Look for a key labeled ScrLk or Scroll Lock. If your Dell laptop has no such dedicated key, the function may be assigned to an Fn shortcut—but the combination varies by model. Dell documents Fn+S on some Inspiron laptops and Fn+F6 on several Latitude models; neither is universal.
Check the keyboard for a Scroll Lock label
Inspect the key legends for “ScrLk” or “Scroll Lock.” On some keyboards, Scroll Lock is a secondary function printed on another key rather than a separate key. Dell notes that not every laptop keyboard includes every button, and you may need to hold Fn for a secondary function to work. See Dell’s keyboard troubleshooting and usage guide.
Use the shortcut documented for your Dell model
Dell’s model guides list different Scroll Lock shortcuts. These examples show why it is important to check the guide for your exact laptop rather than trying one combination across all Dell models.

Find your exact model and verify the shortcut
- Identify the model. Check the laptop’s support label, system information, or purchase documentation.
- Inspect the keyboard. Look for “ScrLk” or “Scroll Lock,” including labels printed as a secondary function on another key.
- Open the model’s Dell support page or manual. Check its keyboard or keyboard-shortcuts section for the Scroll Lock action.
- Press only the documented combination. If the guide shows an Fn shortcut, hold Fn while pressing the listed key. Do not assume a shortcut listed for another Dell model will work.
If your laptop has no accessible Scroll Lock key
A USB keyboard with a dedicated Scroll Lock key is an optional physical workaround. Check its layout before buying: not all keyboards include every key, as Dell’s keyboard guide cautions.
