Estimate Cybertruck ownership over the time you expect to keep it—not from the sticker price alone. Add the configured purchase price, taxes and fees, loan interest, insurance, charging, maintenance and repairs; then account for resale proceeds or, using a depreciation method, the vehicle’s loss in value. Your mileage, location, financing and charging habits determine the result.
Start with a benchmark, not a personal quote
Edmunds’ 2026 True Cost to Own estimate is a useful point of comparison: it puts five-year ownership of its selected 2026 Cybertruck Crew Cab Dual Motor at $85,724, assuming 15,000 miles per year. The same page lists $93,125 for Premium and $111,577 for Cyberbeast. These are Edmunds estimates under its own assumptions, not guaranteed costs or individualized quotes. Edmunds’ 2026 Tesla Cybertruck True Cost to Own.
For the selected Dual Motor, Edmunds reports these five-year categories: depreciation, $37,961; taxes and fees, $11,394; financing, $17,204; fuel, $5,310; insurance, $8,124; repairs, $2,326; and maintenance, $3,405. The page also displays a $84,985 total cash price. These figures describe that estimator’s configuration and assumptions, not a budget to copy without adjustment.
Edmunds says its estimate assumes traditional financing, 10% down, a 60-month loan, above-average credit and 15,000 miles per year. Its methodology includes depreciation, financing, taxes and fees, insurance, fuel, maintenance and repairs. Edmunds describes the tool as “a comparative tool, not a predictive tool”; the estimate can differ from your costs, including because of driving history and mileage. Its displayed ownership estimate excludes federal EV tax credits.

Build your estimate around your use
1. Choose a holding period and annual mileage
Decide how many years you expect to own the truck and estimate the miles you will drive each year. Mileage affects energy use, tire wear and resale value. Towing, off-road driving, local climate and driving style can also affect energy use or service needs, so do not assume a published 15,000-mile estimate fits your use.
2. Price the exact configuration and location
Record the trim and options you want, plus destination and order charges. At the time of access on October 4, 2026, Tesla’s configuration page listed Premium All-Wheel Drive at $79,990 and showed an estimated purchase price of $82,235 after a $1,995 destination fee and $250 order fee. These live-page amounts are a snapshot, not a substitute for your own transaction total; recheck the configuration page and calculate local tax, registration and other applicable fees. If you plan to charge at home, treat the charger and any electrical work as setup costs rather than part of the truck’s listed price. Tesla’s page listed a $570 Universal Home Charger at access; installation requires a quote from a certified installer, and equipment pricing may change.
3. Separate financing interest from vehicle value
Use your actual down payment, annual percentage rate (APR) and loan term. For a cost-of-ownership calculation that includes depreciation, count loan interest as a cost but do not add the full principal paid as another cost: the principal finances the vehicle, whose purchase price and resale value are already reflected in depreciation. This avoids counting the same capital twice. Edmunds reports financing separately from depreciation in its estimate.

4. Get an insurance quote for your circumstances
Request a quote for the specific truck, address, drivers, coverage limits and deductibles you expect to use. Insurer, location and driving history affect premiums. Edmunds’ $8,124 five-year insurance figure is an estimate for its assumptions, not a personal quote.
5. Estimate charging from your rates and charging mix
Use your local residential electricity rate and estimate what share of charging will be at home versus paid public chargers. Tesla’s page offers an electricity-cost input in its gas-savings calculator, but it does not establish your utility rate or a universal annual Cybertruck charging bill. Include any home-charging setup cost separately from recurring electricity.

6. Budget for maintenance, tires and repairs
Tesla recommends rotating Cybertruck tires every 6,250 miles (10,000 km), or when the tread-depth difference reaches 2/32 inch (1.5 mm) or more since the last rotation, whichever comes first. Its guidance also lists brake-fluid health checks every four years; HEPA filter replacement every two years, or yearly for off-road or dirt-road use; annual wiper-blade replacement; and annual or 12,500-mile brake-caliper cleaning and lubrication in areas where roads are salted in winter. Tesla says circumstances can change service frequency and that the listed intervals are not comprehensive. Check the current guidance for your vehicle: Cybertruck Vehicle Service Intervals and Cybertruck Inspecting and Maintaining Tires.
Use your expected use and local service costs to budget for tires, scheduled work and possible repairs. Edmunds’ repair and maintenance figures are estimates, not guarantees that a particular truck will incur those costs.

7. Model resale as an estimate, not a certainty
Estimate what the truck could sell for at the end of your holding period, and consider more than one resale scenario if the value is uncertain. Condition, mileage, market conditions and repair needs can affect the sale price. Edmunds’ depreciation estimate is not a guaranteed resale value.
8. Add only taxes and incentives that apply to you
Taxes and registration depend on where you buy and register the truck. Check current incentive rules for your location, purchase date and circumstances; do not subtract a credit unless you have confirmed eligibility. Edmunds’ displayed estimate does not include federal EV tax credits.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose one accounting method and avoid double-counting
You can estimate ownership using either a cash-flow method or a depreciation method. Keep the method consistent: do not subtract resale proceeds and also count depreciation for the same vehicle value.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Method | Calculation | How to handle vehicle principal |
|---|---|---|
| Cash-flow | Purchase outlay + financing interest + taxes and fees + insurance + charging + maintenance + repairs − resale proceeds − confirmed incentives | Include the purchase outlay and subtract expected resale proceeds. |
| Depreciation-based | Depreciation (purchase cost, net of relevant taxes and fees, minus estimated resale value) + financing interest + insurance + charging + maintenance + repairs − confirmed incentives | Do not add the full purchase principal again; the loss in value is represented by depreciation. |
Edmunds uses a depreciation-based approach: it treats depreciation as the reduction from purchase price to estimated resale value, while reporting interest and other costs separately.
Compare trims or alternatives on equal terms
Hold the ownership period and annual mileage constant. Then compare each vehicle’s configured transaction price, financing terms, insurance quote, energy cost for your charging mix, maintenance and tire assumptions, estimated resale value, taxes and confirmed incentives. Edmunds’ different five-year totals for Dual Motor, Premium and Cyberbeast show why the trim and estimator assumptions need to match the comparison you are making.
