The most reliable way to find Steam sale dates is to check Valve’s official Steamworks “Upcoming Steam Events” schedule, then use a current calendar such as SteamDB to scan intervening festivals. To decide whether a discount is genuinely good, wishlist the game, enable Steam notifications, and compare the current price with the game’s regional price history rather than relying on the percentage shown on the store page.

As of October 13, 2026, Valve lists the 2026 Winter Sale for December 17, 2026 through January 4, 2027, followed by the 2027 Spring Sale (March 18–25) and Summer Sale (June 24–July 8). SteamDB’s calendar lists Steam Scream Fest V for October 26–November 2, 2026. Dates and participating games can change, so verify the official event page close to the event.

Confirmed Steam sale dates and the next listed festival

Valve says, “Four times a year, we run Steam-wide seasonal sale events.” The official schedule is the best authority for those large, store-wide promotions. The dates below are the events currently listed for the 2026–2027 cycle.

Event Dates currently listed Where the date comes from What it establishes
Steam Scream Fest V October 26–November 2, 2026 SteamDB calendar A themed event listed by a third-party calendar; confirm important details on Steam’s event pages.
2026 Winter Sale December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027 Valve Steamworks schedule An officially announced Steam-wide seasonal sale.
2027 Spring Sale March 18–25, 2027 Valve Steamworks schedule An officially listed seasonal-sale window.
2027 Summer Sale June 24–July 8, 2027 Valve Steamworks schedule An officially listed seasonal-sale window.

The calendar entry for Steam Scream Fest V is useful for spotting the next themed promotion, but it is not the same kind of primary announcement as Valve’s schedule. Treat it as a planning signal and check Steam’s own event information before assuming a date, participating title, or discount.

Use two calendars, for two different jobs

Valve’s official Steamworks schedule

Start with Valve’s Upcoming Steam Events page when you need an authoritative date. It is intended for developers and publishers, but it is also the clearest public list of announced seasonal sales and festivals. The page distinguishes scheduled events from information that has not yet been announced. A date shown there is the strongest confirmation available in the supplied sources.

Valve’s documentation also explains the cadence: four Steam-wide seasonal events each year. That statement tells you why a seasonal sale is likely to recur, but it does not give a specific future date beyond the windows Valve has actually published. Do not turn the four-event cadence into a promise that every individual game will be discounted at each event.

SteamDB’s calendar and history pages

Use the SteamDB sale calendar as a convenient, calendar-style view of upcoming sales and festivals. It currently places Steam Scream Fest V before the Winter Sale. Because this is a third-party listing, cross-check a date that matters to you against Steam’s own event page or the official schedule.

SteamDB also provides a game-by-game sale-history page. Its value is retrospective: it can show when a title was discounted and the price recorded at that time. It cannot know which games a publisher will include in an upcoming event or what their next prices will be. Use the calendar to locate an event, and the history page to put a current offer in context.

How to check the next Steam sale before you buy

  1. Open Valve’s schedule. Go to Upcoming Steam Events and look for the next listed seasonal sale or festival. Record the start and end dates in your own time-zone-aware calendar.
  2. Scan a second calendar. Open SteamDB’s calendar to see whether a themed event appears between the official seasonal windows. If the two sources differ, treat Valve’s published information as the authority and regard the third-party entry as unconfirmed until Steam provides matching information.
  3. Check again near the start date. Schedules can change. Revisit both pages close to the event rather than relying on a calendar entry saved months earlier.
  4. Open the store in your own region. A sale’s dates may be global while the displayed currency and price depend on the Steam region attached to your account. The available evidence does not establish one universal price, so make the purchase decision from the price you actually see.
  5. Check the game’s current page and history. Note the listed discount, your regional price, the offer’s end time shown by Steam, and the historical prices available through SteamDB’s history tools. These four observations are more useful than the discount percentage alone.

Seasonal sales versus themed festivals

Steam-wide seasonal sales

Seasonal sales are the four recurring, Steam-wide events described in Valve’s documentation. They are the broadest opportunities to compare many games at once, but “Steam-wide” does not mean every title receives a discount. Publishers choose their own participation and discount levels. The official schedule confirms the event window; it does not publish a guaranteed list of games or a universal markdown.

Themed festivals

Festivals focus attention on a theme or genre and can appear outside the four seasonal windows. Steam Scream Fest V is the next such event listed by SteamDB for October 26–November 2, 2026. A festival can be useful if you are shopping within its theme, but the calendar label alone does not prove that a particular game will be included or that its price will be lower than during a seasonal sale.

Unannounced events

If an event is absent from Valve’s schedule, do not present it as confirmed. A community calendar, social post, or recurring pattern can help you watch for news, but only an announced date should be entered as a firm deadline. This distinction prevents a planned purchase from being delayed for a sale that never receives an official date.

Make Steam’s wishlist work as a discount alert

Why wishlisting helps

Steamworks says that seasonal discounts of 20% or greater automatically trigger email notifications for players who have the game on their wishlist. The threshold is specifically documented for seasonal-sale notifications. It is not evidence that every discount, festival promotion, or publisher sale will send an email.

Set up a reliable wishlist routine

  1. Add each game you may buy to your Steam wishlist from its store page. Remove titles you no longer want so the list remains actionable.
  2. Open Steam’s notification settings and confirm that email notifications are enabled for wishlist price changes. The exact menu presentation can change between the desktop client, web store, and mobile app, so check the version you use most often.
  3. Verify the email address associated with your Steam account and make sure Steam messages are not being filtered into spam or a promotions folder.
  4. Before a seasonal sale, review the wishlist manually. An email is a prompt to investigate the offer, not a substitute for checking the current regional price and the sale’s end date.

A notification can arrive only after Steam records an eligible seasonal discount. If a game is reduced by less than 20%, is not part of the seasonal event, or has not been discounted at all, the documented seasonal-email rule does not promise an alert.

Read a discount instead of trusting the headline percentage

Record the four comparison values

For two or more candidate games, make a small comparison using the values that affect the actual decision:

Value to record Why it matters How to obtain it
Current regional price This is the amount your account is asked to pay, in your currency. Read the price on the Steam store page while signed into your own region.
Historical low or prior sale prices Shows whether the current offer resembles an earlier low price. Review the title’s records on SteamDB’s sale-history page.
Displayed discount percentage Indicates how the current price is presented against Steam’s reference price. Read the current store listing; do not treat the percentage as a prediction of a future offer.
Offer duration Determines how much time remains to decide and whether waiting is practical. Use the end date or countdown shown on the live Steam offer.

This method separates a genuinely low price from a large-looking percentage applied to a price that has previously been lower. It also makes two different games easier to compare when one has a smaller percentage reduction but a lower final price.

Use price history as context, not a forecast

SteamDB’s historical information can show when a game was discounted and what price was recorded. That history answers, “Has this title been cheaper before?” It does not answer, “Will this title be discounted at the next sale?” SteamDB explicitly notes that publishers set discounts and that future participation and prices cannot be known in advance. A previous pattern therefore supports a cautious expectation, never a guarantee.

Keep regional pricing attached to every number

Prices can differ by Steam region and currency. The available schedule and history information does not establish a universal global price. When you write down a historical low or compare two offers, label it with the region and currency displayed to you. Do not copy a price from a different country and present it as the amount every reader will see.

A practical buying decision framework

Buy now when the evidence is sufficient

Buying during the current offer is reasonable when the game is already on your wishlist, the displayed regional price fits your budget, the history page shows that the price is competitive for your region, and the remaining offer duration is clear. This is a decision based on a known price, not on an assumed future discount.

Wait for a listed event when the timing is more important

Waiting makes sense when you are close to an officially scheduled seasonal sale, the current price is materially above the title’s recorded lows, and you can accept that the game may not participate. The schedule tells you when to check again; it does not promise the discount you want.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not wait solely because of a calendar pattern

If the game is already at a price you consider acceptable and there is no official confirmation that it will be cheaper, delaying has an opportunity cost. A publisher may skip the next event or choose a smaller reduction. Use history to measure how often and how deeply the title has been discounted, while keeping the uncertainty visible.

What the published dates can—and cannot—tell you

What is established

  • Valve documents four Steam-wide seasonal sale events each year.
  • Valve’s current schedule lists the Winter, Spring, and Summer windows shown in the table above.
  • SteamDB’s calendar lists Steam Scream Fest V on October 26–November 2, 2026.
  • Steamworks documents automatic wishlist email notifications for seasonal discounts of 20% or greater.
  • SteamDB provides historical sale prices for context.

What is not established in advance

  • Which individual games will be discounted at the next event.
  • The exact percentage or final price a publisher will choose.
  • A single price that applies to every country or Steam currency.
  • That a game’s next discount will match its historical low.
  • That a third-party calendar entry will remain unchanged until the event begins.

Keeping these boundaries in view prevents the most common mistake: treating a schedule as if it were a catalog of guaranteed bargains.

A calendar workflow that prevents missed deals

Several weeks before an event

  • Review Valve’s schedule and SteamDB’s calendar, then mark the relevant start and end dates.
  • Clean up your wishlist and confirm that seasonal price-change emails are enabled.
  • For expensive or high-priority games, record the current regional price and a few historical sale prices.
  • Set a personal maximum price. This keeps the decision focused on affordability rather than on the visual size of the discount.

When the event opens

  1. Open the Steam store in your own account and region.
  2. Check whether each wishlisted title is actually discounted.
  3. Compare the final regional price and offer duration with your notes.
  4. Use the historical record to classify the offer as near a previous low, ordinary for that title, or higher than a price you are willing to pay.
  5. Buy only after confirming that the correct edition, bundle, or base game is in the cart; a sale banner alone does not identify which package is discounted.

Before the event ends

Recheck the end date shown on the live store page. Do not assume that a festival and a seasonal sale end simultaneously, or that a discounted price will remain after the displayed deadline. If you decide to wait, write down the reason—such as a price above your limit—so that you can reassess rationally at the next event.

Troubleshoot common problems

“I saw a sale listed, but the game is full price.”

The event may not include that title, the publisher may have chosen not to discount it, or the calendar entry may describe a festival rather than a store-wide promotion. Check the game’s live store page and do not infer participation from the event name.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“The email never arrived.”

Confirm that the game was on your wishlist before the seasonal discount was recorded, that the reduction meets the documented 20% threshold, and that Steam email notifications are enabled. Check spam filtering and the address connected to your account. These checks address the specific rule Valve documents; they do not guarantee an email for every type of promotion.

“The historical low is different from the price my friend sees.”

Compare regions and currencies before comparing numbers. A historical value from another region is not a valid benchmark for your account. Record the region beside every price you use.

“The date changed after I planned around it.”

Schedules can change. Reopen Valve’s official page and the current Steam event information near the date, then update your calendar. Avoid treating an old screenshot or an undated post as a final announcement.
