To watch a replay of a League of Legends match you played, open the League client, find the match in Match History, download its replay if it is still available, then open it in the client. Since Patch 26.20, Riot limits replay access to matches you personally played; other players and third-party apps or sites cannot download replay files. Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes confirm that you can still download and watch your own matches in the League client.

Find and watch your own replay in the League client

  1. Open the League of Legends client and go to Match History.
  2. Find the match you want to review. Riot’s archived 2017 replay guide identifies Match History as a replay entry point, but its interface instructions are historical and may not match the current client exactly.
  3. If the client offers a replay download for that match, download it.
  4. Open the downloaded replay in the League client to watch the game.

Riot also documented downloading a replay from the end-of-game screen in its 2017 guide. Treat that as historical guidance, not a guaranteed current control or route: Riot’s October 2026 patch notes confirm client playback for your own matches but do not specify every current menu label or click.

Which matches can you replay?

Starting with Patch 26.20, replay access is limited to matches you played. You cannot download another player’s replay, and third-party apps and websites can no longer download replay files. Riot says the change accompanies limits on third-party access to game memory intended to address security vulnerabilities used to build unauthorized League tools. The change does not remove your ability to download and watch your own matches in the League client.

Riot Support’s September 29, 2026 explanation says unknown third-party applications will be proactively prevented from accessing game memory by default beginning October 6, 2026. Riot gives currently approved tools a grace period until April 2027 to move affected features to approved API mechanisms, request API data, or discontinue features without a suitable alternative. Riot does not guarantee that any particular app will continue to work, so do not rely on an older third-party replay-download tool.

Save a shareable video clip

A replay is viewed in the League client; a video file is a separate output you can share. Riot’s archived 2017 guide describes using the built-in recording controls to save highlights as video files, as well as an annotated timeline marking kills and major objectives. Those controls and details may have changed, so use the recording options currently shown by your client rather than assuming the historical workflow is unchanged.

How long are replays available?

Riot’s Patch 14.6 notes in March 2024 said replay storage would return to approximately 14 days after a temporary system update. Patch 26.20 does not state a current retention period, so 14 days should not be treated as a guaranteed present-day limit. Download a replay promptly while the client still offers it.

The 2017 guide also said replays could be downloaded during the patch on which the match was played. That is an archived policy statement; Riot’s October 2026 notes do not confirm whether patch compatibility or expiration rules remain the same. Patch 14.6 notes provide the older storage-duration context.

Why old replay instructions may not work

Browser match-history pages

Riot retired its standalone web Match History site in September 2021 and said the League client would retain a Match History page. Riot’s retirement announcement explains why older browser-based instructions may no longer apply. Match-history records on other sites are not evidence that those sites can download a replay file.

Riot API and third-party sites

Riot announced replay access through its API in Patch 25.23, but the later Patch 26.20 restriction says third-party apps and sites lose access to replay downloads. The Developer Portal API index lists League match and spectator endpoints; that listing does not establish that those endpoints provide downloadable replay files under the newer policy. Match data and replay-file downloads are different things.

Riot Mobile

Riot Mobile’s support page documents recent activity, match history, and esports VOD viewing. Match-history information refreshes intermittently, and the page does not document downloading or playing your personal match replay in Riot Mobile. Use the League client for your own replay.
