If a cloud YouTube stream does not resume after a brief outage, first check whether the cloud encoder job is still running. Then verify its YouTube server URL and stream key in Live Control Room, inspect the preview and encoder output, and test the connection from the cloud environment. The fault may be at any of these layers; YouTube does not promise that every cloud encoder will automatically resume after an interruption.
Diagnose where the stream stopped
A cloud encoder sends video and audio to YouTube using a server URL and stream key. After an outage, the encoder job might have stopped, might be running without sending a usable feed, or might be sending a healthy feed that YouTube is not ingesting or publishing. Check each layer in order rather than repeatedly restarting the stream.
Restore the stream step by step

Check the cloud encoder job
Open the cloud service’s job or session view and check whether it is running, reconnecting, failed, or stopped. If it has exited or is stuck, use that provider’s documented restart or reconnect procedure. The exact controls and retry behavior depend on the provider; there is no universal button or reconnect timer to rely on.

Verify the YouTube ingest settings
In YouTube Studio, open the relevant event in Live Control Room and compare its current stream settings with the cloud encoder’s server URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as the credential the encoder uses to send the feed, so do not share it publicly. If a third-party encoder will not start, YouTube advises copying the current key from Live Control Room and updating the encoder. Inspect YouTube preview and encoder output
Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then inspect the cloud encoder’s output and error logs. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder software version, direct audio/video output, dashboard errors, CPU load, and a local archive if available. If the output is itself missing or corrupted, investigate the source or encoder. If it looks healthy, move on to connectivity checks.

Test outbound connectivity from the cloud
A speed test on your home or office computer does not establish that the cloud encoder can reach YouTube. Check connectivity from the encoder’s environment or ask the cloud provider or network operator to do so. YouTube warns that disrupted connectivity can break a stream, advises keeping upload capacity above the total stream bitrate with headroom, and notes that healthy encoder output alongside a stream problem can point to the outbound connection. Check the event’s start workflow
An immediate encoder stream and a scheduled stream do not necessarily use the same start sequence. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room and follow the event workflow, which may require clicking “Go live.” Confirm the event’s actual state before restarting the encoder again. Rehearse recovery before the next event
Test the recovery path when an interruption will not disrupt an important broadcast. YouTube recommends testing primary-to-backup encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet, then confirming that playback rolls over to the backup. If the stream still will not resume
Collect the outage time, cloud job status, encoder logs, Live Control Room messages, whether the preview returned, and the current server/key configuration for troubleshooting. Keep the stream key secret when sharing logs or screenshots. If the encoder output is healthy but outbound connectivity is failing, contact the cloud provider or network operator. If the encoder and connection check out but YouTube ingest still fails, use YouTube’s report-a-problem path. YouTube also advises contacting the third-party software’s support team when signing into YouTube through software without using a stream key.

Questions worth checking before choosing another provider
Cloud services can differ in what happens when YouTube or the network interrupts a feed. Before relying on one for an important stream, check its own documentation for whether it reconnects automatically or requires a job restart, what happens to scheduled events, what retry alerts and logs are available, whether backup encoders or regions are supported, which YouTube ingest protocols it supports, and how it stores and rotates stream keys. Do not assume those behaviors are the same across providers.
