If your 24/7 YouTube lesson stream goes silent only between videos, first find where the silence starts: check the lesson files, encoder audio meter and preview, local archive, then YouTube playback. That shows whether the gap is in the media, the encoder’s audio routing, or only the viewer’s playback. Don’t buy equipment or change network settings until those checks point to a cause.

1. Find where the silence begins

Check the same transition at the end of one lesson and the start of the next in each available place. YouTube recommends checking the encoder output and local archive when stream quality is wrong, and continuously monitoring audio and video. YouTube streaming tips also recommend testing and previewing the setup before going live.

  1. Play both source lesson files locally. Listen through the end of the first file and the beginning of the next. If either is silent at the relevant point, the stream encoder cannot restore audio that is absent from the media. Edit or replace the affected file, or adjust the playlist transition, then test again.
  2. Check the encoder’s audio meter and preview. Watch during a lesson and through the silent interval. Note whether the meter falls to zero, and whether the preview loses sound at the same moment.
  3. Listen to the local archive, if available. Compare the archived transition with the source and preview. This helps distinguish a source or encoder issue from a problem limited to public playback.
  4. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health. Note any audio or encoding message. YouTube’s live-stream error messages include “Your encoder is sending no audio.”
  5. Check the public YouTube player. If the preview and archive have sound but viewers hear silence, test playback on another supported device. If the issue persists there, send feedback to YouTube; the available troubleshooting guidance does not establish that YouTube itself caused this symptom.

2. Match the symptom to the likely fault

What you observe What to check next What it suggests
The source lesson is silent at the boundary. Edit or replace the file, or change its ending or playlist transition. The silence is in the media. This is a diagnostic inference to verify, not a diagnosis of your particular stream.
The file has sound, but the encoder meter drops at the boundary. Inspect source switching, audio-track assignment, and routing for the source that should supply sound. The encoder may not be sending audio at that point. YouTube identifies missing ingest audio as an encoder-side issue. YouTube’s error guidance
The encoder preview or archive is also silent. Compare the source files and encoder routing; check the Live Control Room messages. The problem occurs before public playback.
The preview and archive have sound, but the public player does not. Try another supported device and report persistent playback trouble to YouTube. The available guidance does not establish the cause as a platform defect. YouTube live-stream troubleshooting
Audio and video stutter, frames drop, or the stream disconnects as well. Check stream health, outbound connection, server selection, and bitrate. Those additional symptoms can indicate a connection problem; they are different from silence only at lesson boundaries.

3. Check the encoder’s audio configuration

If the files contain sound but the outgoing stream does not, verify that the encoder is sending an audio source and that the intended audio track is enabled. YouTube advises providing one audio stream and enabling audio in encoders that have an audio checkbox. Its standard ingestion guidance lists H.264 video and AAC audio. Follow the Live Control Room message if it reports an encoding error rather than changing codecs without a reason. YouTube live-stream error messages

  • Confirm that the expected audio source is active while each lesson plays and during the transition.
  • Check that the source is assigned to the audio track actually sent to YouTube.
  • If audio disappears exactly when the playlist switches files, inspect how the encoder or playback software switches sources and routes audio at that boundary.
  • Use the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages to determine whether YouTube is receiving audio. A silent meter or a missing-audio message points you back to the encoder and its source configuration.

4. When to investigate the connection

Do not treat network congestion as the established cause of silence that occurs only between videos. Investigate the connection when there are accompanying dropped frames, buffering, or intermittent disconnections. OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as connection-stability symptoms; its guidance recommends checking server selection and reducing bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. If source and routing checks look healthy but the problem continues, YouTube suggests trying a different encoder. Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream

5. Avoid buying gear before the checks point to it

A silent transition alone does not establish a faulty cable, headset, mixer, or audio interface. YouTube advises checking the connected equipment and encoder configuration, with equipment choices depending on the setup. Streaming tips · Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
