On Android, use your device’s screen lock—such as its PIN, password, or passcode—as the fallback when Chrome cannot verify your fingerprint or face. If Chrome does not offer the saved login automatically, tap Passwords above the keyboard and choose the account. These steps apply to Android; desktop Chrome has different biometric settings.
Use your Android screen lock to approve password filling
- In Chrome, open the site’s sign-in page and tap the username field. Google notes that signing in with a saved password may require your fingerprint or passcode. Google Account Help: Manage passwords in Chrome — Android
- If fingerprint or face verification fails and Chrome offers another method, authenticate with the screen lock configured on your device. Chrome can use a fingerprint, face, or another screen lock for sensitive-information re-authentication. If biometrics are unsupported, Google says Chrome uses the device’s default screen lock, such as a password or passcode. Google Chrome Help: Fill in forms automatically in Chrome — Android
On Android, Google Password Manager also relies on the device’s screen lock to access saved passwords and passkeys. Google Chrome Help: Manage passkeys in Chrome — Android
If Chrome does not show the saved-password suggestion
Choose the account manually
If no suggestion appears above the keyboard, tap Passwords and select the saved account for the site. This can help when autofill does not suggest a credential; a missing suggestion alone does not establish that the password was deleted. Search for the site or app in Google Password Manager, or visit passwords.google.com. Confirm that the entry matches the sign-in page and that Chrome is using the Google Account where the password was saved. Passwords in the same Google Account can be managed in Chrome, Android Google Password Manager, or passwords.google.com. Google Chrome Help: Use passwords & passkeys across your devices — Android

Review Chrome’s extra verification setting
On Android, open Chrome Settings > Passwords and autofill > Autofill settings and look for Verify it’s you when filling sensitive info. Google says this additional authentication is on by default unless turned off. Turning it off removes the screen-lock or biometric verification prompt for sensitive autofill, but also removes that extra protection. Try the screen-lock fallback before changing this setting. Desktop Chrome uses different biometric controls
Do not apply the Android settings path to a computer. In desktop Chrome’s password manager, the separate biometric option is called Use Windows Hello when filling passwords on PC and Use your screen lock when filling passwords on Mac. Google says this desktop option is off by default. Google Chrome Help: Manage passwords in Chrome — Computer
