The authorized way to listen to Nintendo game music is Nintendo Music, Nintendo’s soundtrack service for Nintendo Switch Online members. You can use it on a compatible phone or tablet, or in a computer web browser; the mobile app also supports downloads for offline listening. A Nintendo Switch console is not required, but you do need a Nintendo Account, an eligible Nintendo Switch Online membership, a supported region and a compatible device. Nintendo also supports playback through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Start by previewing the catalog in a browser, confirm that the service is available in your country, then install the official app or sign in on the web. Use Nintendo’s own service—or a specific release that Nintendo or an identified licensee clearly presents as authorized—rather than assuming that a searchable fan upload is licensed.
What Nintendo Music is and what you need
Nintendo Music is Nintendo’s official service for listening to music from Nintendo games. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described it as a smart-device application for Nintendo Switch Online members and called game music “a valuable and important form of Nintendo IP” in Nintendo’s 85th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders Q&A (Nintendo, 2025 shareholder Q&A).
Access is included with Nintendo Switch Online membership rather than sold as a separate music subscription. “Included” does not mean universally free: Nintendo requires a Nintendo Account and a qualifying membership. The price, renewal schedule and available plans depend on your country and the terms shown for your account.

A Nintendo Switch console is optional
Nintendo says you do not need to own a Switch console. You do need a Nintendo Account, a compatible mobile device or computer browser, an eligible Nintendo Switch Online membership and a country where Nintendo Music is offered.
Supported devices and listening modes
- Phone or tablet: Install Nintendo Music from the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The app streams music and can download tracks for offline playback.
- Computer: Use Nintendo’s music web service in a supported browser. The web page lets visitors preview the library without membership; membership is required for full use.
- Car: Nintendo announced Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, including voice controls for playback and playlist functions. Feature availability can depend on the vehicle, phone and software versions.
Nintendo’s US service page reported more than 250 hours of music from over 130 titles when accessed in October 2026. That is a changing page-level figure, not a permanent or independently audited catalog total; Nintendo can add titles and change the number of hours.
Check the catalog and regional availability first
Preview the library without subscribing
Open the Nintendo Music service page on a computer and browse the available games and tracks. Nintendo says the browser library can be previewed without membership, which lets you check whether the games you care about are represented before you commit to a membership.

Do not treat the reported “over 250 hours” or “over 130 titles” as a promise that every Nintendo game has a soundtrack. Catalog coverage is title-specific and can change. Search for the exact game in the current library rather than assuming that a famous series, region-exclusive release or older cartridge is included.
Verify your country
Nintendo Support’s regional list, updated June 2, 2026, identifies where Nintendo Music is available and says additional regions may be added. Check Nintendo’s current regional-availability page before joining Nintendo Switch Online for this purpose. A membership purchased in one country does not guarantee that the music service is available when you are elsewhere, and support can differ by account region.

Set up Nintendo Music on a phone or tablet
The mobile app is the best choice when you want offline playback, downloads or listening away from a computer. Follow this sequence:
- Confirm eligibility. Check Nintendo’s regional list and make sure the Nintendo Account you intend to use has a Nintendo Switch Online membership. If you are considering a trial, read the terms displayed for your country and account first.
- Install the official app. Find “Nintendo Music” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Check that the publisher is Nintendo and avoid similarly named third-party apps.
- Sign in with your Nintendo Account. Use the account attached to the eligible Nintendo Switch Online membership. If the app reports that you are not eligible, verify that you did not sign in with a different account.
- Browse or search. Use the catalog to open a game, album or playlist. The exact games and track lists shown are the authoritative indication of what is currently available to your account and region.
- Stream a track. Start playback while connected to the internet. The app may need to check your membership periodically, even when you usually listen offline.
- Download for offline listening. Use the download control on the track, album or playlist supplied by the app. Leave the app open long enough for the transfer to finish, then test playback with your device in airplane mode or without a data connection.
- Manage storage. Remove downloads you no longer need from the app’s download controls if your phone or tablet is short on space. Downloaded music is app-managed; it is not a normal audio file that you can copy to another player.
Keep the app and your device’s operating system current. If a download fails, reconnect to a stable network, check available storage and retry from the app rather than looking for a separate file.
Listen in a computer browser
On a computer, open Nintendo’s music web service and sign in with the Nintendo Account that has Nintendo Switch Online. The larger screen is useful for browsing albums, searching the catalog and managing playback while you work.
The browser is also the easiest way to inspect the catalog before membership: Nintendo allows visitors to preview the library without signing in as a member. Preview access should not be confused with full listening access. Nintendo describes streaming and offline downloads for the mobile app, not offline browser downloads. Plan on an internet connection for computer listening and use the app when you need travel playback.
If the site does not recognize your membership, sign out of other Nintendo accounts in the browser, sign in again to the account that owns the membership and check that the membership has not expired. A private browsing window can help isolate an account-session problem, but it does not bypass regional or membership requirements.

Download music for offline listening
Offline listening is an app feature. After selecting a track, album or playlist, tap the app’s download control and wait for completion on Wi-Fi if you want to avoid mobile-data charges. Test a downloaded selection before leaving coverage; a track that is only queued or partially downloaded may still require a connection.

If the app asks you to sign in again, connect briefly to the internet and authenticate. Deleting the app, clearing its data or changing accounts can remove locally stored downloads, so do not treat them as a permanent backup of the soundtrack.
Use Nintendo Music in a car
Nintendo’s June 2026 update added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. With a compatible phone and vehicle, you can play Nintendo Music through the car system and use supported voice commands for playback and playlist control. Read the Nintendo announcement for the feature description and current device details.
Pair and configure the phone before driving. Nintendo warns against operating a touchscreen while the vehicle is moving: start playback, choose a playlist and make other selections when safely parked, then use the vehicle’s approved hands-free controls.
What “legally” means for Nintendo soundtrack listening
Use a source that is clearly authorized
The safest everyday rule is simple: use Nintendo Music or a particular soundtrack release that Nintendo or a clearly identified licensee presents as authorized. An official Nintendo page, an established publisher’s release information or a store listing tied to a named rights holder provides a stronger basis than an anonymous upload.

Nintendo’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ explains that copyright covers music and other expressive works and gives the copyright owner exclusive rights over acts such as reproduction, derivative copying, public performance, transmission and distribution. Those rights are why a listener should distinguish an authorized service from an upload that merely happens to be playable.
Why search results and fan uploads are not proof of permission
A video, stream or playlist on a third-party platform may be visible because a rights holder licensed it, because a platform has a separate agreement, because a user uploaded it, or because enforcement has not occurred. The fact that it can be found or played does not establish that Nintendo authorized it. The available sources do not establish the legal status of every individual upload, nor do they resolve every national copyright exception, so avoid declaring that every fan upload is automatically infringing.
Nintendo’s Game Content Guidelines for Online Video & Image Sharing Platforms identify unauthorized use of Nintendo music as outside those guidelines and state that Nintendo cannot provide legal advice. For a personal listening decision, that means choosing the official service or verifying a specific licensed release instead of relying on platform search visibility.
Personal listening is different from redistribution
Listening through Nintendo Music is the use Nintendo designed the service to provide. Copying tracks out of the app, re-uploading them, distributing downloads or using the music in a public project raises different copyright questions. If you are making a video, stream, podcast, game, event or commercial project, review the applicable license and local law; a Nintendo Music membership is not a blanket redistribution license.

The practical comparison is therefore not between rival “Nintendo soundtrack services.” It is between Nintendo’s app, Nintendo’s browser experience, supported in-car playback and a specific physical release whose authorization you can establish. Check five things before choosing: rights-holder authorization, membership requirement, country and device support, offline capability and whether the exact game is in the current catalog.

Membership, trials and renewal terms
Nintendo’s US service page describes a seven-day Nintendo Switch Online free trial, subject to eligibility and regional terms. For the US page, Nintendo says the trial automatically becomes a one-month renewing membership at the then-current price unless it is canceled. Your account may show different conditions, so read the checkout and trial screens for your country rather than relying on a US description.
Set a reminder before the trial ends if you do not want renewal, and use Nintendo’s account-management controls to cancel according to the terms shown there. The trial is an access route to Nintendo Switch Online, not a separate permanent free tier of Nintendo Music.
If a particular game is missing
First, search the current Nintendo Music catalog by the exact game name and check whether the music appears under a series, collection or alternate regional title. Catalog size changes as Nintendo adds music, but there is no basis for promising that every game or every regional version is included.

If the title is absent, do not substitute an unverified upload and call it an authorized alternative. Look for a release that Nintendo or a named licensee explicitly identifies as official, and verify the edition, publisher and territory. The absence of a listing in Nintendo Music does not by itself prove that no licensed release exists anywhere; it only means the title was not found in the service catalog you checked.
Troubleshooting common access problems
“Nintendo Music is not available in my country”
- Check Nintendo Support’s current regional list and its update date.
- Confirm the country or region associated with your Nintendo Account.
- Do not use a VPN or a mismatched account region as a substitute for official availability; it can create account, payment or support problems.
“The app says I need a membership”
- Verify that you signed in with the Nintendo Account that owns Nintendo Switch Online.
- Check the membership’s expiration date and plan eligibility.
- Sign out and back in after renewing or changing the account, then update the app.
“A download will not finish”
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and keep the device awake until the download completes.
- Check free storage and remove unused downloads inside the app.
- Retry the same track, then test it offline before relying on it during travel.
“CarPlay or Android Auto does not show Nintendo Music”
- Update the Nintendo Music app and the phone’s operating system.
- Reconnect the phone using the vehicle’s supported connection method and check that the vehicle supports the relevant platform.
- Configure playlists and permissions while parked; use approved voice or vehicle controls once moving.
“The browser works, but offline playback does not”
Nintendo describes offline downloads for the mobile app, not the computer browser. Use the app for downloaded listening rather than expecting browser audio to remain available after you disconnect.
