If a 24/7 YouTube music stream keeps playing one song, trace the audio through the broadcast chain: check the playlist or automation queue first, then the encoder, YouTube’s Live Control Room, and finally the viewer’s device. If the song repeats in the source or encoder preview, fix it there; if those are correct, look downstream for an ingestion or playback problem.
First determine where the song starts repeating
A song that sounds stuck can have different causes. The playlist may be supplying the same track repeatedly, the encoder may be sending unexpected output, YouTube may be reporting an ingestion problem, or the issue may be limited to one viewer’s playback. Compare the audio at each stage before changing settings or restarting the broadcast.
- Listen to the playlist or automation output. Check whether the queue advances to the next intended track. Review repeat-one, shuffle, rotation, scheduling, and file-selection rules. If the source itself repeats, correct its queue or automation job. The exact controls depend on the software you use; YouTube’s guidance does not document third-party playlist tools.
- Check the encoder preview. Listen to or inspect what the encoder is sending to YouTube. If the repetition is already present, focus on the source or encoder configuration. If the output is correct, continue downstream.
- Inspect the local archive, if you record one. YouTube recommends checking whether the local archive is growing and intact. Compare it with the encoder preview: a recording that also contains the repeated song can help establish that the issue is upstream of viewer playback.
- Review YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check the stream-health indicator and any error messages. YouTube documents messages involving stream format, bitrate, audio/video configuration, and keyframe frequency. These can indicate delivery problems, but they are not proof that the playlist is repeating. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
- Compare viewers and connections. Play the live stream on another supported device or connection. If only one viewer hears a repeat while the source and encoder output are correct, investigate that viewer’s browser, device, and network. YouTube’s viewer playback troubleshooting covers basic playback checks and notes that congestion and broadcast delay can affect live viewing.
This source-first order is a practical way to isolate where repeated audio enters the signal chain; it is not a YouTube-published diagnostic rule.
Fix a playlist or automation that repeats one track
If the same song appears in the source output, changing YouTube’s bitrate or restarting the stream will not repair the queue. In the software that supplies audio to the encoder, check:

- Whether repeat-one is enabled instead of repeat-all or continuous rotation.
- Whether the rotation or playlist contains only one item, or whether other tracks are unavailable or failing to load.
- Whether shuffle, scheduling, or a stale scheduled item is overriding the intended order.
- Whether the selected file path or media library points to the correct track collection.
Make one correction at a time, then listen to the source output long enough to confirm that it advances as intended before changing the encoder. The relevant settings and recovery steps vary by automation product, so consult that product’s documentation for exact controls.
Check the encoder and stream health
Compare the encoder preview with the source
YouTube recommends updating encoder software, checking the stream’s sound and appearance directly in the encoder, examining source quality and encoder CPU load, and reviewing a local archive when available. If the encoder preview repeats a song that does not repeat at the source, investigate the encoder’s input selection and configuration. YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guide outlines these checks.

Use Live Control Room errors as evidence
Read the specific health message rather than treating any warning as a playlist diagnosis. YouTube’s error list includes format, bitrate, audio/video configuration, and keyframe-frequency issues. Resolve the error indicated by YouTube, then confirm whether the repeating audio remains.
Check bandwidth and settings when delivery is unstable
A network problem is more likely to cause interruptions or degraded playback than a source queue that repeats the same song. YouTube says the stream’s total bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom. Test the connection under representative streaming conditions and monitor audio/video and the local archive. Restart only when you know what it can fix
Restarting may restore correct output after you fix a queue or encoder fault, but it does not identify the cause. Before restarting a 24/7 broadcast, check the recovery procedure for your automation and encoder setup and weigh the interruption against the need to restore correct audio. YouTube’s reviewed guidance covers stream settings, DVR, and auto-start/auto-stop, but it does not prescribe a universal restart procedure or guarantee that an archive or viewer continuity will be preserved. Treat continuity as configuration-dependent.
