For a measured period, calculate RPM as estimated revenue ÷ views × 1,000. Match the revenue and views to the same date range and content scope—live stream, replay, or both. For a future period, estimate revenue and views separately from comparable periods on your own channel, then calculate low, base, and high scenarios. YouTube does not publish a universal RPM rate for 24/7 streams.
Choose what you are measuring
Before calculating, decide which content and dates the figure should cover. Use a consistent scope for both inputs:
- Live event: revenue and views attributed to the live stream over the selected dates.
- Replay: revenue and views attributed to the replay over the selected dates.
- Live event and replay together: include both in the revenue and views totals, without mixing in unrelated videos.
When available, use video-level reporting in YouTube Analytics to inspect revenue from live streams and their replays. A channel-wide figure can be useful for a channel-wide question, but it is not a like-for-like estimate for one stream.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics. Select the date range you want to measure.
- Choose the relevant stream or replay, or use a consistent channel-level scope if that is what you are evaluating.
- Read Estimated revenue and Views for that same scope and date range.
- Divide estimated revenue by views, then multiply by 1,000.
RPM = estimated revenue ÷ views × 1,000
For example, hypothetical revenue of $240 divided by 80,000 views, multiplied by 1,000, gives an RPM of $3. This is arithmetic to illustrate the formula, not a typical rate or earnings forecast.

Decide whether you want total RPM or an ads-only figure
YouTube defines RPM as creator revenue after YouTube’s revenue share per 1,000 views. Total RPM can include ads, YouTube Premium, channel memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. If you use total estimated revenue, label the result as total RPM.
If you want an ads-only measure, use estimated ad revenue instead and label it clearly as ads-only revenue per 1,000 views; it is not the same as YouTube’s total RPM. Keep the revenue definition consistent when comparing periods. YouTube’s RPM and revenue definitions are explained in its ad revenue analytics help page.

Do not substitute CPM, ad impressions, or monetized playbacks
These measures answer different questions and use different denominators:
- Views are the denominator in YouTube’s total RPM definition, including views that did not monetize.
- Ad impressions count ads shown, not video views. A playback can generate more than one ad impression.
- Monetized playbacks count playbacks where a viewer was shown at least one ad impression. They are not the denominator for total RPM.
- CPM describes advertiser cost per thousand ad impressions before YouTube’s revenue share. It does not establish creator revenue per thousand views.
Consequently, multiplying a CPM by hours streamed—or treating every view as an ad-supported playback—does not produce a reliable RPM estimate. The YouTube Analytics API metrics reference also distinguishes estimated net ad revenue from gross revenue and notes that estimated revenue metrics can be adjusted at month end and omit partner-served ads. Do not mix a gross advertiser figure with net creator revenue.

Forecast future RPM with channel-specific scenarios
A forecast is a scenario, not a guaranteed rate. Use comparable live-stream or replay periods from your own channel, keep the revenue definition consistent, and estimate views and revenue separately. Then apply the RPM formula to each scenario’s paired inputs.

Build the assumptions from periods that resemble the stream you are estimating. When comparing them, check whether each period covers the live event, replay, or both; its date range; audience geography and mix; ad revenue versus Premium or fan-funding contribution; and whether reported values may still be adjusted. Ad availability, viewer geography, Premium status, audience, and ad format can all affect revenue. YouTube lists these among reasons a view may not carry an ad, so a monetized channel does not mean every view earns ad revenue.

Compare dates carefully and revisit estimates
Estimated revenue may be adjusted, so an early figure and a later figure for the same period may differ. Recheck after reporting has had time to settle, and make clear whether the number is estimated or reflects a later adjusted state.
YouTube says its standardized view-counting definition applies across Live and other formats from August 24, 2026. Comparisons that cross that date may need care because the counting basis changed; avoid reading a difference in views or RPM as a change in monetization alone.
