Estimate rented GPU inference by fixing the workload and time period, adding every charge for the configured service, then dividing the total by useful output. A GPU’s advertised hourly rate is only one line in that calculation: worker start-up and idle time, CPU and memory, storage, data transfer, networking, and applicable fees can all change the result.

1. Define the workload before comparing prices

A cost comparison is meaningful only when each option serves the same workload to the same standard. Record the inputs that determine how much hardware is needed and how much output counts as useful:

  • Model and serving setup: name the model, inference software or serving stack, and any relevant configuration.
  • Precision or quantization: specify the format you intend to run; it can affect memory needs, throughput, and output quality.
  • Quality and context: define the acceptable output quality and context length.
  • Traffic: estimate expected concurrency and when requests arrive, including scheduled peaks and quiet periods.
  • Service target: set the latency target and decide what counts as a completed, useful output.
  • Measurement period: choose a fixed period, such as a day, month, or representative workload window.

Without those inputs, a price comparison cannot establish how many workers are needed, how long they must run, or the cost per output.

2. Benchmark the intended serving setup

Test the model and serving stack on each candidate hardware option under the target concurrency and latency conditions. Record throughput and latency, then use the measured throughput to estimate the runtime needed for the chosen workload. Do not infer performance from a GPU name, memory size, or hourly rate alone: a lower hourly price can still mean a higher cost per useful output if the option takes longer or fails to meet the service target.

The provider pricing pages reviewed here do not supply a fair, same-workload performance benchmark across providers. They therefore cannot establish which provider is universally cheapest.

3. Choose a billing model that matches traffic

Compare the way each service bills against the actual worker schedule, not just its displayed GPU rate. Dedicated instances, committed or reserved capacity, Spot or interruptible capacity, and request-driven serverless services can expose different costs and operational trade-offs.

Dedicated GPU instances

A dedicated instance gives you a provisioned GPU environment. Estimate the hours it is billed while running, including time spent waiting for requests or otherwise idle. Check minimum billing units and whether the quoted GPU price excludes the rest of the machine configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Serverless inference

Request-driven serverless may scale workers to zero when they are not needed, but billing rules and worker start/stop behavior still matter. Runpod’s Serverless page, updated September 27, 2026, describes per-second billing from worker start until full stop, rounded up to the nearest second, and supports scale-to-zero workers: Runpod Serverless pricing. Use the actual worker lifecycle and request pattern in your estimate rather than treating serverless as automatically cost-free between requests.

Committed, reserved, and Spot capacity

Apply a discount only if the workload and contract qualify, and include the commitment period or interruption risk in the comparison. Google Cloud says Spot prices are dynamic and can change up to once every 30 days; its page describes discounts of 60–91% off corresponding on-demand prices for most machine types and GPUs. That is provider-wide language, not a guaranteed reduction for every GPU or region. Runpod says reserved capacity and contract pricing require an enterprise sales conversation on its pricing page, updated September 27, 2026: Runpod pricing.

4. Add the rest of the bill

Use the provider’s current calculator or tariff for the selected configuration. Google Cloud explicitly directs customers to its pricing calculator to estimate GPU and machine-type configuration costs, and notes that GPU prices vary by region: Google Cloud GPU pricing. For each candidate, include:

  • GPU and worker runtime: account for the billed duration, minimum billing unit, start-up time, and idle time.
  • Machine configuration: include CPU, RAM, and other configured resources if they are billed separately from the GPU.
  • Storage: include persistent or local storage required by the model, cache, or serving environment.
  • Data movement and networking: check the provider’s current charges for transfer and networking relevant to the workload.
  • Other charges: include applicable service fees and taxes for the region and account.

Do not fill unknown transfer fees, taxes, reliability costs, or other charges with guesses. Check the provider’s current calculator or tariff for the chosen region and configuration; if a value is not available, leave it as an explicit uncertainty in the estimate.

All-in period cost = GPU/worker runtime + machine configuration + storage + data transfer/networking + applicable fees and taxes

Then divide by the useful output actually delivered during that period:

Cost per useful output = all-in period cost ÷ useful outputs delivered

Choose the output unit that reflects the workload—for example, completed requests or tokens that meet the defined quality and latency target. Use the same unit and quality threshold for every option. If one candidate misses the target, its lower raw price does not make it an equivalent choice.

6. Compare provider rates as dated inputs, not a verdict

The following are displayed rates on the cited provider pages as reviewed in 2026. They are reference inputs, not all-in workload prices; confirm current regional availability and applicable conditions before using them.

Provider and offering Displayed rate Qualification
Google Cloud NVIDIA T4, on demand $0.35 per GPU-hour Google Cloud pricing page accessed in 2026; regional pricing, with machine configuration cost estimated separately in the calculator.
Google Cloud NVIDIA T4, one-year commitment $0.22 per GPU-hour Google Cloud pricing page accessed in 2026; commitment terms and configuration costs apply.
Google Cloud NVIDIA T4, three-year commitment $0.16 per GPU-hour Google Cloud pricing page accessed in 2026; commitment terms and configuration costs apply.
Runpod H100 PCIe $2.89 per hour Displayed on Runpod’s Cloud GPUs page updated August 27, 2026; check availability and applicable conditions.
Runpod H100 SXM $3.49 per hour Displayed on Runpod’s Cloud GPUs page updated August 27, 2026; check availability and applicable conditions.
Runpod H200 $4.59 per hour Displayed on Runpod’s Cloud GPUs page updated August 27, 2026; check availability and applicable conditions.
Runpod B300 $7.89 per hour Displayed on Runpod’s Cloud GPUs page updated August 27, 2026; check availability and applicable conditions.
Runpod Serverless, 16GB class From $0.58 per hour Runpod Serverless page updated September 27, 2026; per-second billing rounded up to the nearest second, from worker start to full stop.
Runpod Serverless, 280GB B300 class From $9.98 per hour Runpod Serverless page updated September 27, 2026; per-second billing rounded up to the nearest second, from worker start to full stop.

These rates are not directly comparable: the Google Cloud figures are for a T4 GPU and distinguish commitment terms, while the Runpod figures cover different GPU offerings and a separate serverless billing model. The listed figures do not show a matched machine configuration, measured throughput, or all ancillary charges, so they cannot determine cost per request or token on their own.

7. Make the final comparison like for like

For each candidate, prepare an estimate for the same period and use the same workload definition. Keep a dated record of the quoted prices and assumptions so the comparison remains interpretable when rates change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Does the option fit the model’s memory needs and deliver the measured throughput?
  • Does it meet the latency target at the expected concurrency?
  • How much billed time is useful work versus start-up or idle time, and what billing granularity applies?
  • Are CPU, RAM, storage, and data movement included or charged separately?
  • Are capacity, regional availability, or Spot interruption risks relevant to the schedule?
  • Do commitment discounts apply to this workload, and does their term fit the expected demand?
  • What is the resulting all-in cost per useful output under the benchmarked workload?

Use current provider calculators and tariffs for the actual region and configuration. Prices and availability can change, so date the comparison and recheck rates before committing.
