If your Samsung Blu-ray player won’t connect to Wi-Fi, first find out whether it can join the router, reach the internet, or only access the streaming app that is failing. Run the player’s network test, note the failed stage, and—if the model has a LAN port—try Ethernet to separate a wireless problem from an internet or service problem. The right fix depends on the exact model and region.
Identify where the connection fails
A successful Wi-Fi connection involves two links: the Blu-ray player must connect to the router, and the router must provide internet access. A player may join the local network but still fail to reach online services. Samsung’s internet troubleshooting overview recommends identifying where the connection breaks rather than treating every streaming failure as a Wi-Fi fault.
Before changing settings, note the full model code from the player’s label or its Support/About screen, your country or region, the exact on-screen error, and whether other devices on the same network can get online. Menu labels, network features, and app support vary by model and market.

Run the player’s network test
Open the Network Test or Network Status option if your model provides one. Record each result, not just the final message. Instructions for some older Samsung players check stages such as the MAC address, IP address or gateway, and internet service. A failure at one stage points to a different issue than a test that passes locally but fails at the internet stage; see Samsung’s legacy network-test instructions.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if available
If the player has a LAN port, connect it temporarily to the router with an Ethernet cable and run the test again. Samsung’s wired-connection troubleshooting uses this as a way to investigate the network path. If Ethernet works while Wi-Fi does not, focus on the wireless connection or router settings. If both fail, check the router’s internet access and the wider network before resetting the player. Ethernet is a diagnostic test, not a repair for Wi-Fi.
If the player cannot see or join your Wi-Fi network
- Retry the connection details. On the player’s network setup screen, select the intended network and carefully re-enter its password. Confirm that you have selected the correct network name.
- Restart the player and router. Power-cycle both, allow the router to reconnect to the internet, then retry the player’s setup. The restart procedure varies by equipment, so follow the device manuals.
- Test closer to the router. If practical, move the player or router temporarily to reduce distance and obstacles. If the network appears only nearby, wireless coverage may be the problem.
- Check compatibility and access controls. Compare the router’s band, security mode, and access-control settings with the requirements in the manual for your exact player. Samsung’s wireless guidance for older models includes limitations tied to those models; it is not a universal rule for all Blu-ray players. Do not weaken modern router security just to accommodate an older device.
Samsung’s wireless troubleshooting guidance includes model-specific notes, including historical guidance about WEP keys. Check your player’s manual and router documentation before changing encryption or other router settings; the available guidance does not establish one Wi-Fi band or channel setting that works for every Samsung Blu-ray model.

If Wi-Fi connects but the player cannot reach the internet
- Check whether another phone, computer, or connected device can reach the internet on the same network.
- Review the player’s network-test stages. A local connection that passes while the internet-service stage fails suggests a problem beyond the player-to-router link.
- If the player has a LAN port, repeat the test over Ethernet. A wired failure as well as a wireless failure makes the router’s internet connection, modem, or internet provider worth checking.
- Check the router’s internet status and any provider outage information before factory-resetting the player.
A failed internet check does not by itself show that the player’s Wi-Fi hardware is defective. Use the failed stage and the wired-versus-wireless comparison to narrow down the cause.
If only one streaming app fails
If other online features work, troubleshoot the affected app rather than assuming the Wi-Fi connection is broken. Samsung’s legacy Netflix troubleshooting lists possible causes including communication between the player and network equipment, an account that needs reactivation, router firmware or firewall settings, and insufficient bandwidth. Those are possibilities from older, service-specific guidance—not a current, exhaustive diagnosis.

- Check whether the app’s service still supports your exact player model and regional firmware. App availability is not established for every Samsung Blu-ray player.
- Follow the app’s current sign-in or account-reactivation prompts, if shown.
- If the problem is limited to one service, consider service-specific router or bandwidth issues; avoid resetting all network equipment as the first response.
If apps are missing or Smart Hub setup is incomplete
Some players require Smart Hub setup or a service update before apps appear. Samsung’s Smart Hub setup guidance describes connecting the player to a TV and a wired or wireless network before setup and an update. That procedure is tied to older player generations, so the current menu and available services may differ.
Use the instructions for your model to check any date-and-time, region, account, terms, or update prompts. If an app remains unavailable, verify that the service supports the player in your market rather than assuming a network repair will restore it.

When to update, reset, or seek service
Check firmware and the manual for the complete model code
Use Samsung’s regional product-support page for your exact model to find its manual and any available firmware. Update steps are not universal: a third-party copy of the UBD-M9500 manual, for example, describes updating through player settings or from a USB drive. Do not assume those steps apply to another model.

A factory reset can erase network and account configuration and require setup again. Before using one, note the settings you may need to restore and consult the manual for the reset procedure specific to your player.

- 4K / UHD Upscale - This 3D Blu-ray player supports full HD 1080p Blu-ray disc playback from its HDMI output, and can also upconvert standard definition DVDs and Blu-ray movies to near 4K quality when used with a 4K television. Color and model may vary.
Get hardware help if a model-specific test continues to fail
In Samsung’s referenced legacy procedure, a MAC-address test that still fails after reset and initial setup may point to a problem requiring service. That is a clue for the models covered by that procedure, not a universal diagnosis. Confirm the exact model and repair options with Samsung Support or a qualified repair service before considering a replacement wireless part.
