If your Samsung Galaxy S6 will not turn on or charge, first leave it connected to a known-good compatible wall charger for several minutes, then check the outlet, cable, adapter, and phone’s charging port. A fully depleted battery may not start the phone immediately. If the phone or charger is wet, swollen, unusually hot, or visibly damaged, stop charging and seek qualified service instead.
1. Give a depleted Galaxy S6 time to charge
Connect the phone to a working wall outlet using a compatible charger and cable. If the battery may be fully drained, leave it connected for several minutes before trying to power it on. Charging time varies by model, so there is no verified Galaxy S6-specific wait interval to promise. Samsung’s Galaxy phone power guidance explains that a phone may need to charge before it can start.
A computer USB port can supply less power than a suitable wall adapter, so it may charge the phone more slowly. For troubleshooting, use a wall outlet rather than relying on a PC connection.

A charging accessory can fail even when the phone is fine. Check that the cable is firmly connected at both ends and does not wobble in the phone’s port. If practical, verify that the outlet and adapter work with another device, then test the S6 with another compatible cable or adapter. Samsung recommends checking the charger and connection; Google’s Android troubleshooting checklist also suggests trying another cable, adapter, and outlet.

- If the phone begins charging with a different cable or adapter, the original accessory may be faulty.
- If it still does not respond, the checks have not ruled out a problem inside the phone.
- Do not keep using a charger or cable that is visibly damaged or becomes unusually hot.
3. Inspect the Galaxy S6 charging port safely
With the phone disconnected from power, look into the charging port under good light. Debris, corrosion, bent pins, moisture, or physical damage can interfere with charging. Samsung lists these as possible charging problems in its charging and power support guidance.
Do not insert a sharp object to clean the port. Samsung warns against sharp tools; if debris cannot be cleared safely or the port looks damaged, arrange service rather than probing it. Stop charging and seek qualified assistance if the phone is wet, swollen, unusually hot, or has impact damage.

4. Treat button combinations carefully
A forced restart is not the same as a factory reset: a factory reset can erase data. Samsung says, “If performed correctly, a forced restart will not erase any information from the phone.” However, its general restart instructions use the Side key and Volume Down, a combination not verified here for the Galaxy S6. Do not assume those newer-Galaxy instructions apply to this model. Check the S6 manual or Samsung service guidance for the correct physical-button sequence.
Samsung Australia’s Galaxy S6 support page lists model documentation, including a historical Marshmallow manual. Do not choose a factory reset as an initial fix for a phone that will not power on or charge; it risks data loss, and the available guidance does not establish that a reset fixes a hardware-related no-power problem.

5. When to stop troubleshooting at home
Seek service diagnosis if a known-good charging setup and safe visual checks do not help, or if you see physical or liquid damage. Samsung’s service guidance notes that a phone that will not power on or repeatedly reboots may have a mainboard issue requiring inspection. Symptoms alone cannot establish whether the fault is the battery, port, power button, display, or board.
Galaxy S6 repair acceptance, prices, and parts availability depend on location; current availability is not established here. Ask a repair provider to assess the device before buying a replacement battery or opening-tool kit, since the evidence does not identify the battery as the cause or establish a model-specific safe repair procedure.
