Smart Switch on a PC in its Galaxy phone and tablet update instructions. An over-the-air update needs an internet connection, so use another available connection or the PC route if the tablet cannot reach Wi‑Fi.

Test Wi‑Fi in Safe mode
Safe mode temporarily disables third-party apps, which can help identify whether an installed app is interfering with Wi‑Fi.

- Open the tablet’s power menu.
- Press and hold Power off until the Safe mode option appears, then start Safe mode.
- Try connecting to the Wi‑Fi network.
- Restart the tablet normally to leave Safe mode.
If Wi‑Fi works in Safe mode but not during normal use, a recently installed third-party app may be involved. Remove recent apps you do not need one at a time, testing Wi‑Fi after each removal. Samsung explains this Safe mode check in its Galaxy Wi‑Fi troubleshooting steps.

Reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings
Try this only after restarting and reconnecting have failed. On supported software, the US menu path is Settings > General management > Reset > Reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings > Reset settings. Read the confirmation screen and proceed only if the wording matches your tablet.
This is a Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings reset, not a factory reset. You will need to set up network connections again. The exact reset effects and labels can vary by model and software version, so check the on-screen description before confirming.

Run Samsung Members Wi‑Fi diagnostics
If the connection still fails, open Samsung Members > Support > Get started > Wi‑Fi and follow the prompts. Samsung says the diagnostic requires the Samsung Members app to be installed. If it reports a problem or the connection remains broken after these steps, contact Samsung support for options applicable to your country and model.
If the tablet cannot find the network
A network that does not appear in the Wi‑Fi list differs from one that appears but rejects the password or fails to connect. First check whether other devices can see it. If they cannot, investigate the router. If they can, restart the tablet and router, confirm Wi‑Fi is on, and try the tablet checks above. Samsung’s guidance is for Galaxy devices generally; the exact cause cannot be established without the Tab model, software version, and network details.
