Microsoft Edge has a built-in Microsoft Rewards control. You can switch Rewards experiences on or off for the Edge profile you are currently using without deleting your Microsoft Rewards account or losing its points.
On desktop Edge, open Settings and more (…) and go to Settings → Profiles → Microsoft Rewards. The option is available only when the profile and market meet Microsoft’s requirements.
Enable Microsoft Rewards in Microsoft Edge
Use these steps in the desktop version of Edge:
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more, shown as … in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- In the Settings sidebar, select Profiles.
- Select Microsoft Rewards.
- Turn on Earn Microsoft Rewards in Microsoft Edge.
The setting applies to the Edge profile in which you changed it. Edge profiles keep separate settings and preferences, so enabling Rewards in one profile does not necessarily enable it in another.

Disable Microsoft Rewards in Edge
To stop Rewards experiences from appearing in Edge, use the same menu:
- Select … in Edge.
- Go to Settings → Profiles → Microsoft Rewards.
- Turn off Earn Microsoft Rewards in Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft describes this switch as the control for turning off Rewards experiences and related data sharing in Edge. It can remove Rewards-related displays and notifications from places such as search and the new-tab experience.
Turning off Edge Rewards is not the same as leaving Microsoft Rewards
The Edge switch controls the Rewards experience inside the browser. It does not close your Microsoft Rewards account, cancel your membership, or redeem, transfer, or delete your points.

If you want to leave Microsoft Rewards completely, use Microsoft’s separate Rewards opt-out process. Microsoft warns that opting out immediately forfeits all available points. That warning applies to the account opt-out action—not simply turning off Earn Microsoft Rewards in Microsoft Edge.
What to do if Microsoft Rewards is missing from Edge Settings
If Microsoft Rewards does not appear under Profiles, check the following possibilities:
| Possible cause | What it means |
|---|---|
| The profile is not signed in | The Edge policy documentation refers to qualifying personal Microsoft accounts. A profile using an Azure AD work or school account may not expose the setting. |
| Your market is unsupported | Microsoft says Rewards offers vary by market. The feature or a particular offer may not be available in your country or region. |
| Your organization controls Edge | An administrator can hide Rewards experiences and disable the user-facing setting with the ShowMicrosoftRewards policy. |
| You followed an old guide | Current Microsoft documentation uses Settings → Profiles → Microsoft Rewards. Older instructions may refer to a section called Your profile. |
| You are using Edge on a phone | Microsoft’s documented Rewards privacy setting focuses on desktop Edge. The related administrative policy supports Windows and macOS Edge, not Android or iOS. |
First confirm that you are changing the intended profile. Select the profile icon in Edge and switch to the profile signed in with your personal Microsoft account. Then reopen Settings → Profiles.

Control Microsoft Rewards across an organization
Administrators can control the Edge Rewards experience with the ShowMicrosoftRewards policy. This is useful when a company does not want Rewards displays, notifications, or related browser experiences available on managed devices.
Group Policy
In the Microsoft Edge administrative template, the policy is named Show Microsoft Rewards experiences.
- Mandatory policy path:
Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge - Recommended policy path:
Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge - Default Settings (users can override) - ADMX file:
MSEdge.admx - Data type: Boolean
Set the policy to Disabled to hide the Rewards experience and switch the Edge Rewards setting off. Set it to Enabled to make the experience available for qualifying users.

ShowMicrosoftRewards
- Type:
REG_DWORD - Disabled value:
0x00000000
The policy path is relative to the policy hive. Microsoft does not specify one universal HKLM or HKCU command for every deployment. Choose the machine or user hive according to how your organization manages Edge policies rather than copying a registry command intended for a different deployment model.
macOS
On macOS, use the preference key:
ShowMicrosoftRewards
The documented disabled value is:
<false/>
Policy limitations and restart requirement
The ShowMicrosoftRewards policy supports Windows and macOS versions of Edge 88 and later. It is not supported on Android or iOS.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Changes are not applied through dynamic policy refresh. Restart Edge after changing the policy. Also remember that the policy is evaluated per profile and is intended for a profile signed in with a Microsoft account; testing it with a different account type can produce misleading results.

|---|---|
| Enabled | Qualifying Microsoft account users can see Rewards experiences in supported search, new-tab, and earning areas. The Edge Rewards setting is enabled and on. |
| Disabled | Rewards experiences are hidden, and the Edge Rewards setting is disabled and off. |
| Not configured | The documented default makes the experience available and the setting on, subject to account and market eligibility. |
Common mistakes
- Looking for a Microsoft Rewards extension: the current control is built into Edge. Microsoft’s current instructions use Settings → Profiles → Microsoft Rewards, not an extension-management page.
- Assuming the browser switch deletes your account: it only disables Rewards experiences in Edge. Use the separate opt-out process if you intend to leave the program.
- Expecting points to disappear when the switch is turned off: the documented point-loss warning applies to opting out of Microsoft Rewards, not to disabling the Edge experience.
- Expecting a policy change immediately: close and restart Edge because
ShowMicrosoftRewardsdoes not support dynamic policy refresh.

FAQ
Where is the Microsoft Rewards setting in Edge?
In desktop Edge, select … → Settings → Profiles → Microsoft Rewards. Turn on or off Earn Microsoft Rewards in Microsoft Edge.
Does disabling Microsoft Rewards in Edge delete my points?
No. Turning off the Edge setting disables Rewards experiences in that browser profile. It is separate from opting out of Microsoft Rewards, which Microsoft says immediately forfeits available points.
Why can’t I see Microsoft Rewards in Edge Settings?
The profile may not be signed in with a qualifying personal Microsoft account, Rewards may not be available in your market, an organization may have hidden the feature, or you may be using a mobile version of Edge.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I disable Microsoft Rewards for all company computers?
Yes. Administrators can use the ShowMicrosoftRewards Edge policy. Set it to disabled through Group Policy, Windows policy registry settings, or the corresponding macOS preference, then restart Edge.
Does the Edge Rewards switch opt me out of the Rewards program?
No. It controls Rewards experiences in Edge only. To leave the program, use Microsoft’s separate Rewards opt-out page and review its warning about losing available points.
The Bottom Line
For a personal desktop profile, use Settings → Profiles → Microsoft Rewards and switch Earn Microsoft Rewards in Microsoft Edge on or off. The change affects Edge’s Rewards features, not your Microsoft Rewards membership. For managed installations, use ShowMicrosoftRewards and restart Edge after changing the policy.
