Google promises seven years of operating-system and security updates for Pixel 8 and later, and five years for Pixel 6 and 7 generation phones and the original Pixel Fold. The clock starts when a model first became available on the Google Store in the US—not when you bought it. That makes the support end month an estimate based on the model’s launch availability.

Google’s current seven-year list includes Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a; Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold, 9a; Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a; and Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold. Google’s five-year list includes Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a; Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a; and Pixel Fold. Google’s update policy and model list are the authority for eligibility.
Google lists Pixel 5a with 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 4a, Pixel 4 and 4 XL, Pixel 3a and 3a XL, Pixel 3 and 3 XL, Pixel 2 and 2 XL, and Pixel and Pixel XL as no longer receiving Android-version or security updates.

The months below are arithmetic estimates using Google’s stated support duration and its month-and-year availability data for the US Google Store. Google does not publish an exact final-update day in these tables, so treat these as planning estimates rather than deadlines.

Availability dates come from Google’s Pixel device availability table; the support durations come from Google’s update policy. The US Store availability rule matters even if you purchased the phone later or in another market.
What Pixel software updates include
Google says Pixel updates can include new features, security enhancements, operating-system updates, bug fixes, and more. The five- and seven-year commitments specifically cover OS and security updates. Pixel Drops may also bring new or upgraded features, but they are distinct from the core duration promise.

Why an update may not arrive on the same day
A support commitment does not mean every eligible phone receives each release simultaneously. Google says rollouts are gradual, vary by carrier and device, and may take a few weeks to reach a phone. An absent update immediately after an announcement does not by itself mean the model has reached the end of its support period.
How to check for an update on your Pixel
- Open Settings.
- Tap System, then Software update.
- Review the update status and follow any steps shown on the screen.
Google says this screen reports the phone’s update status and any steps to follow. To estimate the model’s support window, identify its first US Google Store availability month, then apply the five- or seven-year commitment for its generation.
