First find out whether the live broadcast is disconnecting or viewers are only experiencing buffering. If you stream from OBS, check its dropped-frame count and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health indicator during an interruption. A rising OBS count points to a connection or bitrate problem on the broadcaster’s upload path; a stream that stays live without dropped frames calls for playback checks instead. The available guidance does not identify a general Indian broadband problem or a particular ISP as the cause.
Find out where the interruption is happening
If the live event goes offline or OBS drops frames
Watch the OBS dropped-frame count and YouTube Live Control Room health indicator while the problem occurs. OBS says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. Note the time of each interruption and any error YouTube displays.
If only some viewers see buffering
If the event remains live and OBS is not accumulating dropped frames, do not start by changing the encoder. Ask an affected viewer to try another device or network. YouTube also recommends reducing interference near the router. This helps distinguish playback trouble on a viewer’s side from a broadcaster-side upload failure. - Use the streaming computer and connection. Run an upload-speed test on the computer that sends the stream, not on a phone elsewhere in the home. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate.
- Repeat during the trouble period. Record the result at the time of day when interruptions usually happen. A single speed test is only a snapshot; it does not establish that an upload will remain stable for a long broadcast.
- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet. If the streaming computer uses Wi-Fi, temporarily connect it to the router by Ethernet and watch OBS and YouTube health again. OBS cautions that Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming and recommends a wired connection. A Cat6 cable is one option for this comparison, not a requirement.
- Control competing traffic for the test. Pause large uploads on the same connection, then compare the results. This isolates one possible source of congestion; it does not by itself prove the broadband provider is at fault.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends an upload test, while OBS advises lowering bitrate to fit stable upload capacity. A plan’s advertised download speed does not answer whether the connection can sustain the stream’s upload.

Choose a bitrate that leaves upload headroom
Pick the codec, resolution and frame rate first, then set the video bitrate to a level your connection can sustain consistently. YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists these figures; the table is not a broadband-plan recommendation or a promise of uninterrupted streaming. YouTube’s page does not show a publication date.
| H.264 video setting | YouTube recommended bitrate | YouTube minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are H.264 figures. YouTube lists different bitrate guidance for AV1 and H.265, so do not apply the H.264 numbers to those codecs. Keep headroom beneath the upload rate shown to be stable in your tests, and monitor stream health after changing the setting. OBS’s 2024 connection guide suggests starting at 75% of total upload speed when troubleshooting bitrate. That is an OBS heuristic, not a YouTube rule or a guarantee for a 24/7 broadcast.

Correct encoder settings flagged by YouTube
YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. In Live Control Room, follow the specific error shown. YouTube’s error guidance identifies possible configuration problems including bitrate, audio or video format, resolution, frame rate and keyframe frequency.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room and check the stream-health message or error.
- In your encoder, correct the setting named by the error. For keyframes, use a two-second interval unless YouTube’s current guidance or a specific workflow indicates otherwise.
- Run a test with audio and movement similar to the actual music stream, then watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and YouTube stream health.
Changing several settings at once makes it harder to identify which change helped. YouTube advises monitoring stream health during the event and testing with comparable audio and movement. YouTube Live encoder settings · YouTube Live error messages
When to contact your broadband provider
If the stream still drops over Ethernet with a bitrate below what your connection sustains and YouTube’s configuration errors have been addressed, give the ISP evidence tied to the failure rather than relying on a general speed-test result.

- YouTube Live Control Room’s health status and exact error text.
- Upload-test results from the streaming computer, including tests during the usual problem period.
- Whether the same test behaved differently over Ethernet and Wi-Fi, and whether another service behaved differently at the same time.
Ask the provider to investigate the connection during those periods. OBS notes that network-route congestion or changes outside the broadcaster’s control can affect the connection. These checks do not establish a fault with any particular Indian ISP, city, plan or broadband service.
