To find the best price for a new video game, compare the same title, platform, edition, and format across multiple stores, then check price history and the final checkout total. A low headline price is only a good deal if the listing is available, matches what you want, and comes from a seller you’re comfortable buying from.
Match the game and version before comparing prices
Start by writing down the exact game and the version you want. Offers can differ by platform, edition, and format, so a standard edition is not directly comparable with a deluxe edition, and a physical copy is not identical to a digital download or a key.

- Game and platform: Check the exact title and system, such as PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.
- Edition: Confirm whether you want the standard, deluxe, complete, or another edition. Check what add-ons or other content are included.
- Format: Identify whether the offer is a physical copy, a purchase from the platform’s digital store, or a key from another seller.
- Region: Confirm that the offer can be used in your country and with your platform account.

Check the platform’s own digital store and compare it with one or more retailer or price-comparison listings. ReadyGame advertises current prices, discounts, and historical lows. NEXARDA says it lists digital downloads, keys, and physical copies from more than 90 retailers, with daily offer updates. Those coverage and update details are the services’ own descriptions, not an independent guarantee that every listing is available or suitable for you.

Both services may show offers from different kinds of sellers. Check who is actually selling the game and what the offer includes. Their displayed prices may not include delivery or other checkout costs, and listings can change.
Use price history to judge whether to buy now
If you do not need the game immediately, compare its current price with the available price history. A historical low can help you judge whether today’s price looks relatively low, but it does not predict when—or whether—the same price will return. If the comparison service offers a watchlist or price alert, you can use it to monitor the game while you wait. Treat an alert as a prompt to recheck the offer, not a guarantee of stock or a particular checkout price.
Compare physical and digital copies on equal terms
Neither format is always cheaper. GamesRadar’s September 2026 guide to PS5 deals says digital PS5 games can be cheaper or more expensive depending on when and where a shopper looks. Compare the same game and edition in the same region before deciding.

A physical offer may involve delivery costs or limited stock. A digital purchase requires the relevant platform account and store, and availability may be region-bound. The GamesRadar guide names Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart as US retailer routes for PS5 games and discusses UK retailers separately; those examples are specific to that platform and geography, not a universal list of sellers. It also notes that major retailers may discount new releases near launch while the PlayStation Store keeps its price until a sale. Check the offer and your actual checkout total
Before buying, open the seller’s page and confirm the listing itself. Then check the total you will pay under your circumstances; a comparison page’s headline amount may not be the delivered or final price.

- Is it the exact game, platform, edition, and format you intended to buy?
- Is the item new, if you want a new-condition physical copy?
- Is it in stock, and what delivery date does the seller give?
- Who is the seller, and are you comfortable buying from that seller?
- What are the delivery charge and applicable taxes at checkout?
- Does the price depend on a membership, coupon, bundle, or other condition?
- For a digital purchase or key, can you redeem or use it in your region?
Choose the best offer for your priorities
The lowest displayed price is not automatically the best offer. Decide what matters most—lowest delivered cost, quick delivery, a preferred format, or a retailer you trust—and compare matching offers against that priority. There is no single best retailer for every game, country, platform, and buyer.
For context, Boston Consulting Group’s 2025 Global Gaming Survey (N=2,972) found that about 65% of gamers have tactics to limit their spending. The same report described a nominal $70 standard-edition AAA full-game price in 2025 and projected $80 nominally for 2026.
