There is no single “Cloudflare data platform” meter, so a defensible monthly estimate starts with the products in your proposed architecture and the usage each one bills. Forecast Workers requests and CPU time, D1 reads, writes and storage, R2 storage and operations, Pipelines transforms and sink output, then apply the allowances and rates for your plan and billing period. A workload-specific estimate is more useful than a generic monthly price.
What determines the monthly cost?
Your estimate should include both fixed plan charges and usage charges. List every Cloudflare product in the migration—such as Workers, D1, R2 and Pipelines—and any other metered service in the request or data path. Record the account plan, geography where relevant, billing interval and any Enterprise contract terms. Enterprise pricing can differ from public rates.
Cloudflare identifies numerous products with usage-based billing, including Workers, Observability, R2, Stream, Images, Spectrum, Zero Trust, Vectorize and Analytics Engine. Check the usage-based billing documentation for the current service list and dashboard guidance. Do not assume that one product’s allowance, renewal date or free-tier rules apply to another.
Build a monthly workload inventory
Use a representative month, not just the size of the dataset being moved. Raw data volume does not tell you how many requests, rows scanned, writes, operations or transformed bytes will be billed.

| Service | Usage to forecast | What can change the estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Workers | Requests and CPU milliseconds | Requests served from cache, cache misses or bypasses, and CPU time per execution |
| D1 | Rows read, rows written and stored GB | Query scan volume, inserts, validation, index creation and retention |
| R2 | GB-months, Class A operations and Class B operations | Storage retention, access pattern, storage class and retrieval volume for Infrequent Access |
| Pipelines | Input volume, transformed volume and sink output volume | Transformation ratio, retries, sink format and uncompressed delivered volume |
| Other selected products | The product’s own billable metric | Configuration and usage in the architecture |
Separate steady-state usage from migration-period activity. If the estimate covers a month in which you backfill data, create indexes, validate tables, retry transfers or run compaction, include that work in the relevant metrics.
Measure usage before forecasting it
- Use source-system telemetry for expected request rates, read/write patterns, retention and transfer volume.
- Run a representative pilot where practical. Measure the workload you plan to migrate, including validation and retry behavior.
- For D1, inspect query metadata such as
rows_readandrows_written.rows_readreflects scanned rows, not merely the rows returned after a filter. - Use Worker measurements and product dashboards or APIs to replace assumptions with observed values.
- Keep measured values distinct from forecasts so reviewers can see which assumptions still carry uncertainty.
D1 usage includes queries used to load data into a new database, full scans and index creation. Row size does not change the row count. Indexes may reduce reads, but changing indexed values adds writes. Measure the migration and validation pass instead of treating it as automatically free or outside the billable month.

Apply the rates and allowances for each service
For each billable metric, calculate forecast usage minus the allowance that actually applies to your plan and billing period. Price only the excess at the relevant rate, then add fixed plan minimums and charges from connected metered services. The public USD figures below were verified in Cloudflare documentation on the dates shown; they are not an account quote. Recheck current pricing before approval, and use contract terms for Enterprise accounts.
| Service and plan basis | Included usage | Public excess rate or charge | Billing detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workers Standard on Workers Paid | 10 million requests/month and 30 million CPU milliseconds/month | $0.30 per additional million requests; $0.02 per additional million CPU milliseconds | $5 monthly minimum per account. Cloudflare’s 2026-10-02 pricing example: 15 million monthly requests at 7 ms average CPU totals $8, including the $5 subscription. Workers pricing |
| D1 on Workers Paid | 25 billion rows read/month, 50 million rows written/month and 5 GB storage | $0.001 per excess million rows read; $1.00 per excess million rows written; $0.75 per GB-month over the included storage | Monthly allowances reset on the subscription renewal date. Cloudflare pricing last updated 2026-04-21. D1 pricing |
| D1 Free | 5 million reads/day, 100,000 writes/day and 5 GB total storage | Not stated for excess use on Free in the cited pricing details | Daily limits reset at 00:00 UTC. Do not confuse these daily caps with Workers Paid’s monthly allowances. Cloudflare pricing last updated 2026-04-21. D1 pricing |
| R2 Standard | Not stated in the cited pricing details | $0.015 per GB-month; $4.50 per million Class A requests; $0.36 per million Class B requests | Cloudflare rounds usage up to the next billing unit. Pricing page accessed 2026-10-03. R2 pricing |
| R2 Infrequent Access | Not stated in the cited pricing details | $0.01 per GB-month; $9.00 per million Class A requests; $0.90 per million Class B requests; $0.01 per GB retrieved | Consider operation and retrieval patterns as well as storage rate. Cloudflare rounds usage up to the next billing unit. Pricing page accessed 2026-10-03. R2 pricing |
| Pipelines on Workers Paid | Stream ingress included; 50 GB/month of SQL transforms and 50 GB/month of sink output | Transforms: $0.04/GB over allowance. Sink output: $0.03/GB for JSON or $0.06/GB for Parquet/Iceberg over allowance | Sink volume is uncompressed data delivered. Cloudflare pricing last updated 2026-08-27. Pipelines pricing |
Workers cache behavior affects only part of the estimate: requests served from Worker cache still count as requests, while CPU time is billed only when the Worker runs on a cache miss or bypass. Cloudflare’s example of 100 million requests, 7 ms average CPU and an 80% cache-hit rate totals $34.20, compared with $45.40 without that cache-hit pattern (2026-10-02). Do not apply the cache reduction to request counts.

Account for R2 and connected-service costs
Direct egress from R2 to the internet—including through the Workers API, S3 API and r2.dev—has no data-transfer charge under Cloudflare’s stated terms. That does not make every R2 operation or connected service free: include storage, operation charges, retrieval where relevant, and any separately metered service in the architecture.
R2 Standard and Infrequent Access have different trade-offs. Infrequent Access has a lower listed storage rate but higher Class A and Class B request rates plus a retrieval fee. Estimate how often data is accessed and retrieved before choosing a class; comparing storage rates alone can misstate the cost.

Worked example: estimating Pipelines overages
Suppose a Workers Paid workload ingests 500 GB in a month, transforms 500 GB and delivers 300 GB to an Iceberg sink. Under Cloudflare’s published example and rates, the transform overage is 450 GB × $0.04 = $18, and the sink overage is 250 GB × $0.06 = $15. The Pipelines charges total $33 for those two meters. This example excludes any R2 storage or operations and R2 Data Catalog charges, where applicable. Cloudflare’s example was published 2026-08-27; see Pipelines pricing.
Turn the estimate into scenarios
Prepare low, expected and high cases when usage is uncertain. Change assumptions that materially affect the meters, rather than applying an arbitrary percentage to the final total.

Show which inputs come from telemetry, which were measured in a pilot and which are forecasts. For a complex architecture or Enterprise account, a Cloudflare migration partner or data-platform consultant may help review assumptions, but any estimate still needs workload-specific measurements and applicable contract terms.
Validate the model during a pilot
- Build the estimate by product and meter, recording plan allowances, billing periods and price-source dates.
- Run representative production-like traffic and migration work, including expected backfills and validation.
- Review product-level usage and daily cost breakdowns in Cloudflare’s dashboard; set budget alerts to flag spend crossing a chosen threshold.
- Compare measured billable usage with forecast assumptions and update low, expected and high scenarios.
- Check pricing and contract terms again before migration sign-off and when rates or effective dates change.
Cloudflare says, “The monthly invoice is the most reliable billing information.” Dashboard views are useful for monitoring a pilot, but use the invoice as the most reliable billing record. See Cloudflare usage-based billing.
One dated change to account for: Workers pricing documentation says Workers Logs will move to Observability pricing beginning 2026-12-01. If your estimate covers that date or later, review the then-current pricing rather than carrying forward an earlier logging assumption. Workers pricing.
