If a church YouTube stream goes offline after a few hours in India, the timing alone does not reveal why. First establish whether the encoder stopped sending, the network connection failed, or YouTube ended the broadcast after its feed stopped. Check the encoder, Live Control Room and local recording at the time of the interruption before changing settings or replacing equipment.
First identify what stopped
During the next service or a monitored test, note the time of the interruption and check these three places:
- Encoder: Is OBS or another encoder still live and sending? Check its status, error messages, dropped frames and bitrate.
- YouTube Live Control Room: Does the stream still show that it is receiving data, or does the broadcast show as ended? YouTube’s API documentation describes an
activestream status as the server receiving data from the encoder. - Local recording: Is the archive file still growing, and does it contain the expected picture and sound?
If the encoder stopped, or its statistics show dropped frames or a disconnection, investigate the encoder and outbound network first. If it continues sending but YouTube ends the broadcast, inspect the broadcast settings and any message in Live Control Room. If the local recording also stops or has a picture or sound problem, that is useful evidence of an encoder or source issue.

Check encoder health
- Update the encoder software. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the encoder is up to date.
- Inspect the encoder’s output and error information. Confirm that its preview has the expected picture and sound, and look for warnings or an explicit stop event at the time the stream went offline.
- Check CPU load. If the computer is heavily loaded while encoding, investigate what is consuming resources and whether the encoder reports a processing problem.
- Compare the encoder status with the local archive. A recording that stops at the same time or shows the same fault can help distinguish a source or encoding problem from a problem limited to the YouTube connection.
- Consider another encoder only when the evidence points to the current one. YouTube’s guidance treats a different encoder as a troubleshooting step when encoder-side checks indicate a problem—not as a reason to replace working equipment pre-emptively.
Check the connection from the church to YouTube
Look at encoder statistics while the stream is running, not just a speed test taken at another time. Dropped frames, bitrate collapse or intermittent disconnections can indicate that the outbound connection cannot sustain the configured stream or is unstable on the route to the ingest server. OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting page says: “If you experience dropped frames or intermittent disconnections while streaming, there is a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.”

- Test outbound connectivity during a test stream. Observe whether the connection degrades or drops when the encoder is sending.
- Check the network path in use. If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection can help you check whether the wireless link is involved. If you suspect a damaged cable, testing with a known-working one may help. Neither step is a guaranteed fix.
- Escalate confirmed connection trouble to the ISP. YouTube Help advises: “If you find issues with your Internet connection, contact your Internet service provider to troubleshoot.” A cable will not fix an ISP outage, power loss, an encoder fault or an unsuitable configuration.
The available documentation does not establish a special YouTube timeout for India or identify the cause of a particular church’s interruption. The church’s connection, ISP, encoder logs and any local outage need to be assessed on their own evidence.
Review YouTube’s broadcast settings
In YouTube Live Control Room, open the affected stream and check its auto-start and auto-stop settings. If a scheduled stream was created by reusing a previous stream, check the settings on that actual stream: reusing settings carries these selections over, so do not assume the defaults.

YouTube’s API guide says that when auto-stop is enabled, a broadcast ends about a minute after the encoder stops sending video. That setting can explain why YouTube ends the broadcast after a feed interruption; it does not explain why the encoder stopped sending in the first place. Diagnose the interruption separately.
Run a monitored test before the next service
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder stream in advance and checking it before going live. For a church test, use this sequence:

- LCD DISPLAY PANEL: Features an intuitive LCD screen that displays real-time status information including battery charge level, estimated runtime, load capacity, and input voltage for easy monitoring of your power protection system
- Start the encoder and confirm the picture and sound in its output.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live, and confirm that YouTube is receiving the stream.
- Verify that the local archive file is growing.
- Check that the watch page is accessible and monitor audio and video quality during the test.
- If the stream fails, record the time, the exact YouTube message, the encoder’s dropped-frame and bitrate status, and whether the local archive continued to grow.
Those observations give church staff, the encoder’s support team or the ISP something concrete to investigate. YouTube’s setup and monitoring recommendations are in YouTube Help’s guide to encoder streaming.
Do not confuse the 12-hour DVR note with a stream cutoff
YouTube says DVR capability—viewers’ ability to pause or rewind a live stream—may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That is a note about DVR functionality, not evidence that YouTube automatically ends a stream after a few hours. See YouTube Help’s live-stream DVR information.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the church is streaming uploaded recordings rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. The steps are upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material from the cloud, so a computer and home connection do not have to stay on; it is not a camera-based live service.
