For a quick PDF change on iPhone—filling a form field, adding a signature, or annotating a page—open the file in Apple’s Preview app. The steps can take under a minute when the PDF is ready and the change is small, but Apple does not guarantee a completion time. Preview’s documented workflow is for forms and annotations, not rewriting existing paragraph text in a PDF.
Fill or sign a PDF in Preview

Open the PDF in Preview. If it is in another app, use that app’s sharing or open-in options to send it to Preview or save it in Files first; the handoff varies by app and iOS version. Apple’s iPhone guide to Preview covers opening and working with PDFs.

For a fillable form, tap Form Filling, then tap a field and type your answer. See Apple’s Preview instructions for filling out forms.

To add a signature or text where the PDF has no form field, tap Add and choose the signature or text-box option. Position it on the page and adjust it as needed. Apple explains how to sign documents on iPhone.

Save, export, or share the completed PDF. Before sending it, reopen the saved copy and check that the text and signature appear in the right places, particularly in a multipage form.
Mark up or highlight a PDF
For comments, drawing, or visual emphasis rather than form entry, use Markup in an app that supports it. Open Markup, then choose a drawing tool such as the pen, marker, or pencil. You can adjust the tool’s appearance and annotate the page; where text selection is supported, you can also highlight or underline text. Apple’s Markup guide describes the available tools.

Choose the built-in tool that matches the job

When these steps are not enough
Preview’s documented quick workflow is a good fit for form fields, signatures, and annotations. It does not establish that you can change the original typed paragraphs or comprehensively revise a complex page layout. A secured or restricted file may also prevent the change you want. If the document needs substantive text or layout editing, the built-in steps here may not meet that need.

Exporting a note that contains a multipage PDF or scanned-document attachment does not necessarily preserve every page of that attachment: Apple says the exported note PDF includes only the first page of the original attachment. Do not use that export as a replacement for the original multipage PDF without opening the result and confirming that all required pages are present. If a control is missing
Apple’s instructions reflect its current iPhone User Guide, and the interface can vary with the iOS version installed. Check for an iOS update and look for the corresponding controls in the app on your device. If the PDF opens in a different app, use that app’s sharing options to move it into Preview or Files before continuing.
