Set up automatic word filtering in Streamlabs

Sign in to Streamlabs and open Streaming essentials > Alert Box.

In the Alert Box general settings, enable Profanity Filter. Add the words or phrases you want to block under the custom bad-words setting. Streamlabs describes using its standard list, a custom list, or both. See Streamlabs’ current alert setup guide.

Choose how matching text should be handled. Streamlabs’ filter instructions describe censoring matching words or disabling alerts that contain them. Censoring can preserve the event notification while obscuring the word; disabling the alert can hide the entire notification, including a legitimate follow or subscription. The exact labels may change, so confirm the available behavior in your dashboard. See Streamlabs’ profanity-filter instructions.

Save the settings, then use the dashboard preview or test controls to check that the chosen behavior suits your alerts before relying on it during a live stream. Streamlabs’ setup guide instructs creators to save their settings.
Be cautious with broad or short terms: a blocked word can also appear inside an ordinary message. Streamlabs specifically advises caution when banning words that could be part of a normal message.

Choose between filtering and approval

Streamlabs documents alert moderation that holds alerts for approval, with regular or unlimited approval-delay options in its setup instructions. Use it when a person needs to decide whether the wording is appropriate rather than relying only on a word list. See Streamlabs’ alert setup instructions. The available sources do not report measured accuracy or effectiveness for either approach.
Alert filtering is separate from live-chat moderation
A platform’s chat moderation controls do not necessarily filter text displayed by a third-party alert overlay. Streamlabs documents a filter for Alert Box text. YouTube separately provides a blocked-words list for live chat in YouTube Studio, while Twitch documents AutoMod and permitted or blocked terms for chat. Configure the control that matches where the text appears:
