If your Motorola Razr will not turn on, first connect it to a compatible wall charger and leave it charging for 15–20 minutes; a fully drained phone may not show a charging indicator right away. Then try a force reboot by holding the power key for 10 seconds. These checks can help distinguish a depleted battery or unresponsive software from a fault that needs service.
Check the charger, cable, and outlet
Use the charger supplied with your Razr or one confirmed compatible with your exact model. Make sure the cable fits snugly at both ends, then connect the charger to a wall outlet. Charging from a computer USB port or another low-power source can take longer. Motorola does not establish one universal charger wattage for every Razr generation, so check model-specific guidance before buying an accessory. Motorola’s charging guidance covers these basic checks.
- Inspect the cable and charging connection for looseness or visible damage; do not force a connector.
- If you can, try another compatible cable, charger, or wall outlet to isolate a failed accessory.
- Do not charge the phone below 0°C (32°F) or above 45°C (113°F), as Motorola advises against charging outside that range. See Motorola’s charging checklist.
Allow time for a deeply discharged battery
A Razr whose battery is completely depleted may need approximately 15–20 minutes on the supplied charger before it reaches the minimum level needed to start. Motorola notes that the charging outline or percentage may not appear until the phone has enough voltage to boot. Keep it connected during that wait rather than treating a blank screen as proof that charging has failed. Motorola’s power-on instructions describe this delay.

If the phone has charge but remains unresponsive, hold the power key for 10 seconds. Motorola’s general restart guidance gives a 10–20 second range, recommends at least 5% charge, and suggests trying again while connected to a wall charger if the first attempt does not work. A force reboot does not delete your data. Read Motorola’s power-on guidance and restart instructions.

If it powers on but freezes at startup
For the 2020 Razr, Motorola’s user guide describes Safe Mode as a way to investigate an app that locks the phone during startup. Safe Mode and its steps can differ by generation, so consult the guide for your exact model rather than assuming the 2020 instructions apply to every Razr. Open the Razr 2020 user guide.
A factory reset is not an early troubleshooting step: Motorola warns that it erases downloaded apps and user data. Consider it only after less destructive checks and after you understand what data is backed up and what will be lost.

When to stop and seek service
Stop troubleshooting and use qualified service if the phone has physical damage, has been exposed to liquid, becomes unusually hot, or continues to fail to charge after the checks above. Do not open the foldable phone or attempt to remove or replace its internal battery. Motorola Support warns that doing so may damage the battery and cause burns or injury.
