To enable channel memberships, your channel must qualify for YouTube’s monetization features. In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Earn > Memberships, select Get started, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), and set up compliant membership levels and perks. A 24/7 stream has no separate membership switch, and it does not remove the channel eligibility requirements.
Check whether your channel is eligible
YouTube’s current channel-membership guidance lists these feature thresholds: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days. You also need to be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), be at least 18, and live in a location where memberships are available. Check YouTube’s channel-membership eligibility guidance and the Earn page in Studio for your channel’s actual status; meeting a threshold does not guarantee approval.
Feature-specific membership requirements sit alongside YouTube’s broader YPP requirements. The YPP checklist includes following monetization policies, being in a supported country or region, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling 2-Step Verification, having access to advanced features, and linking or creating an AdSense for YouTube account. YouTube reviews channels before accepting them into YPP. See YouTube’s YPP overview for the current checklist and terms. The page flags a planned YPP terms update on February 1, 2027, so check it again if applying after that date.

- Music channels under SRAV are excluded from channel memberships.
- You must accept the CPM to earn membership revenue. YouTube may review your channel, levels, and perks for policy compliance.
Requirements and feature availability can change. For creators in India, confirm the channel’s specific status and any missing requirements in Studio > Earn rather than assuming that eligibility in another country or on another channel applies.
Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel account.
- In the left menu, select Earn, then open Memberships.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen setup. If prompted, review and accept the Commerce Product Module.
- Create membership levels and choose benefits that comply with YouTube’s policies. Supported benefits can include badges, emoji, posts, live chat, members-only live streams, and videos.
- Submit the levels and perks for YouTube’s review. They become available after approval.
If Memberships is missing, YouTube says the tab is shown only when it considers the channel eligible. Check Earn for YPP and feature status, then review the eligibility conditions above and address any policy or account requirements. For a channel managed under a network, the network may need to allow memberships and accept the CPM under Studio Settings > Agreements. How memberships work during a 24/7 stream
YouTube lists memberships among the features available for eligible live streams; running a continuous broadcast does not replace activating memberships on the channel. Once configured, you can offer member-only live streams or member-only chat, subject to YouTube’s settings and policies. When a viewer joins during a live stream, YouTube may show a new-member message in chat and pin the member’s profile image for five minutes.
Member-only chat does not make the broadcast itself private: everyone can still watch the live stream, while only members can post in chat. For a members-only live stream, access to the stream is restricted to members. Choose the format that matches the benefit you promised, and check the stream’s audience and chat settings before going live. Plan a replay for a broadcast longer than 12 hours
Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a 24/7 broadcast as one replay. YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need an archive, make and retain a local recording as a separate backup. This is an archiving consideration, not a requirement for enabling memberships.
